Lin Jingyan finished packing and went out. Not long after, Grandma Su and Lin's mother arrived.
"Were you two woken up too?"
"Hmm, with such a loud noise, who wouldn't wake up? There are people all outside; anyone who didn't know better would think something terrible had happened. How's the child? Was he scared?" Grandma Su asked with concern.
"I wasn't scared, but I was woken up by the noise. It was too noisy and hard to soothe."
Seeing that Xiao Hui, though not making a fuss, was awake and looking at them with his eyes open, Lin's mother went over and picked him up.
"This woke everyone up. The Huang family was still crying. We don't know what happened."
"Let's see later."
A noisy commotion came from the courtyard. It was estimated that Grandpa Huang had woken up the whole courtyard. Su He listened for a while but couldn't make out what was going on, so she left Xiao Xi in Grandma Su's care and got dressed to go out and see what was happening.
Before they could even go out, Lin Jingyan returned first.
As soon as he came in, he said directly, "Huang Laosan has gone missing. Grandpa Huang wants us to help look for him. You guys go to sleep first, I'll go out with them to take a look."
He grabbed the flashlight and was about to leave.
Su He was puzzled. Wasn't Huang Laosan supposed to have gone out to buy a job? How could he have disappeared?
However, seeing that Lin Jingyan was in a hurry to leave, he didn't ask any questions and quickly called out, "Did you call the police?"
"Someone reported it, let's help look for it first."
Su He was relieved to hear this. Seeing that Lin Jingyan had already joined the others in the tenement and left, she told Grandma Su and the others to go to sleep first.
Seeing this, Grandma Su asked, "Can you take care of the child by yourself? Do you need me to stay here with you?"
Su He shook her head. "No need. They're not young anymore, they're not that delicate. They'll be fine once they fall asleep."
The two were relieved and, seeing that the two children were asleep, went back to their room.
Su He wasn't very sleepy after lying down, and originally planned to wait for Lin Jingyan to come back before going to sleep.
He didn't come back for a long time, so I couldn't stay awake and fell asleep first.
It wasn't until dawn that she heard voices coming from the courtyard. She opened her eyes, raised her hand to check the time, and it was already six o'clock.
So they searched all night?
Just as she was thinking this, Lin Jingyan came in. He hadn't slept all night, and his face was exhausted. Su He felt sorry for him when she saw this.
"Why did it take you so long to get back? You must be exhausted."
Lin Jingyan shook his head. "We didn't find the person. We went to quite a few places, which took up some time."
Su He felt even more sorry for him. Although she was very curious about what had happened to Huang Laosan, she didn't ask because he looked so tired. "Then you should get some sleep. You still have to go to work. I'll wake you up after an hour of sleep."
Lin Jingyan didn't refuse. He was really tired, but his work had been busy lately and he couldn't take leave, so he could only take a short break. He fell asleep soon after lying down.
When Su He came out, she saw that Grandma Su and the others had gotten up, so she told them about Lin Jingyan's return. Everyone probably guessed that he was exhausted, so they spoke in a much softer voice, and they saw that the other families did the same when they came out to cook.
Although Su He was curious about what was wrong with Huang Laosan, she left before Lin Jingyan got up because she was in a hurry to get to work.
Of course, before leaving, they didn't forget to remind Grandma Su and the others to wake him up at the appointed time.
However, she kept thinking about Huang Laosan while at work that day.
It wasn't until I got home from get off work that evening that I finally heard from Lin Jingyan what had happened at the Huang family last night.
