Carefully note the arrangement of the threads before taking them out and opening the lid.
I saw that the vat was more than half full of rice.
Without hesitation, Su He reached in and, unsurprisingly, found something at the bottom of the jar.
Then, with a bit of force, it was pulled out.
In the dim light, Su He could roughly tell what it was, which was similar to her previous guess.
Only then did she feel a sense of relief.
He didn't stay long after that. He quickly put the things back in their original places, put the lid on the jar, and restored all the threads on it to their original state before leaving.
When she locked the door, Su He made sure to put the key back in the same spot, even in the same shape as before she took it.
After carefully recalling everything, and feeling that he hadn't forgotten anything, he quietly left the police station and returned to the Xu family home.
The outcome was as she had guessed. Although she was very excited, she tried her best not to let others see it and made breakfast as usual.
Hearing the sounds of her cooking, Aunt Xu also got up. She's old and doesn't need much sleep anyway, and since she hasn't been working lately and isn't tired, she woke up early in the morning.
Su He was still tending the fire when she saw Granny Xu come out leaning on her cane.
The cane was rented for her by Brother Xu. Her foot is almost fully recovered, but she can't put too much weight on it, so she still has to use the cane to walk.
When Aunt Xu saw her, she said with concern, "Why are you up so early again? You're still young, you should sleep more, otherwise you won't grow tall."
Su He wanted to laugh when she heard this; Aunt Xu was treating her like a child.
He immediately laughed and said, "Don't worry, Auntie, I'll definitely grow taller. I'll grow to be 1.8 meters tall!"
Aunt Xu glared at her angrily, "Don't talk nonsense. If you really are 1.8 meters tall, you can forget about getting married."
Su He stuck out her tongue after hearing this. She's still young, what's with all this talk about marriage?
After the meal was ready, Xu Ping and his wife got up.
Mrs. Xu has probably passed the three-month morning sickness period, and her complexion is much better now. She doesn't vomit as much as she eats anymore. She's just a little embarrassed, though, since Su He is her mother-in-law's savior, how could she let her get up to make breakfast for the whole family?
But because she was pregnant, she always felt she wasn't getting enough sleep, so she would often buy her pastries and candies as compensation.
Su He knew what she was thinking, so she would occasionally accept the gifts, but she didn't feel that it was something she deserved. After all, they had helped her a lot, and she should be grateful.
...
When it was time for work, Su He went to the police station as usual.
Dong Fang is still here.
Upon seeing her, he greeted her as usual. Su He looked at him carefully and, finding that he hadn't noticed anything, felt relieved.
During the morning work session, Director Wu unexpectedly came over.
He also proactively inquired about how her work was going lately.
Although Su He was surprised that he would suddenly ask such a question, she still told the truth and said that she liked the job very much. Director Wu nodded and said nothing.
Just then, Su He needed to talk to him, so after he left, she made an excuse to go to the restroom and followed him.
When she arrived at Director Wu's office and knocked on the door, Director Wu seemed somewhat surprised to see her.
"What's wrong, Comrade Su He? Is there something you need from me?"
Su He nodded seriously, without hesitation, took a deep breath, and then told him her discovery.
