Chapter 10 Good advice and heartfelt conversations
Jiang Ning was writing with ink, watching Liu Mingan write on the letter paper:
"Dear Brother He Pingtai: I am writing to you at your mother's request, and I want to inform you that you must return home on the 15th of this month..."
Liu Mingan wrote in a very neat and elegant small regular script. Jiang Ning admired the strokes of his pen and felt that this handwriting could be used as a calligraphy model.
Unfortunately, Jiang Ning hadn't seen enough. Liu Mingan explained the matter in a few words, put down his pen and picked up the letter paper, blew on the last few words that were not yet dry, waited until the words were completely dry, folded the paper in half, and put it into the envelope that had been prepared.
Liu Ming'an picked up the pen again and wrote "To He Ping from Fusheng Restaurant" on the envelope, then stood up and walked out.
Jiang Ning also stood up and looked through the window at the girl who should be called He Yiyi. She was tapping a small stone on the ground with her feet out of boredom. When she heard the sound of the door opening, she immediately looked up at Liu Ming'an who was walking towards her, her eyes seemed to be shining.
"Brother Ming'an! Have you finished writing?"
Liu Ming'an handed her the letter: "Take it."
He Yiyi took it happily, glanced at it casually, and put it in her arms, then handed the basket in her arm to Liu Ming'an and said: "Thank you, Brother Ming'an, this is what my mother asked me to give you."
Liu Ming'an took the basket, which contained several fresh big eggs. He carried the basket into the kitchen, put the eggs in there, and then returned the empty basket to He Yiyi, just like he had done many times before.
Liu Mingan had been writing letters for their family over the years, and He Yiyi's mother would always give him something as a reward. At first, Liu Mingan thought that they were just fellow villagers, and he was too embarrassed to accept such a small favor, but it ended up making her mother think that he was being attentive to He Yiyi on purpose. After Liu Mingan knew this, he didn't know whether to laugh or cry, and he never refused anything her mother gave him afterwards.
"Thank my second aunt for me." Usually, when Liu Mingan said this, he meant to send the guest away.
But He Yiyi hesitated with the basket in her hand, looking into the house from time to time, and it was obvious that she had something else to say.
Liu Ming'an waited patiently, and after a while he heard her stammering and asking, "Brother Ming'an, that girl, how is she...how is she now?"
"Pretty well." Liu Ming'an replied with a smile.
"She can't take care of herself, so are you the one who takes care of her?"
"I've also asked my third uncle's wife to help."
"Brother Ming'an, she has broken her arms and legs, so don't you have to feed her, give her water, and take her to the toilet and wash? There is only one bed in your house, and I know that you are a person who will definitely not sleep with her, but single men and women are bound to gossip, and you don't know that some people in the village say very bad things..."
He talked a lot of nonsense, but it turned out that he had other intentions. Jiang Ning heard every word clearly, and she could also see the friendship in the girl's eyes. She estimated that He Yiyi also hoped that Liu Ming'an would throw away this hot potato. After
He Yiyi finished speaking, she was a little uneasy. She knew that these words were over the line, but she couldn't help but say it, so she pinched the corner of her clothes and waited for Liu Ming'an's reaction.
Liu Ming'an had a smile on his face all the time. He didn't comment, but just said, "Yiyi, you should go home and don't delay the delivery of the letter."
Liu Ming'an ignored her words. He Yiyi's mood was obviously a little depressed. She muttered, "I'm doing this for your own good," turned around and quickly left the yard.
When Liu Ming'an returned to the house, Jiang Ning was sitting at the table grinding ink as before, and it seemed that she had never stood up.
It's better this way, so as not to hear those words from He Yiyi and add to her troubles. Liu Ming'an thought so.
"Is there a messenger in this village?" Liu Ming'an just sat down when he heard Jiang Ning ask this question.
"Yes, many young people in the village go to the town to work, and if they want to send messages or things to their families, they have to ask the courier. The courier comes every five days, and today happens to be the day he comes to the village."
Jiang Ning asked out of curiosity, and after Liu Mingan finished speaking, she felt that this model was actually quite similar to the modern logistics industry. There was no car freight, no mobile phone communication, only human turnover, which was the limitation of the times.
"The days used to be slower, cars, horses, and mail were slower, and there was only enough time to love one person in a lifetime."
This popular modern poem suddenly emerged in Jiang Ning's mind.
"Jiang Ning, can I ask you a few questions?" Liu Mingan looked at Jiang Ning who was thinking, and suddenly asked. Jiang
Ning's long eyelashes fluttered like crow feathers, raised her eyes and looked into Liu Mingan's eyes.
"Ask." She said.
"You can read, right?"
"Yes." In her previous life, when she had no missions, she stayed alone in the house, reading books, watching TV series, practicing calligraphy, and enjoying the rare tranquility in her bloody life.
Seeing her admit it, Liu Mingan asked, "Do you really not remember the past?"
Jiang Ning's eyes flickered slightly. Liu Mingan was doubting her. But it was true. Her words sounded full of loopholes. If you think about it a little, you will know that it is unreasonable. Although this scholar is kind-hearted, he is not a fool.
"Will a person with amnesia remember his own name?" Seeing that she remained silent, Liu Ming'an continued, "The speed at which your wounds heal is too strange, and your demeanor is also extraordinary. It's hard for me not to think too much."
Jiang Ning looked straight at Liu Ming'an, without avoiding her gaze, and asked, "What do you think?"
Liu Ming'an smiled gently, "Jiang Ning, the first time I saw you at the market, I knew you were definitely not an ordinary person. I took you home out of compassion. I had no intention of doing anything for you, I just wanted to fulfill my kindness."
At this point, Liu Ming'an laughed at himself again, "Maybe I'm being superfluous, you may not need my kindness..."
"No," Jiang Ning interrupted him suddenly, and said solemnly: "You really saved my life."
Liu Ming'an guessed logically: "So, you are staying here now to repay me for this favor?"
He was a commoner with nothing at home, and a beautiful and intelligent woman like Jiang Ning was willing to stay in his house. "Repaying a favor" was the most reasonable explanation Liu Ming'an could think of.
"Not entirely." Jiang Ning said lightly: "I didn't lie to you. I really forgot the past. I only remember that my name is Jiang Ning. I don't know who I am, I don't know if I have a family, where my home is, I don't know why I was injured and was sold as a commodity, I don't know anything. You are the only person I know in my memory, so I want to stay with you."
"Jiang Ning..." Liu Ming'an called her name, but didn't know what to say.
It was hard for him to tell whether Jiang Ning was telling the truth or not, but what was certain was that the person in front of him really wanted to stay. Forget it, if you want to stay, then stay. It's just one more person to eat with.
After figuring this out, Liu Mingan showed a relieved smile on his face and said to Jiang Ning: "Then you can stay."
