Catching an adulterer
Wei Yun was drunk. She rarely got drunk. When she was a servant in Princess Pingyang's mansion, she had never tasted such pure wine, only the muddy wine brewed by the servants themselves. Later, living under Empress Chen's rule, she walked on thin ice, trembling with fear, afraid that she would poison herself with her food one day if she was not satisfied.
Later, she died and she became the queen. She had heavy palace affairs to deal with, and her affection with the emperor became less, so she didn't dare to get drunk.
It had been a long time since she had felt this comfortable. She felt light and airy, as if she was walking on clouds, but at the same time she felt itchy and hot, the kind of itch that went through her skin, through her blood, and into her bones.
The bed was just within reach, but she felt so weak that she couldn't even take a step. She grabbed the desk and leaned over. The cold and hard touch eased her for a moment, but the next moment, it was like a wildfire blown by the wind, spreading across the prairie. Her whole body became weak and sweat oozed out.
"water--"
"What does the Queen want?"
Something approached her, a pair of hands, one pair each holding her arms. The touch of finger bones through flesh touched soft skin, and a string in her heart suddenly broke.
This was the scene the emperor and his palace maids saw when they entered. The doors and windows were closed, and the spring light shone into the room through the dim window paper. His queen, her clothes half-revealed, was kissing another young man.
The dress hung diagonally across her chest, revealing half her white flesh. The empress was already unconscious, and even more ashamed than she was was her husband. Although the palace ladies all lowered their heads, the glaring whiteness, the nakedness, seemed to reveal not the woman, but Liu Che himself. His own shame outweighed his anger towards the woman, and he wished he could conjure a sharp sword out of thin air and stab them both in the chest.
Blood rushed from his hand to his brain, and he almost did so. Something soft grabbed his wrist, "Your Majesty."
Cheng Jiao frowned slightly as she looked at him, reminding him of his dignity. As the emperor, he should be calm at this moment. Only if he remained calm would he not lose his dignity.
"All of you, get out."
"His Majesty……"
Cheng Jiao seemed to want to say something more, was it to plead for the Queen, to defend herself, or something else? He didn't want to listen. This woman, with her timid and ignorant appearance, he knew exactly what she was thinking.
Receiving Liu Che's unfathomable gaze, Gillian seemed a little scared and tactfully let go of his hand.
Everyone left, leaving only Liu Che, the Queen, and Zhang Si in the room. If the Queen was infatuated by Cheng Jiao's drink, then Zhang Si was possessed by a ghost and was caught off guard.
When he regained consciousness, he knelt on the ground, almost burying his head in the ground, his whole body shaking.
He heard the footsteps approaching little by little. He almost shed tears and his ears turned red. Finally, the footsteps stopped in front of him.
Before he could dodge, he heard the sound of a sword being struck, and then the back of his hand was pierced through, like a piece of pork nailed to the ground. Zhang Si howled in pain, raised his head, and finally saw Liu Che's cold and gloomy face.
He was furious to the extreme, yet he was still trying to control himself, because the man before him, a trembling actor, was probably no different from a dog nibbling on a leftover bone or a rat drinking dirty water from a gutter.
"Do you like the Queen?"
"I dare not."
"Don't dare? So you mean the Queen dares."
Zhang Si lowered his head without responding. All his beautiful dreams now turned into a broken mirror, shattering piece by piece.
His hand was still bleeding, the sharp, cold blade gleaming silver as the man in black stood before him. With a single word, a single glance, he could have a million ways to die. Only then did he realize the stark difference between them.
Wei Yun's eyes gradually became clear at this moment. She leaned against the table leg, looked at Zhang Si sideways, and curled the corners of her mouth.
Liu Che drew his sword and asked, "One last question, who brought you into the palace?"
"Yes...Mrs. Cheng."
"Get out." Liu Che got the answer and drove Zhang Si out.
Wei Yun smiled and said, "It was indeed her. She gave me that glass of wine, and she was the one who brought you here."
"The despicable methods of your Wei family are not exactly the same." Liu Che said sarcastically.
Cheng Jiao is Wei Yun's nephew's wife, but she is determined to seduce Wei Yun's husband and covet Wei Yun's position, just as Wei Yun climbed into his bed back then.
"Despicable?" Wei Yun sneered at Liu Che. "Back then, I was just a little singing girl sent to the palace by the princess. Without Your Majesty's permission, how could I have entered Your Majesty's chambers and slept on Your Majesty's bed? If you want to talk about despicable, isn't it Your Majesty who is despicable?"
"That's just me being drunk."
"What a stupid drunken idiot! If you were really that confused, why didn't you grab me and beat me up? Why didn't you kill me impulsively? Instead, you stripped me of my clothes... Yes, Your Majesty did want to kill me. When Empress Chen caught me and nearly beat me to death in the palace, Your Majesty must have wished for my death to appease her jealousy!" Wei Yun stood up with the help of the table, smiling and looking directly at Liu Che. "It's a pity that I'm so lucky. I got pregnant with the prince and outlasted that woman."
Liu Che suddenly slapped her. Wei Yun turned her head away. "You get angry just talking about the Empress? She's dead, why is Your Majesty pretending to be so sentimental? Wasn't it Your Majesty who hurt her the most and caused her to die of depression? I can only sit in this position with Your Majesty's permission. The lowly servants she despises and hates the most live in her palace and use her things. I'm afraid the Empress won't be at peace in the underworld."
"Do you think that being crowned queen really makes you worthy of the position? You are no match for Gillian."
"Your Majesty, I know this without you reminding me. Since her death, women have been sent into the harem one after another, and they all look like her. It makes me sick. Your Majesty, do you think I admire you so much? Without Empress Chen and the eldest princess, you would never be able to sit in this position. You are nothing!"
"Wei Yun, are you crazy?"
"Will Your Majesty let me go if I don't tell you? You've wanted to destroy me for a long time, but you can't do that now. Your Majesty still needs my brother, and the war in the north still needs people to fight. Your Majesty's vast empire depended on the Dou family for the first half of his life and the Wei family for the second half. Do you dare to kill me?"
The tip of the knife brushed past her face, blood seeping down her cheek. A strand of hair fell to the ground, and she instantly shut her mouth. Liu Che looked at her as if she were a dead object. Seeing her frightened expression, he sneered, "Wei Qing is no longer able to fight. You're right. If it had been two years earlier, you could have died a few years later. But Wei Yun is no longer the same as before."
Wei Yun's heart skipped a beat, and he glared at Liu Che, "Your Majesty, don't you worry about being criticized by the court officials and the people of the world for being ungrateful?"
"The rabbit is dead, the dog is cooked? You are right. Whether it is the Dou family, the Chen family, the Wei family, or any other noble family in the world, they are all just running dogs of my Liu family! Now it is time to use sticks to break your bones one by one."
Liu Che left the palace and the door was immediately closed. The whole house fell into darkness and silence again. Wei Yun leaned against the door and felt cold all over.
