Chapter 94, the ending: The room was quiet for a long time...
The room remained quiet for a while. Wei Yin stared at Lu Hun with her eyes wide open, without saying a word. Then, she suddenly laughed out loud, "You young man, how rude! You are Ji Jiayu's friend, and I have never met you before. How could you be my husband? Stop bothering me and go back to rest."
Lu Hun ignored her, clutching Wei Yin's sleeve tightly, his eyes red with grievance, refusing to let go.
Wei Yin glared at him and went to get her sleeves.
Although the boy was thin, he was very strong, and she couldn't wrest him away at all. After such a long stalemate, and with her clothes being thin, Wei Yin, who was still not fully recovered, started coughing violently. Lu Hun then quickly let go, took her hand, and helped her back to the bed.
Lu Hun took off a cloak and draped it over her shoulders.
He squatted on the ground, not daring to hold her hand, but only gently tugged at her sleeve, and looked up to say, "Sister, we are indeed married, I dare not lie to you."
Wei Yin stopped coughing and asked, "You said I married you, so why don't I even remember my own husband?"
Lu Hun was speechless and unable to answer.
"Alright, go back now." Wei Yin pulled her sleeve back. "If you continue to be so rude and talk nonsense, I will tell Father."
Wei Yin had always been in good health and rarely got sick, but this time, after watching the lanterns at night, she caught a cold from the wind and fell ill again, this time more seriously than before, running a fever for two consecutive days. Lu Hun couldn't bring himself to talk to her about marriage anymore.
When Wei's father came to see his daughter, he was very worried when he saw that Wei Yin's face was flushed with fever and she was sleeping in a daze all day. He said, "What's wrong with Yin'er these days? Her body has become very weak. She had been coughing on and off for ten days or half a month because of the cold she had before, and now she gets sick again from the slightest breeze."
These words suddenly made Lu Hun feel very uneasy.
Humans and ghosts are on different paths.
He was a ghost. That day, he shared a room with Wei Yin in the He family's ancestral cemetery. He had been vaguely worried ever since, but at that time, he was reluctant to disappear. Besides, it was only once, so nothing would happen.
But Lu Hun didn't leave and stayed by her side all day, so his ghostly and yin energy naturally clung to her.
He couldn't help but think that perhaps it was better if Wei Yin didn't remember him, since humans and ghosts could never be together after all.
Seeing his downcast expression, Wei's father comforted him, "You don't need to worry too much. Given time, she might remember everything."
Lu Hun nodded absentmindedly.
After Wei Yin's fever subsided and she woke up, Lu Hun deliberately restrained himself and did not go to her room again. He asked Wei's father to take her medicine and eat with him.
After that, Wei Yin recovered faster. Apart from being a little weak due to her long illness, she even coughed much less.
One day, Wei's father brought her medicine. Wei Yin glanced around and suddenly asked her father in confusion, "Father, where is Young Master Lu? I haven't seen him these past few days."
Wei's father remained silent for a moment before replying.
When Wei's father returned from Wei Yin's place, before he even reached the door, he saw a tall, thin young man standing far away outside. The sword Po Jun flew back and forth behind him, while the young man was deep in thought, as if he was waiting for him.
Wei's father asked in surprise, "Lu Hun, what are you doing here?"
"Lord Wei," Lu Hun called out as usual.
Father Wei sensed that he had something to say and invited him in. Before Lu Hun could speak, Father Wei said, "You've come at the right time. Yin'er was just asking about you. It seems she still cares about you. Go and see her later."
Lu Hun shook his head, "Lord Wei, I won't go—"
Mr. Wei thought he had misheard. "What did you say?"
“Lord Wei, I promised you before that once everything was settled, I would leave this place and leave my sister.” Lu Hun took a deep breath, seemingly finding it difficult to speak, but he still managed to say it. “My sister and I are separated by the boundaries between the living and the dead. If I stay by her side any longer, her health will deteriorate. Now that my sister no longer remembers me, it’s better for me to leave.”
If he hadn't brought it up again, Wei's father would have almost forgotten about it. He was surprised again, "But you're all married now. What if she remembers later...?"
“She won’t remember.” Lu Hun said decisively, “These past few days, I have delayed my sister. After I leave, I ask Lord Wei to find her another good husband. If my sister really likes Young Master Ji, that’s fine too. As long as my sister can live a good life, I’m willing to do anything.”
Upon hearing this, Wei's father could only sigh inwardly. He couldn't help but ask, "Then where are you going? I heard that your parents and relatives have long since passed away. Where are you, a lonely ghost, going?"
Lu Hun smiled and shook his head.
Mr. Wei hesitated for a moment, "Then do you want to see her one more time before you leave?"
Lu shook his head again. He dared not go, afraid that if he saw her again, he would be reluctant to part with her.
Father Wei sighed, "Alright, go ahead. I'll tell her later. If she remembers later, I'll tell her. Lu family child, you almost sacrificed yourself to the sword before, and you barely escaped with your life. But I didn't expect that she would forget. You two are probably destined to be apart in this life. Sigh, take care on your journey."
Lu Hun walked out carrying his sword, and Wei's father personally saw him off at the door.
Lu Hun did not wear the clothes Wei Yin had prepared for him. He was still dressed in the same simple cloth robe as when he came, with a square scarf on his head. The long ribbons that reached his waist fluttered messily and forlornly in the night wind. The boy's thin figure seemed to be about to collapse in the night wind. The rusty sword in his hand gradually transformed into a green bamboo umbrella, the umbrella covering most of his pale face. He looked exactly the same as when he appeared at He Village. Now, just like when he came, he gradually disappeared from Wei's father's sight.
Wei's father stared with pity at the back of the well-behaved boy, who had a tragic past and a life full of hardships, for a long time. In the end, he hardened his heart and closed the door.
The creaking of the door sounded like a sorrowful sigh before a Buddha.
The moment Lu Hun stepped out of the Wen family's old house, his mind went blank. He didn't remember how long he had walked or where he was. He just subconsciously continued walking along the mountain path.
Perhaps sensing its master's emotions, Po Jun stopped moving around as usual and lay quietly in his hand, letting him support it.
In the distance, Lu Hun saw an old pavilion appear before him. Suddenly, he felt as if he had lost all his strength and moved stiffly towards the old pavilion step by step. As soon as he stepped onto the steps, he finally let go of the umbrella and let it fall to the ground. He could no longer bear the grief in his heart, so he sat down and buried his head in his knees.
As a child, he was called Lu Hun, an unlucky name, but he didn't resent it.
He didn't resent Lu Mingli's disgust.
Madam He didn't care about her son at all, and he never complained.
At this moment, Lu Hun suddenly felt resentful, resenting that he was born to Madam He and that he was born into the Lu family.
Why make him a ghost when he's already dead?
If he were a normal person, he could do what he wanted and marry the girl he liked.
Lu Hun bit his lip hard, trying to suppress the urge to return to the Wen family's old house and see Wei Yin. He struggled to hold back, even though his whole body was trembling.
The boy was completely absorbed in his own world and did not notice that there was another figure sitting in the old pavilion. The person silently watched his back as he squatted on the ground for a long time, until he saw that the boy was trembling all over, then slowly got up and came up behind him.
"Weren't you leaving? Why is there a ghost squatting here crying? It's making people laugh."
The sound sent a chill down the spine of the boy who was holding back tears.
The person sitting in the old pavilion was none other than Wei Yin. Although she looked haggard, she had put on some makeup and put the silver hairpin with locust blossoms back in her hair.
Seeing the boy with his head down, Wei Yin smiled and said, "Little Lu Hun, come to your sister."
Lu Hun finally looked up and realized that his eyes were bloodshot, filled with gloom and sorrow. He stared at her face in disbelief.
Seeing the boy's appearance, Wei Yin sighed and reached out her hand to him, "Come here, let your sister hug Lu Hun."
Lu Hun didn't care about his doubts and hugged her waist, burying his face in her neck, but his body was still undulating with excitement.
Wei Yin patted the boy's stiff back and coaxed him softly, "Sister is here, Lu Hun is not upset anymore."
Lu Hun didn't say a word, his eyes bloodshot as he pressed down on her neck and kissed her lips. He was very excited, and he almost pressed Wei Yin down on the steps. Wei Yin didn't stop him, but tilted her neck up slightly and tried her best to cooperate with his kiss, while constantly stroking his back soothingly with her hands.
He entwined his tongue with hers, and only when he was done did he release her, panting.
"Sister, you remember?"
"Fool."
Wei Yin wrapped her arms around his neck and laughed twice. Lu Hun stared at her laughing in confusion. Then, Wei Yin pulled the precious jade from her neck. "Have you forgotten? With this, it's not so easy for you to erase your sister's memory."
Lu Hun was stunned. "Sister hasn't forgotten Lu Hun at all?"
Wei Yin nodded, "Didn't you want your sister to forget you? Well, your sister will give it a try."
Lu Hun's eyes reddened again, and he quickly hugged her. "I regret it, sister. I don't want you to forget me. I don't want that. I want you to always remember me. I want you to like me."
The boy was thin and frail, and his words were mournful and pitiful.
Wei Yin tenderly stroked the boy's thin, trembling shoulders. She pulled him up, picked up a bundle from the stone table in the old pavilion, took out the black cloak from inside, and carefully helped the boy put it on.
The boy's eyes were fixed on her, and he couldn't bear to look away for even a moment. But then he suddenly remembered something, and his face turned pale. He quickly stepped back, not daring to let Wei Yin touch him. Wei Yin saw his hesitation and, without saying a word, took the initiative to hold the boy's hand.
“My lord,” she said softly, “my little lord, I’ll take you home.”
All of Lu Hun's worries vanished at the sound of that "my lord," and he let the woman in front of him lead him toward the Wen family's old residence.
The first snow of the desolate state began to fall tonight, landing on the two of them. Lu Hun transformed Po Jun into a green umbrella, sheltering him and Wei Yin from the cold. This time, the boy no longer followed her cautiously from afar as he had in the school, but walked side by side with her on the snowy road home. Inside the Wen family's old house, the lights were on, and a table of food and wine had been prepared in advance. Wei's father stood alone at the door, carrying a lantern, welcoming his daughter and son-in-law home for dinner.

Author's Note: With these last few words, this story comes to an end. I'll be writing a few short post-wedding epilogues later, and I expect to start the next book early next year.
