Chapter 16

Chapter 16

The incident of being abandoned during the outing cast a huge shadow on Zhou Zhaodi. For a long time, she was unwilling to leave the Cheng family. She stayed at home after school and did not go anywhere.

But she didn't want to stay in Cheng Xiangheng's room, so she secretly ran to the servant's residence, got into her mother's bed, and smelled the unique scent of her mother. At this time, Zhou Zhaodi's heart would be much calmer.

But this happiness is not always there. After school, Zhaodi's younger brother would come back to the room, and when he saw Zhaodi, he would hit her with his fat and strong body.

Poor Zhaodi was three years older than his younger brother, but due to long-term malnutrition, his body was much smaller than his younger brother and he had no power to resist at all.

She left her mother's room dejectedly, like a thief who stole other people's happiness.

At this time, apart from going to Cheng Xiangheng's room, she didn't know where else in the world could take her in.

She didn't want to go back to Cheng Xiangheng's room, so she chose to stay in the garden.

There are large areas of roses planted in the garden. The roses here are different from those in other places. They grow extremely lush. At four or five o'clock in the summer, the roses that cover the sky can completely swallow up the light in the garden, and the whole garden is very dim.

When it was completely dark, the garden was pitch dark, and the air was filled with a damp fragrance that made people feel ominous. On weekdays, servants were not allowed to enter, only special caretakers and the owner of the place could enter.

Ping An stayed here secretly, but was discovered by Cheng Xiangheng after less than an hour. He took her out with a gloomy face and punished her by not allowing her to eat at night.

Ping An cried again.

Cheng Xiangheng didn't care about it. He knew that the outing had hurt Zhou Zhaodi, but so what? It was Zhou Zhaodi's fault for being disobedient, and it was normal for her to be punished.

Zhou Zhaodi noticed that her little pet was missing one morning when she did not prepare clothes for Cheng Xiangheng as usual.

Cheng Xiangheng impatiently asked someone to go look for her, with vicious ideas running through his mind, which he planned to put into practice one by one on Zhou Zhaodi who had been found.

The Cheng family was powerful and soon found the direction Zhou Zhaodi left. Cheng Xiangheng immediately got in the car and wanted to catch her himself.

When Cheng Xiangheng was in the car, he watched the scenery outside change from prosperous to desolate bit by bit. The mud splashed by the vehicle on the muddy road was thrown onto the car window. The sounds of cows and sheep continued to be heard in the countryside, and the faint smell of excrement gradually filled the air.

The anger in his heart gradually weakened, and confusion slowly rose in his mind.

He had too much and didn't understand what Zhou Zhaodi's running away from home and insisting on returning to the countryside meant. In his opinion, Zhou Zhaodi's grandparents had treated her badly, and they were already dead, so why would she go back? Did she want to resurrect two creatures who were dead enough to die?

When Cheng Xiangheng looked through the car window and saw Zhou Zhaodi huddled in the corner of her deceased relative's house like a kitten, he suddenly realized the reason why Zhou Zhaodi came back - she was too miserable in the Cheng family.

Because she was suffering so much in the Cheng family, even though her grandparents in the countryside didn't give her food, made her do a lot of work, and raised her like a country cat, she still felt that her home in the countryside was good.

Zhou Zhaodi was already ten years old. In her life, fate had given her no candy, only countless hardships. In her eyes, life in the countryside was much better than at the Cheng family, especially Cheng Xiangheng, who was more terrifying than anything in the countryside.

Cheng Xiangheng became even more confused after realizing this. He was only ten years old and happened to be the product of his parents' abnormal education. Therefore, he could not quite understand what Zhou Zhaodi's starting point was for doing this.

After all, for a ten-year-old skinny, ugly girl with low IQ, leaving the Cheng family is equivalent to death.

He understood this logic, and Zhou Zhaodi, as the person involved, should have understood it even more, but she still ran away.

However, Cheng Xiangheng learned some ways to control his subordinates from his father and knew the principle of giving a sweet reward after a beating, so he asked someone to take the unconscious Zhou Zhaodi back.

When Zhou Zhaodi woke up again, her head was dizzy.

She looked at the sky outside the floor-to-ceiling window in a daze. After a moment of daze, she lowered her head and realized that she was covered with the legendary high-end silk quilt imported from Italy, which was different from her shabby little quilt.

Zhou Zhaodi's quilt was taken by her mother from her grandmother's house. It was rotten inside and out, and the quilt covers at the four corners had tassels.

The bed beneath her was so soft that it seemed to suck her whole body in. The faint scent of gardenias in the air was soothing. The surroundings were expensive and luxurious, yet the decorations were low-key. Zhou Zhaodi suddenly woke up and realized that she was actually sleeping in Cheng Xiangheng's bed!!!

Zhou Zhaodi almost rolled out of bed and looked around in panic, not understanding how she ended up here.

She thought she was going to die instantly, but when she opened her eyes, she found herself back in the devil's den of the Cheng family.

Just then, the door of the room was opened.

Cheng Xiangheng came in with a document. Seeing that she was awake, a smile appeared on his face: "Are you awake? Come and see the gift I gave you."

A puppy, a golden retriever, crawled under Cheng Xiangheng's feet.

No one can resist a puppy, and if they can, then two.

Zhou Zhaodi, who couldn't resist even a single dog hair, even ignored Cheng Xiangheng's hateful behavior the moment she saw the puppy. The little golden retriever excitedly rushed towards Zhou Zhaodi, wagging its tail.

She took the puppy and held it in her arms.

The puppy was extremely enthusiastic and licked Zhou Zhaodi's chin madly.

Zhou Zhaodi smiled and rolled around happily in her nest holding it.

At this moment, Cheng Xiangheng handed the document to Zhou Zhaodi: "This is the document for changing your name. From today on, your name is Zhou Ping'an."

If her name isn't Zhou Zhaodi, then she can be called Zhou Ping'an.
