Chapter 65 Understanding the Process

Upon hearing her question, one of the slightly older men stepped forward and said, "Hello, officers. My name is Meng Fu, and I live in Changya Hutong. The deceased was named Meng Qiang, and he was my younger brother. He was discovered around midnight last night."

It wasn't me who found him; it was my sister-in-law. She said that my brother went out drinking with friends after get off work last night, and he didn't come back until after midnight. She was a little worried, so she decided to go out and look for him. As soon as she stepped out the door, she saw him in the drain in front of the house.

He was found headfirst in the drain, and already dead.

Su He nodded after hearing what he said. She hadn't expected this person to be so logical. Moreover, judging from his attire, he seemed to be a leader, and she immediately understood.

After recording what had happened, he asked, "What about the murder you just mentioned?"

Meng Fu continued, "What I just said was told to me by my sister-in-law, but the friend who was drinking with my brother gave a different version."

According to him, they finished drinking around 10 p.m., and he felt that my brother had drunk too much, so he took him to his doorstep and watched him go inside before leaving. It was impossible for him to have collapsed outside the door.

So he thought my sister-in-law was lying, and that my brother must have died from another cause.

But my sister-in-law said that the person was lying, that he killed my brother and then made up an excuse.

The two sides have conflicting accounts, and the dispute has dragged on until now. Our Meng family wanted to seek justice for my brother, so we came to file a police report.

Su He nodded upon hearing this, and then inquired about what these people knew. She discovered that the group that came to report the case was divided into two groups: one group consisted of the deceased's family members, who believed that his friend had killed him.

One group consists of friends who feel they have been framed.

They start arguing and talking non-stop as soon as you ask them a question.

Seeing this, Sun Dahai frowned and said loudly, "Alright, shut up. We'll investigate the details. Let's go to the scene first."

Everyone shut up after hearing that.

Su He and Sun Dahai quickly packed their things and left with them.

Sun Dahai originally wanted to go by himself, but Su He knew he wasn't good with words, so she went with him anyway.

As for the police station, it's already this late, so even if no one is on duty, there's nothing to do. Besides, Changya Hutong isn't far from here, so they'll probably be back soon.

Besides, the police station isn't completely empty right now; there's an old man on duty guarding the gate, so I doubt anything will happen.

After leaving the police station, Su He was fully awakened by the cold wind outside. November in Beijing was already quite cold. Fortunately, her grandmother had prepared a thick cotton-padded coat for her when she went back last time; otherwise, she would probably have to rely on her own willpower to resist the cold.

The group walked for about twenty minutes before arriving at Changya Hutong.

This place is much more chaotic, dilapidated, and crowded than where Aunt Xu lives. This small area is full of people, and you can hear a lot of noise coming from inside. I guess the people in the neighborhood were woken up and came to see what was going on.

Su He frowned upon seeing this. Well, it's probably not going to be any interesting to see at this point.

Sure enough, when I passed by the scene of the incident, there was hardly anything left to see because so many people had passed by.

After that, they went to the deceased's house. As soon as they entered, Su He's pupils shrank, and she was startled!
