Chapter 108 (1): Thank you, class monitor.

Chapter 108 (1): Thank you, class monitor.

A black luxury car was parked on the side of the road about 500 meters away from No. 1 Middle School.

"I'll park my car here and wait for you to come over after school."

"Uncle Wang, you don't need to pick me up tonight. I'll just take the bus home."

Before the driver could say anything more, Liang Huaixu said firmly, "I'll talk to my parents."

The driver sighed, "Okay, then feel free to call me anytime if you need anything."

Liang Huaixu nodded, got out of the car, and walked towards the No. 1 Middle School.

No. 1 Middle School and No. 8 Middle School are adjacent to each other, separated by a main road. When he passed by No. 8 Middle School, he glanced inside.

A group of boys were playing ball casually on the playground, while students passing by strolled by at a leisurely pace.

He was once one of them.

He was found by his biological parents during the summer vacation after his first year of high school, and they arranged for him to transfer to No. 1 High School.

As he approached the vicinity of the senior high school building, he saw several girls walking towards him with bright smiles. The most eye-catching one was the girl with a high ponytail, and several boys nearby were secretly watching her.

She was talking to a friend, but when she saw him, her smile widened, and she jogged over.

Liang Huaixu's heart skipped a beat. Just as he was about to speak, he saw the girl brush past him and run behind him.

"You're so slow! Didn't we have a competition to see who gets to school first today?"

Yu Heng smiled and took out several brown paper bags from behind his back. "Go buy your favorite paper-wrapped cheese shumai."

"That's more like it," Zhuang Fuyao snorted.

The girl next to me asked, "Do you have any for us?"

"Yes, we have them all. They were all bought according to the tastes of the young ladies."

They joked, "Then we're just benefiting from Fufu's success."

Liang Huaixu's back stiffened, his gaze unsure where to land, finally settling on a tree not far away. The young man's eyes were slightly lowered.

This was their first meeting after Zhuang Fuyao rescued him from the group of thugs.

But she didn't recognize him.

-

Liang Huaixu went to report to his class somewhat dejectedly.

He had just transferred to Zhuang Fuyao's class. After distributing the new semester's books, the teacher introduced him to the other students.

He noticed that Zhuang Fuyao seemed somewhat surprised, assuming she would come to say hello after class.

But it didn't happen.

They were like classmates who had just met; she would only nod politely to him when they met on the street.

Zhuang Fuyao was a popular figure at school. She was beautiful and outgoing, and boys from other classes would often secretly watch her in the corridor. Her desk was often stuffed with anonymous love letters and snacks.

Liang Huaixu also learned that she was an art student who took academic classes in a science class and only took art classes with the music and art students.

The boy she was close to on the first day of school was also a student in the music and art class, named Yu Heng.

Liang Huaixu wanted to talk to her many times, but he didn't know what to say. He just watched her silently and would subconsciously look for her whenever he entered the classroom.

She didn't seem to care much about her studies; he often saw her sleeping in class, but she would immediately perk up as soon as the bell rang.

During the long break, she would invariably go to the school store to buy a bunch of snacks. She was very generous and often shared them with her classmates. He had also received her kindness once.

One day, two camel milk shells were suddenly placed on the table. He looked up and saw her smiling and asking, "Want some?"

He could almost hear his own heart pounding like a drum.

"Eat." He snapped out of his reverie and put the camel milk shell into his pocket.

He ate one, and left the other in his school uniform pocket. Every day when he went back to change his school uniform, he would take out the camel milk shell and put it in the pocket of his other school uniform.

Before he knew it, it was time for the monthly exam, and he came in first place in his grade.

This was beyond the expectations of the homeroom teacher, Ms. Song. She knew that the new transfer student in the class was a student with excellent grades, but she did not expect him to be this good.

Suddenly, Liang Huaixu, who was tall, thin, handsome, and academically excellent, became a hot commodity in the eyes of the teachers and was selected as the class monitor for the new semester.

After the flag-raising ceremony on Monday, he gradually began to appear during his speeches.

As Zhuang Fuyao was dozing off, Cheng Beibei nudged her shoulder. She turned around and asked, "What?"

"Don't you think our class monitor is pretty handsome?"

Zhuang Fuyao looked behind her. "Where?"

Cheng Beibei: "..."

Zhuang Fuyao then realized that the person giving the speech on stage was Liang Huaixu. His voice was quite pleasant, but reading this kind of speech sounded like chanting a sutra.

She wasn't particularly fond of these good students, and shrugged, "They're alright."

She was preoccupied with something else.

As expected, I ranked fifth from the bottom in the class in this monthly exam. After the results came out, I was severely criticized by Ms. Ji.

They also enrolled her in evening self-study sessions, and she had to study at school until 10 p.m. every day after school before she would leave.

-

One day after school, she and Cheng Beibei sneaked out of the school to eat at a newly opened firewood chicken restaurant nearby.

To my surprise, this new restaurant was incredibly slow at serving food. I asked them many times, but it still took forty minutes for the food to arrive.

They wolfed down their food, quickly finished, and immediately ran back to school.

But it was too late; they blocked the spot where Lao Wang was blocking people.

Old Wang is the dean of students in the second year of high school. Every night, he goes to each class to check on their evening self-study sessions and also sets up a timer in front of the teaching building to wait for students.

In the minds of the students at No. 1 Middle School, this was like a living Yama, someone who would call their parents if caught.

"Oh no!" Cheng Beibei was extremely anxious. Her parents were both in her hometown, and her aunt and uncle were at work and didn't have time to come over. If her parents were called in, she would definitely get a severe scolding from them.

"What's there to be afraid of?" Zhuang Fuyao pulled her school uniform jacket up and put it over her head. Cheng Beibei copied her and put it on as well.

The two bypassed Lao Wang, holding hands as they rushed to the back door of the teaching building. Lao Wang's angry roar echoed behind them, "Stop! Which class are you from!"

They stopped just before they reached the back door.

Those guarding the back door are often members of the student council or the top students that the teachers are most satisfied with.

Zhuang Fuyao was not familiar with these good students at all.

But since they were students, they could always find a way to get by and fool them.

The breath they had just breathed a sigh of relief was lifted again the moment they saw Liang Huaixu.

Liang Huaixu was a favorite of the teachers, known for his impartiality. Even classmates caught by him would be handed over to the teachers, and he had a strong presence despite his young age.

Most people would avoid it if they could.

Cheng Beibei had already given up halfway on the idea, saying, "Maybe we should just forget about it."

"No, I'll try."

Zhuang Fuyao thought that she was someone who had saved him in the alley, so she couldn't possibly be so unreasonable.

She stepped forward, wanting to have a proper negotiation with the person.

Before she could get there, Liang Huaixu turned and left, heading to the men's restroom next to the corridor.

Zhuang Fuyao: "?"

Cheng Beibei also found it amazing. After returning to class, she passed Fufu a note: "Does the class monitor like you?"

Zhuang Fuyao didn't think that way. She believed it was because of her standing up for Liang Huaixu in the alley last time, something Cheng Beibei didn't know, which led to the misunderstanding. After the first evening self-study session, she and Cheng Beibei went to the convenience store and bought some snacks for Liang Huaixu as a way of thanking him.

Yu Heng also went to the convenience store with his classmates. After seeing Zhuang Fuyao, he stuck to her side, but he was acting a little strange today.

Zhuang Fuyao noticed something was wrong. "What's wrong with you today?"

Yu Heng hesitated, then smiled and shook his head.

He had been preparing himself all the way, and only when they were almost at the teaching building did he muster up the courage to say, "There's something I need to tell you."

Under Cheng Beibei's gossipy and curious gaze, the two went to the corner of the stairs, where Yu Heng tore open a bag of candy for her. "I might have to go abroad."

Zhuang Fuyao thought he was joking and laughed beside him.

Yu Heng took a deep breath. "I'm serious."

Zhuang Fuyao then became serious, "Why so suddenly?"

Yu Heng: "My family is planning to immigrate, so I might have to..."

The class bell rang halfway through our conversation.

But since they were both habitual truants, they ignored this and continued talking.

In the classroom, Liang Huaixu noticed that Zhuang Fuyao was not in her seat. At first, he didn't think much of it and buried himself in his test paper until he heard the students behind him chatting.

When the teacher isn't around, some people always whisper among themselves.

The students at the table behind him were saying, "I saw Zhuang Fuyao and Yu Heng in the stairwell. Are they together?"

"No, I don't think so. I feel like they're just having a lot of fun."

"I still feel like one of them is secretly in love with the other, but you have to admit, they really are a good match..."

Liang Huaixu put down his pen and said in a deep voice, "Study hard and don't talk."

The students behind him fell silent, looking resentful.

Students at No. 1 High School tend to admire academic performance to some extent, so someone like Liang Huaixu, who is both academically excellent and impartial, can keep them in check. They all listen to their class monitor quite well.

Liang Huaixu waited a while longer, and seeing that the person had not returned, he went outside to take a look, coughed twice, and reminded the two people in the stairwell.

Zhuang Fuyao and Yu Heng thought it was their teacher, and their expressions changed. When they saw that it was Liang Huaixu, a subtle emotion flashed through Zhuang Fuyao's mind.

Liang Huaixu said without changing his expression, "I just saw people from the Discipline Department coming this way."

Yu Heng said reluctantly, "Then I'll be going now."

"Mmm," Zhuang Fuyao responded softly. Still somewhat immersed in her recent low mood, she enjoyed playing with Yu Heng and a hint of other feelings were beginning to take root and sprout within her.

That's why I'm so reluctant to part with it.

After Yu Heng left, a gentle night breeze blew. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at the boy next to her who was much taller than her. "Thank you, class monitor."

"What are you thanking me for?"

"Before evening self-study this morning..."

Liang Huaixu seemed to have just realized what was happening, and said in a calm voice, "I simply didn't see you. If I had, I wouldn't have gone to the restroom."
