Chapter 4: Giving her fiancé a piece of her own vomit

Qin Yan gripped the wheelchair, stopping himself from finishing his sentence. Then, somewhat awkwardly, he spoke.

"The porridge is ready, have some first."

Yun Nuan was testing the limits of her body. She was certain that she was very, very close to death, perhaps in the next second, perhaps tomorrow.

In short, she can stay here and wait for death to come.

"I'm not eating, you can get out."

Qin Yan was dissatisfied with her attitude. She was still his fiancée in name only, and the doctors and nurses had repeatedly reminded him of this. If she couldn't even do this much, he figured everyone would laugh at him when they went out.

His wheelchair was a state-of-the-art model; it could move on its own with the push of a button. He maneuvered the wheelchair to her.

He noticed her voice was off a while ago; it was dry and hoarse. He guessed she hadn't had any water in a long time.

He poured her a glass of warm water and handed it to her. Yun Nuan didn't even glance at him, as if he were invisible.

"Drink the water."

The air was silent; no one moved. He had been praised by many for his composure, able to negotiate even the most difficult collaborations without batting an eye.

In the business world, he is composed and courteous. But today, facing this woman, there are things he can't suppress.

For example, seeing Yun Nuan's half-dead appearance would always make him a little angry. He would patiently restrain her chin, pinch her cheeks with both hands, force her to open her mouth, and then pour water into her mouth.

Yun Nuan didn't struggle; half of the water spilled onto the blanket, and the other half went down her throat.

Qin Yan only let go of Qin Yan's hand after she drank a glass of water.

"If we cooperate a little, it won't be so troublesome."

The IV drip was finished, and Assistant Wen brought a caregiver. The first thing they did was change the blankets and wipe the floor. Qin Yan couldn't be there to watch over him all the time; he already had difficulty walking, so he asked Assistant Wen to hire a caregiver for him to make things easier.

"Give her the porridge later. If she doesn't drink it, force it down my throat."

He left those words behind, turned his wheelchair around, and left the ward.

After Qin Yan left, only the caregiver remained. The female caregiver appeared to be in her forties, with gentle eyes. When she looked at Yun Nuan, her gentle gaze made Yun Nuan unable to resist glancing at her.

Aunt Lan gave Yun Nuan a kind smile and immediately introduced herself.

"Hello Miss Yun, my surname is Lan, you can call me Aunt Lan. Don't be fooled by how fierce Mr. Qin is, I was specially called here from the old house to take care of you. I cooked this porridge all morning, drink it while it's hot."

She took out a small table, filled a glass of warm water from the water dispenser, and quickly and efficiently arranged everything.

Looking at Yun Nuan's hands covered in needle marks, she couldn't help but feel sorry for her. The back of her hand was covered in a large bruise, with countless needle marks.

“I’ll feed you. Being sick is suffering, so Miss Yun should take good care of herself and get discharged from the hospital as soon as possible. Then we won’t have to suffer like this.”

Yun Nuan just stared at her, a glimmer of light appearing in her empty eyes, but it quickly vanished. She hadn't wanted to eat anything.

But Qin Yan just said that if she doesn't eat, he will use inhuman methods. She can die, but she can't let Qin Yan choke her to death. This person is no gentler than this illness.

Aunt Lan fed her spoonful by spoonful, but she only ate a few bites before she didn't want to eat anymore.

Having not eaten for so long, she actually felt like throwing up as soon as she took a bite, but Aunt Lan looked at her with earnest eyes, and she endured it and ate a few more bites before shaking her head.

Aunt Lan put away the bowls and chopsticks, then comforted her.

"It's alright, as long as you can eat. The doctor also said that you can't eat too much given your condition. I'll talk to Mr. Qin later and ask him to get a thermal container or microwave here, so it'll be convenient if you want to eat later."

Aunt Lan couldn't stay still and cleaned the entire ward thoroughly. After cleaning it from top to bottom, the whole ward looked completely different.

It was getting late, and the ward was a suite, a one-bedroom apartment. But there weren't any extra beds available; the bed for a caregiver wouldn't arrive until tomorrow.

So Aunt Lan stayed next door tonight. After she finished, she filled a thermos with hot water and placed it by her bedside.

"Miss Yun, if you feel unwell, just call me. I'm right next door."

Yun Nuan nodded, and Aunt Lan, with a worried look in her eyes, went out and closed the door behind her.

The windows were tightly closed, and outside was the pure white moonlight, cold and clean, with the wind rustling through the leaves.

After watching Aunt Lan leave, she stepped barefoot onto the ground. The cold floor stimulated her nerves, and she walked a little faster.

She went into the bathroom, knelt down on the toilet, and vomited up everything she had eaten. Her eyes filled with tears, and after vomiting, she slumped back weakly.

My stomach, which had been aching slightly, now feels surprisingly relieved after vomiting.

Her eyes were bloodshot, and she sat on the floor, unwilling to move, the coolness of the floor washing over her body.

She reached out and pressed the flush button. As she stood up to go back, she saw the person sitting in a wheelchair behind her.

She didn't know when he arrived or how long he'd been there. She met his gaze expressionlessly, but after just one glance, she looked away and looked past him.

Qin Yan's face darkened further as he watched her bare feet on the floor, the doctor's angry words seemingly echoing in his ears.

"The patient's body is special and needs to be taken good care of; too hot or too cold is not good."

She was so thin that one hand could easily encircle her ankle, and she walked without making a sound.

Qin Yan wasn't annoyed by her ignoring him. This person had been like this all day, and it was hard to imagine what those pretentious people described in the documents were like.

"I threw up everything I ate tonight?"

He returned to the bedside and asked the person who was sleeping with their head covered, but unsurprisingly, no one answered.

“I’m curious why you have this attitude. Didn’t your stepmother tell you what your purpose was in coming here?”

"Wait to die." She turned to Qin Yan and replied.

Qin Yan was momentarily speechless. The way she said those two words was so serious and genuine.

"Yun Nuan, are you just waiting to die? Are you willing to leave Lin Yu? I heard you two met today. I'm very curious how you managed to drag this body out."

She felt relatively relaxed after vomiting; the pain had subsided, though she felt a little empty. In a fairly good mood, she could offer Qin Yan some answers.

"I already said I'm not the original Yun Nuan. Also, since you can investigate, please investigate thoroughly so I don't have to tell you."

A sharp-tongued, delicate face could hardly be considered a friendly reply.

She stepped barefoot onto the floor once more, and Qin Yan's temples throbbed.

"Go back to bed." His voice rose a little in anger, causing Yun Nuan, who was caught off guard, to jump heavily and almost catch her breath.

She clutched her chest for a moment to catch her breath, then frowned and looked over.

Qin Yan knew he was in the wrong. "Tell me what you want, and now get back to bed," he warned in a low voice.

Yun Nuan was happy to have someone help her and pointed to the insulated box on the table outside, which contained Aunt Lan's heated porridge.

Qin Yan maneuvered his wheelchair over to get it, and then took out a small table for her. After doing all this, he realized that he had been listening to her far too much.

His face darkened even more.
