Chapter 43

Chapter 43

Late at night, heavy rain poured down.

Ping An was interrogated over and over again by the police. After confirming that Ma Mei committed suicide, they asked Ping An to come and collect the body in two days.

Ping An walked out of the police station in a daze and walked home step by step.

There was no one on the street except Ping An. She didn't know how long she had been walking. The cold rain mixed with the mud from the ground flowed past Ping An, taking her with it, and walking into the unknown abyss.

Standing at the entrance of the alley downstairs, Ping'an seemed to suddenly come to his senses and turned his head to look at another alley. The alley was deserted and dark, and his mother's blood was flowing on the dirty ground.

She saw Ma Mei standing in the shadow of the alley, her bloodshot eyes filled with resentment looking at her. Ping An felt dizzy and fear almost took over her mind, making her dare not blink even in the heavy rain.

Her mother said that if she didn't take good care of her brother, she would never let her go even if she became a ghost.

The girl, who had just turned 18 and had not yet begun to look forward to a better life in the future, was caught off guard by her mother's belated "birthday gift" and was almost heartbroken.

Ping'an pinched his palm hard, suppressed his fear, and forced himself not to look at Ma Mei's figure. He lowered his head and walked towards home.

After walking only two steps, Ping An stopped and saw Cheng Xiangheng standing in front of her. He was holding an umbrella and carrying a large bag of things in his hand.

Ping'an couldn't see Cheng Xiangheng's expression clearly, but the moment he saw his figure, tears welled up in his eyes.

She staggered and almost fell to the ground, but her legs were stiff and numb, so her body stood in a strange posture.

"God, who has a soft heart, please save me." Ping'an's tears flowed more and more. The rain was so heavy that it made her dizzy and her whole body ached.

"Help me, Ah Heng, hug me, okay?"

Ping An opened his arms, but the person in front of him still didn't move.

The next moment, there was lightning and thunder. Ping An saw Cheng Xiangheng clearly and also saw his expression clearly.

His expression was so gloomy and weird that Ping An had never seen before. He looked like a ferocious evil ghost crawling out of hell to devour people's blood. His sinister look made people feel scared!

Ping An had never seen Cheng Xiangheng like this before, and he unconsciously took two steps back.

Cheng Xiangheng noticed Ping'an's movements, and a crazy smile appeared on his face, which was as pale as a dead person who had just been resurrected: "Zhou Ping'an, what did you find?"

He approached Ping'an step by step, and Ping'an's heart began to tremble little by little for some unknown reason: "Ah Heng...what's wrong with you..."

Cheng Xiangheng stopped and said jokingly, "Ah, so you don't know what I did yet."

He threw the things in his hand to the ground as if throwing away garbage.

A flash of lightning appeared, and Ping'an saw clearly what was on the ground - it was Baisui.

Its head looked like it had been severely damaged by something and was no longer in shape. Its eyeballs had popped out and were barely being held together by skin tissue. Its fur was covered in blood. Even with such a heavy rain, the blood from its body kept flowing to the ground, as if there was no end.

Ping An first stopped breathing, then suddenly broke out into a violent coughing fit. She vomited and cried at the same time, looking extremely miserable and pitiful!

Baisui, who was expected to live a long life, died when he was the youngest and strongest in his life.

Ping'an fell to the ground, without any strength to support herself. Her eyes were fixed on Baisui, her mind was blank.

Cheng Xiangheng, with his back to the light, said nonchalantly, "It's really big and heavy, and the head is very hard. It's a bit difficult to hit it."

Cheng Xiangheng couldn't help laughing, as if he had thought of something funny. "I grabbed him from behind when he wasn't prepared and tied up his limbs. He was struggling, but when he realized it was me, he just lay down and didn't move, swishing his tail. I had even stuck my knife in him, but he thought it was a joke."

"Don't, don't say that again!"

Ping An couldn't help wanting to vomit, but there was nothing left to vomit. He almost shouted at the top of his lungs to stop Cheng Xiangheng from continuing, but he showed no sign of stopping. "Do you know why I want to kill it? Because I'm really annoyed by you. You've raised it for a hundred years, but you often forget to feed it, and you still ask me to do it. Dog shit stinks too. I really can't stand it, so I'm just going to kill it."

Ping An raised his eyes and said, "I'll only ask you once, Cheng Xiangheng, who killed Baisui?"

Cheng Xiangheng seemed to pause for a moment, then quickly laughed again: "You're really weird. The facts are right in front of you, but you don't want to believe it. Do you like me too much? It would be very cheap for a girl to do that."

"I'll ask you one last time, who killed Baisui?"

Cheng Xiangheng said impatiently: "It was me, I killed it!"

"Why don't you kill me too?"

Ping'an's voice was hoarse and unpleasant. She screamed and collapsed to the extreme: "Kill me! Kill me! Kill me! I don't want to live anymore!"

Cheng Xiangheng walked up to Ping An and stood still, stroking his bloody hand on his face. "I haven't tasted you yet. It would be a pity to kill you."

The road he walked on was covered with blood, as if a devil had crawled out of hell.

Ping An's eyes flashed red and white, and she could no longer stand. She grabbed Cheng Xiangheng's clothes, trying hard not to lose consciousness: "You have your reasons, right? Cheng Xiangheng, please... don't be so cruel to me, please..."

Cheng Xiangheng was annoyed by her pulling, and pushed Ping An to the ground as if he was discarding a hundred-year-old corpse.

"There's nothing wrong, Ping'an. I'm really sorry. My father came to find me and wants to take me to North America to inherit the family fortune. I definitely can't take you with me. You're not presentable, and it would be embarrassing to take you there. You took me home and saved my life. I've taken care of you over the years, and I've repaid you for saving my life. I don't owe you anything. Baisui is my gift to you, and I don't want to leave you with any memories. Now that it's dead, we owe each other nothing."

So that's how it is.

Ping An tried to look less embarrassed. Now that things had come to this, she should just turn around and leave. But the past flashed before her eyes, and she was obsessed with Cheng Xiangheng's kindness. There was no way she could let him go. "But what is between us? Xiangheng, I beg you, I know you must have your reasons. You will never leave me. I beg you not to leave me. You are all I have..."

Cheng Xiangheng chuckled softly and kicked Bai Sui's corpse away in disgust. "We have a mutually beneficial relationship. I don't have any hardship. I'm simply too lazy to take you away. Do you know that every night when you roll into my arms, I feel extremely disgusted!"

"No! I won't snuggle into your arms anymore, okay? As long as you don't leave me——"

"Zhou Ping'an, do you know that your persistence really annoys me? We can never be together because you are not worthy."

Cheng Xiangheng's tone was so cold that it froze Ping'an's mind. She stared blankly at the way Cheng Xiangheng kicked the hundred-year-old corpse. It was no different from kicking garbage.

Ping'an felt her palm was cut, but she didn't feel any pain. She looked up at Cheng Xiangheng and finally gave up.

It turned out that he had never changed. The bad habits of his youth had been with him all his life. The reason why he hadn't been exposed before was because he had no capital. Now that he had the ability to return to the top of the mountain, he naturally wanted to throw off the burden and let himself go.

This is Cheng Xiangheng, cold, indifferent, and heartless.

Lightning flickered, and a train sped past on the viaduct in the distance. The obscure light hit Ping An's face and Cheng Xiangheng's face.

Ping An didn't know if Cheng Xiangheng could see her expression. He must look very ugly with tears streaming down his face, but she couldn't see his face clearly, and couldn't imagine how heartless his expression would be at this moment.

Several cars that looked extremely expensive slowly turned into the alley, their lights shining brightly on Ping An's face. She squinted her eyes in embarrassment.

She heard him laughing, as if it was extremely funny. The sound in his throat made it difficult for her to tell at that moment whether he was laughing or crying.

Ping An stood up and said in a hoarse voice, "Cheng Xiangheng, you are too powerful. You play with me like an animal. I won't bother you anymore. I'm scared."

Ping An wanted to make a few more sarcastic remarks, but he couldn't say anything at all. It felt like his heart was dead.

"I should thank you. You're really amazing. You even taught me a lesson before leaving." Ping An stood up straight. "I will never trust anyone again. Cheng Xiangheng, I hate you."
