Chapter 5 Doctors Check on the Injury, Blood Lotus Space
In the afternoon, Liu Mingan indeed found a man in his fifties with a goatee to come to her bedside to see her. The man took her pulse, stared at her face for a long time, then lifted the quilt, rolled up her sleeves and legs, and carefully examined her injuries. In the end, he sighed deeply.
"Uncle Sun, what's wrong?" Liu Mingan asked.
Doctor Sun sighed again, and then said: "Her face was burned with a red-hot iron, and the skin and flesh are torn. No matter how it is treated, two large scars will be left. And her hands and feet were broken abruptly. Even if I reconnect them, they can't be restored to their original state. She can't lift heavy objects with her hands in the future, and her feet will be lame."
Liu Mingan heard this, and sympathy appeared on his face. With a bit of pity, he looked at Jiang Ning on the bed, but found that her eyes were calm and there was no expression on her face, as if it had nothing to do with her.
Jiang Ning heard every word of Doctor Sun clearly, but for her, this result was already very good. She killed all her life, died without a complete body, and lived again. She just wanted to spend every day in peace and freedom.
"Uncle Sun, please do your best to treat him." Jiang Ning heard Liu Ming'an say.
Doctor Sun wiped his beard and nodded in agreement.
An hour later, Jiang Ning's hands and feet were splinted and fixed with cloth strips, like a mummy. Ointment was also applied on his face. Although it looked like a black mass of mud, it felt cool and comfortable on his face.
Jiang Ning watched Liu Ming'an take out a small piece of silver from the cabinet and stuffed it into Doctor Sun. Doctor Sun left a few packets of medicine, explained in detail how to decoct the medicine and how to take care of the patient, and said that he would come back to see in ten days, and then left with the medicine box on his back.
Liu Ming'an saw him out the door and said, "Uncle Sun, take care."
After Liu Ming'an returned to the house, he took a packet of medicine and turned into the kitchen. Jiang Ning heard the sound of the fire. Half an hour later, she saw Liu Ming'an carrying a bowl of black medicine soup. She could smell the bitter smell of Chinese medicine from a distance.
"Miss Jiang Ning, Uncle Sun said that this medicine can make your wound heal faster. Drink it while it's hot. Come on."
Liu Ming'an said, scooped a spoonful of medicine, blew it, and put it to Jiang Ning's lips.
Jiang Ning smelled the strong smell of medicine and couldn't help holding her breath. She persuaded herself that "good medicine tastes bitter", "the situation forced us", "this was the only way in ancient times", and then she made up her mind and opened her mouth to swallow the spoonful of medicine.
The next moment, Liu Ming'an watched with indifference. The girl who didn't even move her eyelids with the splint on her bones frowned tightly, and her eyes were filled with tears in an instant.
"What's wrong? Did you get burned?" Liu Ming'an was a little flustered, holding the medicine bowl at a loss. He had clearly blown it to cool it down, right?
Jiang Ning bit her lip and shook her head. She couldn't speak, for she was afraid that she would vomit as soon as she opened her mouth. She could feel that she had been forced to shed physiological tears, but she really couldn't control it. She had lived for twenty years and had never drunk Chinese medicine, and had no idea that this thing could be so bitter.
If it wasn't burned, then it could only be because it was bitter. Liu Ming'an put down the medicine bowl, feeling a little worried.
Jiang Ning tried her best to suppress the feeling of vomiting, and said: "Don't feed me one spoonful at a time, help me up, and I will drink it directly."
A short pain is better than a long pain.
Liu Mingan did as he was told, let Jiang Ning lean against the wall, and put the bowl to her lips. After watching Jiang Ning close her eyes and drink the whole bowl of medicine in one breath, tears wet her eyelashes, and she immediately went to the kitchen to bring a bowl of water: "Get rid of the bitter taste." After Jiang Ning finished drinking the water, he helped her lie down again.
Liu Mingan said, "I'll cook", turned and went into the kitchen. After a while of busy work, he brought out another bowl of vegetable porridge.
After Jiang Ning was reborn, she ate four meals, all of which were vegetable porridge. She felt that her face was about to turn green.
"Do you like to drink porridge?" Jiang Ning finally couldn't help asking this question. She was not picky about food, but she was really curious about how someone could eat this bitter vegetable porridge all the time. Would Liu Mingan really not be malnourished?
Liu Mingan probably understood what she meant, and smiled at her rather embarrassedly, saying, "My cooking skills are not very good. This porridge is simple and time-saving. Miss Jiang Ning, do you want to eat something else?"
How can you be so shameless as to ask for this and that when you are living under someone else's roof? Jiang Ning said lightly, "No, you think too much."
After saying that, she seemed to feel a little stiff. Jiang Ning hesitated for a moment, and added, "My cooking skills are pretty good."
Liu Mingan smiled and did not respond, and fed the porridge to her mouth.
I don't know if it was because the medicine was too bitter, Jiang Ning felt that this porridge was not as bitter as she remembered.
After both of them finished their meal, Liu Ming'an took out his pen, ink, paper, inkstone and book and began to read and write, just like he did yesterday. The faint oil lamp emitted a warm yellow light. Jiang Ning looked at his serious profile and felt that if he were born in modern times, he would definitely be admitted to a prestigious university and become a high-spirited college student.
At the end of the hour of Hai, Liu Ming'an rubbed his aching shoulders and neck, put away his pen and paper, threw his clothes over himself, and blew out the oil lamp. The two were in the same room, one lying on the table and the other lying on the bed, falling into sleep.
But Jiang Ning opened her eyes at some point.
What she saw was a bamboo raft roof, and she knew she was back in that dream again. The
splints and straps on her hands and feet and the ointment on her cheeks disappeared, and Jiang Ning recovered into a completely healthy person in this bamboo house.
Jiang Ning got up from the bamboo bed and looked around the room aimlessly. The area was not large, about ten square meters. There was nothing in the room except the bed she was lying on. As far as the eye could see, the bed, door, windows, and walls were all made of bamboo. The bamboo was yellowed and looked quite old.
Jiang Ning had never seen such a room before, and didn't know why she had dreamed of it for two consecutive nights.
The windows in the room were closed, and the door was open with a palm-sized crack. Jiang Ning seemed to see a red light outside the house through the crack.
What was that?
With such doubts, Jiang Ning pushed open the door, but was shocked by the scene in front of her the next moment and was speechless.
Outside the bamboo house, there was no wind or cloud, no sun or moon, and the ground was covered with gravel, and not even a blade of grass could be seen.
This was all normal. What was weird was the sky!
Or rather, it wasn't the sky at all, but a barrier similar to a barrier.
Jiang Ning looked at the slowly surging airflow not far away, connecting from the ground all the way to the sky, like an inverted bowl, covering the bamboo house on all sides. Outside the barrier, it was gray and nothing could be seen clearly.
What really surprised Jiang Ning was the enchanting red lotus flowers on the airflow barrier. Those lotus flowers were distributed everywhere, seemingly tangible, but invisible upon closer inspection, without roots, stems, or leaves, as if they grew out of thin air, blending into the airflow, emitting a bloody light, and shrouding the world in a faint red light.
Jiang Ning was sure that this was definitely not her dream, because she had seen these bloody lotus flowers before!
