Chapter 5, Part 005: We embraced in the most passionate way. ...

The five-year-old girl's head only reached Meng Ran's chest, yet her strength was beyond imagination.

Caught off guard, Meng Ran involuntarily stood up and was pulled out of the room by this force.

She was stunned for a few seconds before she realized what was going on.

Chen Miaoying is trying to drag her to find Chen Sulin!

Not to mention that Meng Ran didn't want to go at all, even if she did, her current outfit was inappropriate.

"Wait a minute!" Meng Ran quickly raised her voice to stop Chen Miaoying, "Don't rush!"

Meng Ran didn't dare to use too much force, for fear of pulling the little girl down.

Fortunately, Chen Miaoying wasn't the kind of child who wouldn't listen to what people were saying. Upon hearing this, she stopped and turned around to ask, "What's wrong, Mom?"

Meng Ran breathed a slight sigh of relief.

Worried that the little girl wouldn't understand the complex reasons, and afraid of hurting her feelings by directly refusing, Meng Ran tried her best to organize her thoughts: "Your father is probably busy with work right now. If you want your father to smell the pomelo, you can wait—"

"No way!" Chen Miaoying interrupted Meng Ran confidently. "Mom, don't worry, Dad is definitely not working at this time!"

Before Meng Ran could ask "why", the sound of a door opening came from not far away.

Following the sound, a tall and slender figure appeared at the door of the master bedroom.

Meng Ran stopped the moment she came to her senses, but since the two bedrooms were adjacent, she was now only a few steps away from him.

Chen Sulin was wearing a dark gray nightgown, her body still damp with moisture, clearly having just taken a shower, just like her.

Slightly damp wisps of hair fell smoothly across his forehead, partially obscuring the sharpness of his eyes and softening his usual gloomy aura.

Perhaps because her daughter was also present, Meng Ran could actually see a hint of tenderness on the face of this man who had just come out of the bath.

However, her previous encounters had made her remember how difficult this man was, and she subconsciously avoided eye contact with him.

Her gaze drifted and somehow landed on the man's chest: the neckline of his cross-collar pajamas extended down his neck, vaguely outlining the firm muscles beneath.

Meng Ran's cheeks suddenly burned.

God knows, although she used to tell Jiang Yuqing that she would hire a few male models to feast her eyes on when she became successful, the impact of seeing this scene with her own eyes was completely different from just talking about it.

In the rush, not knowing where to look, Chen Miaoying's voice rang in my ears: "Dad, Mom and I have come to find you!"

Meng Ran felt like she had been granted a pardon: Luckily, her daughter had distracted Chen Sulin, otherwise the man would have definitely seen her awkwardness of not knowing where to look.

She took a deep breath and silently recited in her heart: "My heart is as still as water, my heart is as still as water!"

While Meng Ran was trying to compose herself, Chen Miaoying said, "Mom just said she was too scared to come!"

Chen Sulin: "Really?"

With that deep voice, the man's gaze fell on her shoulder.

Meng Ran stiffened, then remembered the fact that she had temporarily overlooked due to the visual impact: not only was Chen Sulin wearing pajamas, but she herself was only wearing a thin slip dress.

In terms of the amount of skin exposed, she definitely has the upper hand.

Hearing Chen Miaoying say that, Chen Sulin probably thought she deliberately dressed so scantily to come to him, right?

Meng Ran had maintained a semblance of composure during her conversations with men earlier today, but now she was stammering, "No, I didn't..."

Chen Miaoying kindly explained on behalf of her mother: "Mom was worried that Dad was at work, so she didn't dare to come. Mom didn't know that Dad makes time to be with me every night at this time!"

Meng Ran: "..."

It seemed impossible to explain in front of her daughter, so she simply chose to remain silent.

She simply raised her hand and brushed her hair aside, trying to naturally gather her long, loose hair in front of her body in hopes of covering some of her exposed skin.

She dared not fiddle with it repeatedly—if Chen Sulin noticed that she was deliberately concealing something, it would only make things more awkward.

At this moment, Meng Ran was filled with regret. She should have put on a coat before opening the door for Chen Miaoying. She had underestimated the troublesome nature of living with an adult male.

Chen Miaoying was proud of her wit.

Dad was right. Mom was a little shy on her first day at our house, so she had to try her best to be Mom's spokesperson!

She saw the word "spokesperson" on TV and felt that it suited her perfectly because it sounded impressive and intelligent.

The father and daughter exchanged a few questions and answers, and then Chen Miaoying remembered what she and her mother had come for.

“Dad, move closer to Mom!” Chen Miaoying said. “Mom smells amazing, like a sweet grapefruit! Dad, don’t you love grapefruits the most?”

Meng Ran silently pursed her lips.

It's really bad. It's just a child's innocent remark, but she's an adult who's been poisoned by all sorts of romance novels and TV dramas.

Now, not only her cheeks, but her entire body, from her neck to her chest, felt warmer.

I just hope that Chen Sulin's inner self is as serious as his outward appearance, and that he won't associate the words "eating pomelo" with anything strange.

Seeing that the man's gaze was becoming increasingly intriguing, Meng Ran decided to defend herself: "I just finished showering, so I changed into my nightgown. She was too fast and too strong; I wasn't prepared when she pulled me over."

It's hard to say how convincing her words were to Chen Sulin, but honestly, she was telling the truth: she never expected a five-year-old child to be so strong.

"I'm sorry," Meng Ran said, "I didn't mean to bother you."

Chen Miaoying blinked beside her.

But Dad is clearly free right now, so why does Mom say that she's bothering him?

Chen Miaoying glanced at her father in confusion, then at her mother, and suddenly realized what was going on after noticing that her mother's neck was slightly red.

Oh, Mom must be embarrassed!

Chen Miaoying closed her mouth tightly, deciding not to speak for the time being.

In Chan Miu-ying's view, for two people to improve their relationship, they must talk to each other a lot.

She already has a very good relationship with her father, and she has also talked a lot with her mother today.

But today at the dinner table, she noticed that her father and mother hadn't said a single word to each other!

There really wasn't a single one!

So now she wants to give the opportunity to her father and mother.

Chen Sulin: "I won't bother you. We're husband and wife. You can contact me anytime if you need anything."

Meng Ran twitched the corners of her mouth and gave a dry laugh.

That's what she said, but she didn't dare to really treat him as her husband.

When she was dating Zhao Yanzhou, she would indeed ask him to do all sorts of little things for her from time to time.

Zhao Yanzhou also enjoyed it; it was a source of fun between the two of them.

But if she treats Chen Sulin the same way now, she'll probably go from being "Mrs. Chen" to "abandoned wife of a wealthy family" the very next day.

Despite inwardly complaining, Meng Ran outwardly said, "Okay, I understand."

Chen Sulin: "Is there anything you're not used to when washing up?"

Meng Ran: "No, it's fine."

She paused for a moment, then said, "Who was in charge of arranging my toiletries, skincare products, and clothes in my room? They're all very nicely arranged, and I like them all. I'd like to go and thank them."

Chen Sulin paused for a second: "I'll ask the housekeeper when I have time, and then I'll pass on your message."

Meng Ran: "...Oh, that works too."

Actually, she wanted to express her gratitude in person. These things may seem like small things, but they were a great comfort to her as she entered a new and unfamiliar environment.

However, given her current state, she didn't want to get entangled with Chen Sulin and just wanted to end the conversation as soon as possible.

Chen Miaoying listened from the side and pouted.

Why are Mom and Dad talking about unimportant things?

She had just asked her father to move closer to her mother, but he seemed not to hear her at all and remained far away from her mother.

Even if her father doesn't grant her requests, he will never ignore her.

While neither of them spoke, Chen Miaoying couldn't help but call out, "Dad."

When Chen Sulin looked over, Chen Miaoying said, "Don't you really want to get closer and smell your mother's scent? I never lie, it really smells like a really, really nice grapefruit!"

Meng Ran stood there speechless, choked with emotion.

The topic that had been so easily diverted has come full circle back.

Isn't it said that children's attention is easily distracted?

Meng Ran even suspected that Chen Miaoying was bound to some kind of system, and that the system was issuing a task for Chen Miaoying to matchmake her and Chen Sulin.

After all, even bizarre events like time travel, which only happen in novels, have occurred, so it's not strange that there's a system, right?

While lost in thought, Meng Ran glanced silently at Chen Sulin across from her.

When it comes to raising children, this man is much more experienced than I am, and should know how to handle the current situation.

Chen Sulin looked at his daughter and said patiently, "Daddy doesn't not want to smell it, but Mommy has to be willing."

Meng Ran: "?"

For a split second, she almost couldn't control her expression and wanted to roll her eyes at Chen Sulin.

Is this how an experienced father would handle this? Shifting the blame to the mother?

Sure enough, the little girl looked at her the next second, her face full of anticipation.

Meng Ran: "..."

Today, on our first meeting, Chan Miu-ying's behavior was simply that of an angel.

Without crying or making a fuss, he took the initiative to call her "Mom," showed her around the house, and kept trying to find topics to talk about with her during dinner to get closer to her.

Therefore, Meng Ran felt that refusing such a simple wish, which seemed so simple to a child, would be an unforgivable sin.

After thinking about it, Meng Ran decided to just give her a token amount.

Children's thoughts are not as complicated as adults'. For Chen Miaoying, smelling something was not a transgression; it was probably no different from looking at the color of someone else's clothes.

Although Chen Sulin's temper was a bit eccentric, he seemed to be self-disciplined and not the kind of man who would act recklessly.

Besides, with his daughter around, he'll definitely know what's good for him.

Meng Ran found several reasons in her heart to convince herself, pursed her lips, took a few steps forward, and stood in front of Chen Sulin.

It's slightly closer than normal social distance, but not to the point of being overly intimate.

Upon getting closer, Meng Ran quickly realized that it wasn't just her; the man also had a faint scent of toiletries on him.

The cool, woody tone is like a pine forest in winter.

Despite the extremely cool and aloof scent, Meng Ran suddenly felt a surge of heat, as if she had been embraced by this chilling aura in the most passionate way.

The thought startled her, and her heart began to pound uncontrollably.

Looking up, she met Chen Sulin's unfathomable black eyes, where undercurrents surged.

Meng Ran hurriedly retreated, filled with regret.

She was oversimplifying things. A daughter isn't born from a rock. Even if Chen Sulin is celibate, they must have done everything they were supposed to do back then.

How could she be so unguarded in front of him?

Meng Ran: "I..."

In a panic, he uttered a single word, then didn't know what to say next.

Chen Sulin spoke after her, but looked at Chen Miaoying: "Alright, Dad has already smelled it, it does smell like a very fragrant grapefruit."

Chen Miaoying puffed out her cheeks.

Mom and Dad were so perfunctory; they only got close for a moment, less than a second!

However, she is a sensible child. Since her parents have already given her their way, she won't make things difficult for them!

"Okay." Chen Miaoying nodded reluctantly. "Dad, I'm a little sleepy."

Normally, after finishing her classes each day, she would ask her father to stay with her for a while before washing up and going to bed. Now it's almost time for her to go to sleep.

Chen Sulin said gently, "Then go take a shower first, and Dad will say goodnight to you after you get into bed, okay?"

Chan Miu-ying: "Okay!"

"Mom," Chen Miaoying looked at Meng Ran again, "after I take a nice shower and go to bed, will you come with Dad to say goodnight to me?"

Meng Ran: "..."

It was yet another request that was impossible to refuse.

Meng Ran sighed inwardly and nodded slightly.

This night is far too long.
