Chapter 907 There's a Corpse!

The salvage team deployed two boats, each with seven or eight people.

Su He and the others left Wang Aiguo to stand guard, while the others went with him.

However, none of the people boarded the boat; none of them were professionals, so they didn't want to get in the way and just waited on the shore.

There were quite a few onlookers around.

Several people even brought fishing rods, but because of the salvage team's efforts, the fish all got away, so they probably won't be able to catch any.

More and more people gathered around, and many were curious about what was going on. Some of the bolder ones saw that Su He and the others were also there, so they came over and asked them if they knew what was going on.

Su He certainly wouldn't say that she was retrieving a body; she simply said that she was cleaning up trash in the river. Only then did the onlookers lose interest and leave.

Gradually, fewer and fewer people joined.

The morning was uneventful. During the lunch break, since the courtyard was very close, Su He invited two colleagues to her home for lunch. However, Qi Yang and the other colleague were too embarrassed to go and politely declined. In the end, they ate at a nearby state-run restaurant.

Su He went straight home to eat.

When her family saw her return home at noon, they were a little surprised. When they heard that she had spent the whole morning by the nearby river, Grandma Su regretted that she hadn't gone to visit her.

Su He smiled and said, "It's okay. I'll probably be here for the next few days. Besides, there's not much to see. It's all trash, and the water is murky."

Then he looked at Lin's father and the others, "I guess we won't be able to go fishing for the next few days."

Before Lin's father could say anything, Lin's mother chimed in, "He won't be in a hurry to catch anything, even if he tries to fish."

After hearing this, Lin's father pursed his lips, seemingly unconvinced, but ultimately remained silent.

Su He couldn't help but laugh when she saw this.

After having dinner at home, she returned to the riverbank, where the salvage team had also finished their rest and resumed their work.

The three men fell silent after looking at the piles of garbage they had dredged up. There was just too much stuff in the river; how long would it take to collect it all?

Turning to look at Qi Yang, who seemed a little pale, Su He asked with concern, "Are you alright?"

Qi Yang shook his head, feeling a bit nauseous from the stench of the garbage, but he managed to hold it in.

I just didn't dare get too close.

Su He was relieved to see that he was alright, and then sighed, "This is really a huge project. I wonder when we'll see any results."

"How many days did you apply to your superiors?"

"Ten days. We've been given ten days. If we still can't find it, then we'll have to give up."

The others listened in silence for a moment, then sighed, "Don't think about it anymore, and don't rush it. You'll get something out of it eventually."

"I hope so."

Hearing that Su He was nearby, her family brought their two children to visit her after waking up from their afternoon nap.

People would occasionally come over to watch the spectacle, but once they saw that the group was actually cleaning up the trash, they lost interest.

Seeing so much trash being cleaned up was quite astonishing. It was unexpected that such a clear river could contain so much garbage, including pots and pans, tattered clothes, and worn-out shoes.

It was quite frightening to see; so much garbage must have been very dirty. Luckily, no one drank the water directly from the river. Some people who had caught fish in the river earlier didn't want to catch any more because it was too dirty and they didn't want to eat them.

The salvage operation continued until evening, by which time there were hardly any people around, and Grandma Su and the others had left.

Seeing that there was little to show for it, Su He decided to tell the salvage team to call it a day.

After all, they didn't expect to make a profit on the first day.

Just then, a gasp came from the salvage team.

"There's someone here! There's a body!"

What?

Su He and the others were taken aback, and quickly walked towards the river...
