He forced a smile, offering only half-hearted words of comfort.
"I'm really fine." He urged her to leave, his eyes carrying a hidden warning. Aunt Lan didn't dare to argue with him, but she felt very sad inside.
After Aunt Lan left the ward, Qin Yan's smile faded. He bent down and kissed Yun Nuan's forehead, saying a word after each kiss.
"Baby, it's time to wake up."
"It's already dark, and I'm still waiting for you to have dinner."
"This is the third day. There was no sun this morning, and it's gotten cold." He placed an affectionate kiss on her nose, his voice growing increasingly hoarse.
"Please don't let me lose you, and don't say goodbye to me."
"You're not in my dreams, and I'm so scared. Please wake up and look for me."
The sorrow in his eyes was evident, and his eyes were bloodshot. He hadn't slept all night, and his handsome face looked somewhat disheveled. He still felt that there was a way, there was a way.
His forehead was burning hot, and tears streamed down his face as soon as he closed his eyes. The heat stimulated his nerves, making his head feel heavy. He stubbornly refused to let go of their hands, holding them tightly like that.
"Qin Yan, you're sick." He heard it; the voice was still weak, and his round eyes were filled with tension and worry.
He reached out and pinched her cheek; it felt real, fleshy, not fake. He suddenly laughed, muttering to himself.
"You've finally come to my dream, don't leave this time."
Yun Nuan was awakened by the scalding heat of the body beside her. It's no exaggeration to say that Qin Yan's temperature was alarmingly high. If it was even higher than hers, then he was sick, so she immediately rang the bell to call a doctor.
The doctor rushed over and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw she was awake. He was about to examine her when Yun Nuan refused, pointing to Qin Yan beside her and saying that he was the one who was sick.
The doctor was surprised. After examining Qin Yan carefully, he found that her temperature was still quite high. He quickly tried to lower her temperature, but when that failed, he had to give her an injection.
Suddenly, both of them had IV drips in their left arms in the ward. Aunt Lan was both anxious and nervous. Now that both of them were sick, especially Qin Yan, who was their pillar of support, she couldn't even imagine how Nuan Nuan must be feeling.
After the injection, Qin Yan's temperature dropped, but another symptom became obvious: he had caught a cold. He hadn't slept all night, staying by Yun Nuan's bedside, and unfortunately caught a chill from the cold wind.
"Oh my goodness!" Aunt Lan thought of separating the two patients in separate wards to prevent infection. But Yun Nuan remained surprisingly calm.
She reassured Aunt Lan's bodyguard and Assistant Wen, and smiled, saying that she would take care of Qin Yan and that Aunt Lan and the others could handle the other small matters.
Aunt Lan disagreed. If Qin Yan woke up and found out he had a cold, he would also suggest separating them. Yun Nuan had no choice but to do so.
Yun Nuan was exceptionally insistent on this matter, refusing to budge an inch, and in the end, Aunt Lan had no choice but to give in to her. Yun Nuan was the first to finish her IV drip.
It had been a long time since she'd seen needle marks on the back of her hand; this time, the swelling was a little more pronounced. After applying pressure with cotton and adhesive tape, she got up and moved to Qin Yan's bedside.
The ward had been converted into two single beds. For the past few days, Qin Yan had been sitting on one of the single beds watching over her. Now it was her turn.
Seeing his pale face, she felt a pang of sadness and teased him. "You're clearly tired, but you're still being stubborn."
She got up, went to the bathroom, wet a towel, and then wiped his face and hands. When she met his dark eyes, she smiled.
"Qin Yan, so you can get sick too!"
He retorted with a laugh, exasperated, "You heartless little brat, all you do is make fun of me when I'm sick." His hoarse voice and dry lips made him feel quite uncomfortable.
Yun Nuan poured a glass of warm water and held it to his lips. After he finished drinking it, she put it on the table next to him and then kissed him when no one was looking.
"No way, I'll still take care of you and kiss you."
Qin Yan sat up in fright, her head throbbing. "I have a cold, you can't let me infect you, call Aunt Lan over!"
This time, Yun Nuan forced him to shut up. She bit his lip and looked at him provocatively.
"Go ahead and scream, no one will come even if you scream your lungs out. Everyone here listens to me now. Qin Yan, you're in my hands!" She laughed triumphantly, and just as Qin Yan was about to speak again, she quickly covered his mouth.
"Alright, Mr. Qin, please get some rest now. I will be your caregiver and keep a close eye on you."
The dark circles under his eyes hadn't faded yet. It had only been five hours since he developed a fever, meaning he had probably only rested for about three hours, which was far from enough.
Qin Yan tried to pull her back, but Yun Nuan pressed his hand down, then lowered her head and bit him on the side of his neck, her small canine teeth stimulating his nerves.
He grunted and frowned but didn't push her away, letting her bite him. She used quite a bit of force, and when he got up, the teeth marks were quite deep.
He reached out and touched it, a look of pleasure spreading across his face. He pointed to the spot next to him and said...
"Sweetie, take another bite here."
Yun Nuan frowned. "Qin Yan, I just wanted to tell you that this isn't a dream. Please go to sleep. I'll stay with you and won't go anywhere."
Qin Yan's pupils widened slightly, and a strange light flickered in his peach blossom eyes, which then disappeared after a short while.
"I didn't doubt that I was dreaming, I... I just..." He didn't finish his sentence. Yun Nuan looked at their position, lifted the blanket and hid in his arms, carefully hugging his waist, then looked up and spoke.
"Are you still scared now? I'll stay with you. I'm a little sleepy. When you wake up, can you wake me up too?"
The hand receiving the IV drip was immobilized, and the other hand remained frozen helplessly in the air. After a while, it slowly fell down and embraced her.
Her scent was spreading, a gentle medicinal fragrance lingering around her, eventually settling on him. The sound of his heartbeat proved that this was not a dream, and he finally relaxed.
Yun Nuan didn't catch a cold, probably because she had too many illnesses, which kept even a minor cold at bay. Qin Yan, who was sick, received comprehensive care from Yun Nuan.
She was mimicking how she had cared for her, following her every step of the way, her hand occasionally reaching out tentatively. Warm water, and sometimes soft, warm lips covering her mouth.
These days were both sweet and burdensome for Qin Yan, who worried that Yun Nuan would catch something. Fortunately, after Qin Yan recovered from her cold, Yun Nuan was not infected.
She underwent another examination, and this time Qin Yan could no longer hide it from her.
