Chapter 2 Observing You Sitting on the Lotus Throne "I have never doubted you..."
Shenxiao Palace is the main hall of the Eighteen Realms and also Heng Qichun's residence.
There is a spring in the hall, from which the gushing streams converge into a small clear pool, which is then lifted up by spiritual energy and merged into the water of the Heavenly Terrace Pool.
A lotus statue of Guanyin rises from the ground, echoing the enormous, inexhaustible tree outside the hall.
The divine grace protects all living beings under heaven.
Lou Yan followed closely in, stood at the doorway, and raised his eyes to peek at the temple with a sinister look.
The spring water was filled with spiritual energy, and the Guanyin lotus was pure and clear. The entire hall was shrouded in Heng Qichun's divine blessing.
Everything is still the same as it was before.
"What are you standing there for? Do I need to ask you?" Heng Qichun's voice suddenly rang out, and Lou Yan subconsciously trembled, his dark eyelashes covering the beauty mark under his eye.
He looked over and saw Heng Qichun lightly raise his hand, pointing to the ground not far from the lotus platform and saying, "Kneel there."
Lou Yan: ?
What are you doing?
He lowered his eyes and looked at the spot on the ground that Heng Qichun was pointing to, and quickly understood his intention.
I thought he brought up the baby Pixiu out of a change of heart, but it turns out it was just to put on a show in front of outsiders.
Even behind closed doors, they still beat and punish.
Lou Yan couldn't help but grin again.
You beast in human form, a hypocrite in human clothing. Once my cultivation is restored, I'll bite your neck off.
Lost in thought, he inadvertently met Heng Qichun's gaze and quickly shivered. His exposed canine teeth were immediately pressed against his tongue, and he even pretended to lick them.
He listlessly lowered his head and said, "Oh."
Having said that, he stopped struggling, threw off his robes, and knelt down neatly on the ground.
The ground of Shenxiao Palace met the clear pool below, and it was chilling to the bone. Lou Yan, dressed in thin clothes, couldn't help but frown as he knelt down.
Her fingertips tightened inch by inch, and her body began to sway uncontrollably.
Shivering.
He struggled under Heng Qichun's tutelage for decades, and from when he was still a wolf cub, he had been punished hundreds of times.
Every time, it left an unforgettable impression on him.
Having been reborn, my courage has returned.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Heng Qichun walking towards him, raising one hand in a lotus shape, as if to summon the stringless zither.
Lou Yan took a deep breath, closed her eyes again, and began to tremble even more noticeably.
With his hands hanging at his sides, assuming Heng Qichun couldn't see him, he simply gripped a small section of his sleeve tightly.
And he kept telling himself: Forget it, for the sake of being reborn, I'll just have to bear with it this time.
It shouldn't hurt too much.
My forehead suddenly felt itchy.
Lou Yan opened his eyes in confusion and saw Heng Qichun standing in front of him, maintaining a slightly bowed posture.
His snow-white white hair fell down his shoulders, his left hand made a hand seal, and his right hand naturally stroked the top of his head.
Lou Yan felt a chill run down her spine.
His body hair stood on end, his eyelashes trembled rapidly, and a sharp canine tooth bit into a small piece of flesh on the inside of his lip, refusing to flinch away.
What are we going to do?
It can't be that they sensed something was wrong with him and wanted to get rid of him as soon as possible...
Lou Yan knew that his current cultivation level was no match for Heng Qichun, but if Heng Qichun really wanted to cripple him, he might as well fight to the death.
He loosened his sleeve slightly, took a deep breath, and tried to get up from the ground, but Heng Qichun pressed his head down and pushed him back down as soon as he raised his knee an inch.
A faint lotus fragrance drifted over Heng Qichun's fingertips, mingling with the cool touch of his fingers—Lou Yan shuddered.
He was all too familiar with that taste.
Heng Qichun sat on the lotus platform, cultivating in seclusion, his spiritual power also imbued with the fragrance of lotus.
In his previous life, when he dispersed his cultivation and perished together with Lou Yan in the Divine Firmament Palace, the entire temple smelled like this.
Lou Yan, having temporarily confirmed that Heng Qichun did not intend to kill him, waited a moment and finally uttered his second call of the day: "Master?"
"Hmm." Heng Qichun responded quickly, his eyes lowered, filled with sorrow, but his voice was exceptionally clear and gentle, "Don't speak."
A wisp of lotus fragrance lingered on Lou Yan's forehead.
Heng Qichun's fingertips twitched slightly, and he formed another hand seal. Before Lou Yan could even voice her doubts, he spoke—
"That mermaid was too greedy and didn't hesitate to let a ghost enter its body. Although you swallowed it and prevented it from falling into demonic ways, the demonic energy has now accumulated in your body, which is not a good feeling in the end."
"I will help you be extradited."
Having said that, he said no more and drove more and more spiritual energy into Lou Yan's forehead.
Lou Yan let out a muffled groan.
He couldn't help but tilt his head back in the direction of Heng Qichun's palm. A large amount of spiritual energy flowed through his limbs and bones, constantly clashing with the demonic energy that had tainted his body, causing spasms wherever it went.
Lou Yan's Adam's apple bobbed, and the fishy smell in his mouth grew stronger.
The surging demonic energy struggled within his body, but was eventually calmed and soothed by the spiritual energy Heng Qichun channeled into him, overflowing through Lou Yan's meridians.
A moment later, Heng Qichun severed the divine incantation.
Lou Yan finally couldn't hold back any longer and bent over, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
The bloodstains stained the hem of Heng Qichun's robe, spreading into a bright red patch, like the red plum blossoms on the back mountain in early spring.
Lou Yan raised his hand to cover his lips, wiping away the few beads of blood that had dripped from the corner of his mouth. He then grabbed his clothes, trying to clean his palms.
But the clothes were dirty, and after wiping them for a long time, they weren't much cleaner. There was still a patch of bloodstain on my palm that I couldn't get rid of.
Lou Yan stared at the hem of Heng Qichun's robe, and almost without hesitation, leaned over and tried to lick it.
With a loud "bang".
Heng Qichun kicked him back.
Lou bared his teeth in disgust, and just as he was about to get up, he heard a voice from the head of the table.
It was Heng Qichun's slightly annoyed remark—"Lou Yan."
Realizing what she was doing, Lou Yan suddenly knelt back down, clutching the piece of her clothes with both hands, her exposed sharp teeth tightly biting the corner of her mouth.
Heng Qichun glanced at him, shook the hem of his robe, and casually recited an incantation, easily removing the bloodstain.
He then looked at Lou Yan again, the pity in his eyes fading, replaced by a faint reproach, "When are you going to get rid of this habit of biting and licking everything indiscriminately?"
Lou Yan let out a very soft "woof" and remained kneeling on the spot, refusing to answer.
Human habits are hard to change, and wolves are no exception.
Even though he had become the Demon Lord of the Nine Netherworld in his previous life, he still couldn't help but have many thoughts of biting people's necks.
This is simply asking the impossible.
"Never mind." Heng Qichun sighed. He had been trying to correct these habits for many years, but so far it seemed there was little progress.
He grabbed Lou Yan's arm and pulled him up, instructing him, "I left a portion of my spiritual energy in your body. You must not recklessly use your spiritual power these next few days, or you will suffer a backlash."
Lou Yan was still controlling her oral desires. Upon hearing this, she lowered her head and nodded, her voice sounding somewhat muffled.
"oh."
Then came a long silence.
The crowds outside had long since dispersed, and only the gurgling sound of the spring water remained in the vast Shenxiao Palace; no one else made a sound.
Lou Yan didn't know what to say.
In his previous life, he was expelled from his sect because of a mermaid. When he crawled out of the Tiantai Pond, he had already fallen into the demonic path and had no chance to stand here and "talk properly" with Heng Qichun.
Logically speaking, he should have grabbed Heng Qichun and started cursing at her, then bit her beautiful neck without hesitation.
But……
This life is different. Heng Qichun did not point out in front of everyone that he was a demon wolf, but said that Lou Yan was the original master's disciple and was not some kind of evil spirit.
Lou Yan was in a bit of a dilemma.
He habitually tilted his head in thought, his tongue unconsciously licking his canine tooth. After struggling with the question for a long time, he finally asked the figure with his back turned, "If it weren't for that Luduan beast, would Master still believe me?"
Heng Qichun turned his head to look at him.
His cool eyes held a hint of indifference, and his almost pale face revealed little emotion. He stood there with his sleeves tucked in, as if he were far removed from everyone else.
She was still the same, cold and aloof, somewhat unapproachable.
Lou Yan felt that he wouldn't answer.
He looked away, a hint of crimson appearing at the corner of his eye. He asked listlessly, "My master said that the mermaid I swallowed was the youngest prince of the mermaid clan. Should I... not have swallowed him?"
"All beings are equal," Heng Qichun quickly replied. "Even if he is a prince of the Merfolk, he shouldn't have allowed a ghost to possess him. As for you..."
Heng Qichun looked him up and down, then pursed her lips and said tactfully, "You have your own way of solving things too."
He was referring to Lou Yan's habit of solving problems in a wolf-like manner, but there was no accusation in his words.
Lou Yan looked up at him, the small patch of crimson at the corner of his eye spreading a little more. He asked uncertainly, "Then... will the Merfolk really come to cause trouble for the Eighteen Realms?"
Heng Qichun replied calmly, "Perhaps."
"Then I..."
"You're staying here, you're not allowed to go anywhere."
The tone was somewhat cold, almost pulling Lou Yan's thoughts back to many years ago—when he had just transformed into human form, he had caused a lot of trouble and had been coldly reprimanded by Heng Qichun many times by grabbing his ear.
At that time, the little wolf was actually very afraid of his master.
Lou Yan then pouted again, lowered her head, and nodded, "Oh."
Now that Heng Qichun is on his side, Lou Yan decided to maintain a superficial harmony between master and disciple for the time being.
If I want to avenge my past life, I'll probably have to wait until my cultivation level returns to what it was before...
"Lou Yan," Heng Qichun called to him.
Lou Yan tilted his head and looked up with a soft "hmm," as if he saw his master smiling at him.
The stern-faced deity said, "I have never doubted you."
This statement is more damaging than anything else today.
Lou Yan's mind went blank for a moment, and all the spiritual energy in his body froze on the spot. He watched Heng Qichun turn and leave, watched him sit cross-legged on the lotus platform, and watched the lotus hand seal turn out on his fingers, releasing a few strands of divine light.
But……
Lou Yan tilted her head and looked at him, her mind a jumbled mess of threads that she couldn't untangle.
The deity on the lotus platform had already closed his eyes and sat in meditation, seemingly unaware of the deadly words he had just uttered.
Lou Yanxiang.
If you have always believed in me, why did you have to kill me with your own hands in your past life?
