Lin Jingyan has been busy again recently; their upgrade application was approved after the start of the new year.
Lin Jingyan officially became an engineer, known as Engineer Lin, and began to mentor apprentices.
Because of his lack of experience, he has only taken on one apprentice so far, named Yan Bo, who graduated from the Workers-Peasants-Soldiers University and is 20 years old this year. He was just assigned to their unit after graduation.
However, the reason he was able to be assigned such a good job was because his father also worked in the machinery factory, so he was considered to have benefited from being the son of a factory worker.
Perhaps knowing that Lin Jingyan was capable, he was not disappointed to be assigned such a young master; on the contrary, he was particularly happy and even came to visit them at home.
He addressed Su He, who was only a few years older than him, as "teacher's wife" without any embarrassment.
He called the children "younger brother" and "younger sister" and brought gifts for everyone in the family.
She's really good at getting things done!
Su He sometimes admired him, thinking that he shouldn't have been a technician, but a public relations professional.
Lin Jingyan chuckled upon hearing this, "The company originally planned to send him to the publicity department, but his family pulled strings and gave him gifts, getting him into the technical department."
"Does he have any technical skills?"
Lin Jingyan shook his head. "He only learned the basics. His father is the workshop director, so he probably knows a little bit, but he doesn't know much."
I wasn't originally planning to mentor him, but the director said that not many worker-peasant-soldier students these days are proficient in these skills, and asked me to teach him more. He said if he could learn, the technical department wouldn't have so much pressure.
Su He nodded. "So how is he doing in his studies?"
"He's alright. He's a studious person and can use his brain. He asks questions when he doesn't understand something. If he could have gone to a professional university to study for a few more years, he would definitely be better off now."
Su He nodded, but there was no use in saying all this now. It was only 1973, and the worker-peasant-soldier college students would still be in school for several more years. If they wanted to have graduates from specialized universities, they would have to wait at least seven or eight years.
After chatting for a while about Lin Jing's apprentice, Su He started thinking about her second cousin's wife.
My second cousin's wife is about to give birth, and my eldest aunt will be coming over in a couple of days to take care of her. She'll probably only be able to help out for a month before leaving, since my eldest cousin's wife is also pregnant and the family needs someone to stay home.
My second sister-in-law will have to go back to work after her confinement period, so what will happen to the baby? Will she be sent back to Grandma Su's place?
The family can take care of the elderly, but I'm worried that my second sister-in-law might not be happy if she finds out that Lin's mother and the others are also living here.
Never mind, we'll see when the time comes.
...
In March, her second cousin's wife gave birth to a daughter. When Su He found out, she and her grandmother went to the hospital to see her.
This was probably her second pregnancy, and the delivery went smoothly. My second cousin's wife looked well, which put Grandma Su at ease.
Her second cousin took a day off to take care of her at the hospital, and her aunt also busied herself taking care of her during her postpartum period.
Judging from her expression, you could tell that her second sister-in-law was very satisfied.
Su He looked at the baby by the bed. The little guy was red and hadn't fully grown yet, but you could already vaguely see his features.
She looked at it carefully and then smiled and said, "The little one is quite good-looking. Her eyes look like her second brother's, and her nose looks like her sister-in-law's. She'll probably grow up to be a beautiful little girl."
After hearing this, my second sister-in-law laughed and said, "Your second brother has long wanted to have a daughter as cute as Xiaoxi. He was overjoyed when I gave birth to a daughter. His wish has finally come true!"
I held her and looked at her closely as soon as she was born, saying her eyes looked like yours, but she probably wasn't as pretty as Xiaoxi.
Su He chuckled upon hearing this. She and her second cousin had eyes like the Su family members, and looked normal. But apart from her eyes, Xiao Xi was just a female version of Lin Jingyan. Even at such a young age, it was clear that she would definitely be outstanding in the future.
Of all the children in the family, only the second child resembles her a little, but most of them look like Lin Jingyan, which makes Su He quite disappointed.
They probably don't know how domineering Xiaoxi is yet; they've only been deceived by her appearance. I wonder if they'll still say she's cute once they find out.
