The opportunity hasn't yet come to Qin Yan and her, because Xu Lianyue treated them to dinner first, and then it was Yu Zhi's turn. In short, Yun Nuan isn't in the running yet.
The next day was an open class, and Qin Shu saved her a seat—a perfect spot in the middle. As the only students in the archaeology department, they relied on each other for support, with Qin Shu usually acting as the go-between.
Although Yun Nuan is his senior sister and they are in the same grade, it doesn't stop him from respecting her. He will help her with anything she doesn't know or understand.
He fantasized that he was the junior brother in that fantasy drama, protecting his best senior sister! It didn't matter that his senior sister was frail and sickly; he would do all the heavy and tiring work for her!
Yun Nuan had no idea what was going on in his delusional mind. She assumed that all the senior and junior students in every major interacted this way, and she accepted it without question. However, she would occasionally feed him.
Qin Shu loved Aunt Lan's pastries and her ridiculously expensive tea. Yun Nuan would send him some from time to time, which made him even more devoted to her.
Before class even started, the middle seats in the classroom were almost all taken, and the people who kept coming in were taking over the back rows.
There was another seat next to Yun Nuan. Everyone usually sat in twos and threes when they came to class. She took out her textbook and prepared to look at the lesson she was going to have.
Just as I turned the page, a gentle male voice came from beside me.
"Excuse me, is this seat taken?"
Yun Nuan shook her head and replied
"No."
He chuckled softly and then asked, "You don't mind if I sit here, do you?"
Yun Nuan didn't understand. This wasn't her seat, and during the previous open class, everyone sat next to her casually without asking for her opinion.
She nodded and didn't say anything more, focusing on flipping through the book. Qin Shu, who was standing next to her, looked over curiously and saw a boy in a white shirt sitting next to his senior sister.
The boy was a math major from Jingzhou. Qin Shu knew him because they went to the same high school. At the beginning of the semester, the forum discussed him, saying he didn't seem like a math major, but rather a Chinese literature major; he looked too refined and cultured.
Many people behind him started whispering, mostly discussing why the math department's male god was giving this open class.
Hearing the increasingly heated discussion behind her, Yun Nuan curiously peeked around, but finding nothing amiss, she leaned in and asked Qin Shu.
"Who are they talking about? Who's a refined gentleman? So gentle and polite, who is he? Who is he?" Her voice was neither too loud nor too soft, just loud enough for the people on both sides to hear.
Qin Shu was now like that guy who whispered to his friend, "There's a girl wearing black stockings over there," while his brother shouted as he looked.
Where can I find girls wearing black stockings?
An awkward, silent sound. The girls sitting behind fell silent, covering their faces, their cheeks flushed red; they wished they could disappear into the ground.
Jingzhou, standing to the side, couldn't help but laugh; even his laughter was pleasing to the eye.
"Maybe they're talking about me," he replied. Yun Nuan then realized that someone had been sitting next to her, but she hadn't had a chance to see what they looked like.
Looking up now, he sees a white shirt with hand-stitched bamboo patterns, sitting upright like a bamboo, with his hair gently falling down, a pair of calm phoenix eyes, and a smile on his thin lips. He is indeed as everyone says—elegant.
Yun Nuan glanced at him and looked away. It was impolite to stare at someone so openly, as Qin Yan had said.
Yun Nuan commented casually as she continued reading, her face completely calm. Qin Shu and the girl behind her, however, felt their toes curl in disbelief. What kind of conversation was this?
Jingzhou hadn't expected her to be so straightforward, and now she could even calmly read a book, which only fueled his curiosity.
"Hello, I'm Jingzhou from the Department of Mathematics."
As Jingzhou and Yunnuan introduced themselves, she hesitated for a moment when she saw the outstretched hand, then politely declined. Such a formal introduction wasn't necessary; it would be impolite for her not to introduce herself after being introduced.
"Hello, Yun Nuan, I'm from the Archaeology Department."
Jingzhou was very interested in her. He noticed her in another open class on the first day of school. After making some inquiries, he learned that she was an archaeology major who had taken a year off and was only returning to class this year.
Before Jingzhou could say anything more, the teacher had already entered the classroom. Yun Nuan, who was standing next to him, was clearly not in the mood to chat with him, and everyone was focused on listening to the lesson.
Yun Nuan was very serious; at least her notes were neat and tidy, and she wrote down all the useful points. No one else was writing as diligently as she was, while Qin Shu next to her seemed to be taking notes as if they didn't need to.
Jingzhou raised an eyebrow and glanced at her handwriting. It was very neat and orderly, which was completely inconsistent with her appearance.
Some of her long, straight black hair fell down, obscuring half of her face and blocking Jingzhou's view. Yun Nuan would also get distracted.
Specifically, while the teacher was talking attentively, she just watched, her mind wandering elsewhere, creating the illusion that she was paying attention.
She was thinking that after finishing her afternoon classes, she could have a weekend off. This week of school life had been really fulfilling, and she liked it. She also liked being with Qin Yan.
When get out of class ended, she packed her things and rushed to the school gate to pick up Aunt Lan. Aunt Lan had been preparing ever since she received Qin Yan's message yesterday.
She thought she could ask Qin Shu to hold the book for her and give it to her in the next class. There was no homework to do in this class, so she was happy to relax.
"Yun Nuan, would you like to have dinner together?"
Qin Shu paused in packing his things, looked up at Jing Zhou, and thought to himself, "So that's why this guy is sitting next to my senior sister today. He's got a crush on her!"
Yun Nuan shook her head; "No need, I have my own food."
Qin Shu burst out laughing, but realizing he was laughing too loudly, he silently held it back and lowered his head to pack his textbooks.
After a pause in his speech, he explained, "What I mean is, I'd like to invite you to dinner, is that alright?"
Yun Nuan handed the textbook to Qin Shu, who took it and waited for her to leave the classroom. He knew his senior sister wouldn't agree because Jing Zhou was still too inexperienced compared to Mr. Qin, and had almost no chance of winning.
Yun Nuan: "No need, I really have food to eat. My family brought me food. Thank you for your kindness."
Then he and Qin Shu left the classroom, leaving Jingzhou alone, still pondering the sentence repeatedly. As a mathematics major, he felt completely confused.
"What I meant was that I was inviting you to dinner. What does it have to do with whether you have food or not? Did I not make myself clear?"
