Chapter 48. Dust swirled, and the trees on both mountains were layered in green...
Dust filled the air, and the trees on both mountains stood tall and verdant. Someone was walking down the mountain, startling a few forest birds. It was a woodcutter passing by.
The woodcutter must have lived in the neighborhood for a long time. Seeing a young woman sitting alone at the gate of her courtyard, he kindly went up to her and said, "Young lady, what brings you here?"
"Come stay here," Wei Yin replied, pointing to the courtyard.
The woodcutter then realized that this was a member of the Wen family. Seeing that Wei Yin was a frail woman, he quickly advised, "Miss, there haven't been many people living around here in recent years. Wolves often come out, and some children from the foot of the mountain have been taken away. You can't stay here. Go back quickly."
"A pack of wolves?" Wei Yin hadn't expected that.
“That’s right,” the woodcutter said. “If I didn’t keep a few wolfhounds around, I wouldn’t dare to live alone. You should pack your things and go back quickly. The wolves will come out later in the night. This matter should have been reported to the Wen family long ago. Why did you let a young girl like you come out alone?”
Upon hearing the woodcutter's last words, Wei Yin felt a chill run down her spine.
The old patriarch of the Wen family outwardly agreed to Wenxuan's conditions, but secretly sent Jinnian to the jaws of death.
The woodcutter finished speaking and left.
Wei Yin stood at the door and thought, "Since there are wolves in this place, I can't stay here any longer."
She turned around and saw that several maids had gone to the inner room to tidy up, putting away all the things she had brought, and had no time to pay attention to Wei Yin.
Seeing this, Wei Yin considered the way down the mountain. It wasn't far from the foot of the mountain, and she could walk there, but it was still too far from the Wen family. She could only go down first, then see where she could hide, and then try to find a way back to the Wen family to find Lu Hun.
As Wei Yin thought about this, she quickly pulled her fur coat tighter around herself and, taking advantage of the maids' inattention, ran down the mountain in a flash.
When she reached the mountainside, she looked down and realized that this place must have been the desolate state of eighty or ninety years ago. However, after nearly a hundred years, the appearance and terrain of the desolate state were quite different from what they are now. Moreover, it looked relatively normal and was not as arid as the desolate state of today.
Fearing that someone would catch up, Wei Yin dared not look back and continued running forward.
Just as she stepped onto a mountain path, another noise came from ahead, startling birds into cries. Wei Yin didn't think much of it, assuming she might have run into the same woodcutter chopping wood nearby again. But when she looked up again, a familiar young man in a square scarf and blue robe appeared on the mountain path. Two long ribbons, reaching down to his waist, fluttered wildly behind him, tangled in his hair, as the gloomy young man walked step by step.
The boy no longer wore the brocade robes that Wenxuan was used to wearing, but instead put on his original cloth clothes.
His face was paler than ever before, and after taking a few steps he would look extremely weak and breathless, supporting himself on a tree trunk, taking a few deep breaths before continuing to walk.
As darkness fell, the young man seemed to grow impatient. His usually reserved nature was now replaced by a frantic pace as he walked, shouting into the mountains and forests.
"Wei Yin!"
"Sister Wei!"
"I'm here! I'm here!"
Wei Yin was extremely surprised. Without thinking about how he ended up there, she immediately called out his name, lifted her skirt and loose fur coat, and ran towards the young man.
Lu Hun heard her voice from afar and looked up in a daze.
Wei Yin ran so fast that she almost fell into Lu Hun's arms.
Lu Hun was afraid she would fall, so he instinctively opened his mouth and arms so that she could crash right in.
Wei Yin hugged him, still shaken. She was worried that they would come after her and that the wolf would really appear and bite or eat her.
Lu Hun let her hug him to calm his emotions.
"Lu Hun!" Wei Yin exclaimed in surprise, "I've heard there are wolves in the mountains."
Lu Hun's face was slightly lowered, making it difficult to see his expression. After a moment of hesitation, the young man gently placed his hands on her back, slowly comforting her.
"Okay, I understand. I'm not afraid of them."
Wei Yin nodded. Only then did she realize that the boy's body was a little hot. She was taken aback. "Lu Hun, why do you feel a little feverish?"
They are still in Wenxuan's illusion.
Lu Hun has not yet fully recovered his cold ghost form.
The few cups of strong liquor that Wang Mama had fed him to clear his mind remained in his body.
The boy's throat bobbed involuntarily, and his gaze unconsciously lingered on Wei Yin's fair skin beneath her collar. Realizing what he was looking at, he suddenly lowered his eyes and forced them closed to calm his breathing.
And he hadn't yet seen that the buttoned collar was lower down, almost reaching Wei Yin's chest.
There are still red marks left from when he kissed her after untying the knot.
After a long while, Lu Hun opened his eyes. Once he had sensed that Wei Yin's emotions had recovered, he withdrew his hand from Wei Yin's back. He didn't say anything, but simply raised his hand and pulled up Wei Yin's collar. Then, he took a step back without making a sound.
Wei Yin noticed Lu Hun's polite and cautious little movements and was stunned.
She glanced at Lu Hun's clothes.
Even as he stepped back, the long ribbons beneath his scarf, blown by the wind, still tried to tug at her long hair.
Wei Yin smiled with delight, "Lu Hun, have you remembered now?"
Lu Hun lowered his head and obediently hummed in agreement.
"You finally remembered!"
Wei Yin was overjoyed. She finally had a way to get out and wouldn't have to be tormented by Lu Hun, who had turned into Wenxuan, anymore. Thinking of this, her expression became subtle.
I glanced at him once, then glanced at him again.
Lu Hun lowered his head, his eyes not looking at her at all. She couldn't see what his expression was, nor could she tell if he remembered what he had done.
But Lu Hun remained silent and lowered his eyes, just like always.
Wei Yin couldn't see through his thoughts.
She didn't dare mention it, and pretended that none of those things had happened.
Therefore, Wei Yin simply stopped asking whether he and Lü He had slept together, fearing that he might not remember and she would make him remember everything.
If he doesn't remember anything, Wei Yin, being thick-skinned, can pretend that nothing happened.
In this illusion, I kiss him, caress his body, and have him unbutton my collar and kiss me.
He said he wanted her, that he wanted her to be in any position on the bed, and that he wanted to be her man.
Let it all just vanish like smoke, a fleeting dream.
Wei Yin was lost in thought when she came to her senses and suddenly saw the boy in front of her leaning against the tree trunk with a pained expression.
"What's wrong?" She stepped forward to support him.
Lu Hun didn't mention that in order to break free from Wen Xuan's control and avoid touching Lü He, he forcibly burned his own primordial spirit, nor did he mention being forced to drink strong liquor to clear his mind. He only said in a low voice, "After confronting Wen Xuan for a while, I'm a little weak."
Wei Yin knew of Wen Xuan's power.
Lu Hun is very difficult to deal with.
She dared not waste any more time chatting with Lu Hun and asked quickly, "Then what should we do? Where do you want to recuperate?"
“Go back to where you were staying,” Lu Hun said.
"Aren't there wolves? And the men sent by Old Master Wen are keeping an eye on things too..."
"It's alright," Lu Hun said. "I've already regained my ghostly power."
Wei Yin was relieved and helped him walk back. Although Lu Hun was completely exhausted and the strong liquor was consuming him, he was afraid that Wei Yin's strength would not be enough to support him, so he secretly forced himself to walk a little more so as not to tire her out.
The maids in the courtyard had just realized that Wei Yin was missing and were anxiously preparing to go down the mountain to look for her when they saw that Wei Yin had returned. When they saw that the eldest young master had returned with her, they were extremely surprised and wanted to speak.
Lu Hun waved his hand.
A few wisps of black smoke entered the nasal cavities of the maids.
The maids' eyes slowly widened in disbelief.
Lu Hun ordered, "Everyone, go down and do what you're supposed to do."
The maids obeyed and left like dolls.
This was the first time Wei Yin had seen Lu Hun use his power to deceive people.
Lu Hun conjured the Po Jun Sword out of thin air again and instructed it, "Watch the wolves nearby and don't let them get close."
Po Jun didn't listen to the whole thing before he rushed out impatiently.
Wei Yin helped Lu Hun into the room and arranged for him to rest on the bed. Lu Hun's ghost body had been restored to a normal human body by Wen Xuan, so he still needed to eat. She went to the maids and got him some food.
Lu Hun forced himself to eat some food and then lay down on the bed.
Seeing that he was feeling very unwell, Wei Yin felt it was inappropriate to leave and stayed by his bedside.
It's late at night.
Wei Yin felt sleepy. The mountain wind was cold, so she took another quilt and sat down next to Lu Hun to doze off.
The wind outside the window grew stronger.
It hit the window frame.
Knock knock knock.
Wei Yin's breathing became long and even.
She fell asleep.
After an unknown amount of time, Lu Hun, who was beside her, slowly opened his eyes. His eyes were somewhat red, partly due to the burning of his primordial spirit, and partly due to the strong effects of the purifying liquor in his body.
Hearing the woman's breath in his ear, Lu Hun hesitated for a moment, then turned away.
Wei Yin was sleeping with her face turned towards him.
She pressed one hand under her face, seemingly having some unpleasant dream, and gently bit her lip until it turned red.
And her collar had come undone at some point.
Besides her smooth, white neck, there were a few red marks.
Lu Hun stared at the red marks, his gaze growing ever deeper.
He forced his eyes closed.
After waiting for a while, he suddenly sat up, panting heavily.
Startled by him, Wei Yin groggily opened her eyes and instinctively touched his face. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Lu Hun stared at her with his dark, unsettling eyes.
The hand on his face.
It made him feel as if his body was being burned by fire, just like his primordial spirit had been burned before. But the difference was that it wasn't just pain, but also a kind of extreme sourness.
His gaze slid down to her face.
It stuck to her long, slender neck.
By the time he realized what was happening, he had already used magic to blindfold Wei Yin.
He realized he had done something he should never have done.
However, looking at the woman's charming face...
He did not wake her.
Instead, he trembled, his whole body shaking, and he was extremely cautious.
Or subconsciously.
He put his index finger into her mouth.
Wei Yin didn't react, just stared blankly at him.
Lu Hun restrained himself and quickly withdrew his hand.
He can't do that.
How could he do something so impolite without Sister Wei's knowledge?
However, a thrill stirred within me the instant my fingers touched her lips.
And the lingering effects of strong liquor.
He couldn't resist and gently pinched her chin again.
His thumb pressed hard against her lips.
Wei Yin's mouth hurt from his rubbing, and she subconsciously let out a soft "ah".
And it was in that one cry of "Ah" that...
The string that Lu Hun had been holding back for so many years snapped completely.
Lu Hun instantly became breathless, his voice so loud it could be heard almost outside.
He grabbed Wei Yin's two wrists.
He laid her down on the bed.
