Chapter 8 The Viper and the Black Cat

Su He immediately didn't want to stay any longer and quickly got up to go down the mountain.

When he turned around, he froze on the spot...

On the way down the mountain, a snake was coiled up somewhere.

The snake was quite large, with zebra-like stripes on its body. At this moment, the snake raised its head and stared straight at her, occasionally sticking out its tongue and making a hissing sound.

Instantly, a chill ran down my spine.

Su He was completely too scared to move at this point. She didn't recognize the species of snake, nor did she know if the one in front of her was poisonous, but she was terrified!

Then she realized that she had forgotten the greatest danger in the mountains!

Venomous snake.

But it was too late. She had already been targeted by the snake, and now she could only try to find a way to get rid of it. Otherwise, if she were bitten, the consequences would be unimaginable. After all, she didn't think that such a small village would have any antivenom.

Thinking of this, Su He trembled slightly and dared not move, but she gritted her teeth and glanced around to see if there was a suitable "weapon".

For some reason, the snake just stared at her without moving.

The two sides remained locked in a stalemate. Just when Su He felt she was about to collapse, a fierce, hoarse meow suddenly came from beside her.

The meow sound seemed to be shooing something away.

Then the snake's head moved, and then, for some unknown reason, it turned and swam into the grass and disappeared...

After an unknown amount of time, until it was completely out of sight, Su He finally breathed a slight sigh of relief, knowing that she had escaped a calamity.

Then I felt my legs go weak, but after what had just happened, I knew I couldn't stay in the mountains any longer, so I gritted my teeth and left.

As I was leaving, I don't know what I was thinking, but I looked back at the spot where the cat had been meowing. Sure enough, there stood a completely black cat.

Su He was delighted to see this, but before she could say anything, the black cat glanced at her, turned around and left, disappearing in just a few steps.

Su He stood there, somewhat regretful, but didn't dare linger and quickly descended the mountain.

It wasn't until she came out of the back mountain and stepped onto the village path that she truly breathed a sigh of relief, though she was also filled with lingering fear!

She never imagined that the mountains would be so dangerous. She encountered a snake on her first trip up the mountain, but thankfully she escaped unharmed. However, she probably wouldn't dare to go there alone again.

Fortunately, the cat was there today. Although she didn't know why the snake left as soon as the cat meowed, she estimated that she would have been in grave danger if it hadn't called out. So Su He was very grateful.

However, thinking of the cat, she still felt a little regretful. Su He had loved small animals since she was a child, especially cats and dogs, otherwise she would not have transmigrated to save the cat.

Thinking of this, she suddenly remembered that the cat she had rescued was also all black, just like the one today, which was quite a coincidence.

I don't know if the cat I saw today was a pet cat kept by the villagers or a stray cat. I guess the latter is more likely. After all, these days, every household is struggling to make ends meet, let alone keep pets. I don't know if I'll ever see one again.

However, she quickly lost interest in thinking about these things, because she encountered many villagers who talked to her after seeing her.

Su He had the original owner's memories, so she recognized them all and greeted them using the original owner's way of addressing them.

Seeing this, everyone was concerned about her health. It was probably because Grandma Su had explained things to her these past few days that everyone knew she hadn't jumped into the river. Whether they believed it or not, no one said it to her.

After exchanging a few words of concern with each of them, the group parted ways.

Su He then managed to escape and return home.
