Chapter 17: Enemies Meet Again (Part 2)

But then again, in a place like this with long grass, water, and black mud, besides small fish and loaches, there might also be snakes: "Tell me, are there snakes in this ditch? What should I do if I encounter a snake?"

Wang Yanzhou replied while searching for his dinner: "Look at the environment, there must be snakes. If you see one, remember to shout loudly."

Tang Chen looked at Wang Yanzhou, who was still looking for things seriously even though he expressed resistance with his words and body, and his sudden concern for him, and suddenly felt at a loss.

Wang Yanzhou heard no movement behind him and thought Tang Chen was in trouble. Turning back, he saw only a fool standing in the water, lost in thought. Shaking his head helplessly, he returned to his work, adding, "...In that case, I can run."

Tang Chen was stunned, his face darkening. Would he die if he didn't argue? Did he dare to leave a good impression on her? Tang Chen was too bored to bother with Wang Yanzhou anymore, so he simply walked away from him.

Before Tang Chen could find something to eat and tease Wang Yanzhou, something suddenly slithered past her calf. At first, she thought it was just grass, not paying much attention until it began to tentatively circle around her. When she suddenly felt something smooth and scaly, she didn't dare move, only subconsciously yelling, "Holy crap! Snake! The boss has a snake!"

Before she could finish her cry, Wang Yanzhou, who had been standing quite a distance away, suddenly appeared beside her like a ghost. With a quick glance and a flick of his hand, Wang Yanzhou had grasped a small water snake, over a meter long, by its seven inches.

Wang Yanzhou looked at Tang Chen, who was trembling with fear, with disdain. He grabbed the snake with one hand and held Tang Chen's waist with the other hand, pulled her out of the mud ditch, carried her on his shoulders, packed her up and brought her ashore.

"Even though we didn't catch any small fish or frogs, it wasn't a loss. Looks like we'll be able to have barbecue soon."

Tang Chen sat by the puddle he had dug earlier and washed his feet while asking, "Will this thing taste good when grilled? It looks so disgusting and slippery."

Wang Yanzhou suddenly smiled when he heard this, "If you don't want to eat, you can just watch me eat." It just so happened that if he ate alone, this little thing would barely be enough.

“…”

Based on the principle of not letting the little bitch get away with it and not letting himself go hungry, Tang Chen did not generously give his share of meat to Wang Yanzhou.

How should I put it? This was her first time eating snake meat, and Wang Yanzhou didn't add any salt when he grilled it, so the taste was very bland. Although there was meat on it, there were a lot of bones, making it difficult to eat. It was at this moment that Tang Chen thought Bear Grylls might be a liar. It was crunchy, but it tasted like chicken. Whose chicken tasted like this?

Looking at Wang Yanzhou again, Tang Chen sometimes even suspected that he had no sense of taste. It seemed that no matter what was edible, he would accept it and was not picky at all. No wonder he was so tall and strong, he had such a good appetite.

...After barely filling their stomachs, the two men fed mosquitoes by the ditch for a whole night before setting out again to look for human habitation.

In fact, according to the route planned by Wang Yanzhou at the beginning, they would not have to fall into such a state of having nothing to eat, mainly because of Tang Chen.

If she hadn't been like a little brat who had never seen the world, running around chasing a swallowtail butterfly without even saying hello, by the time Wang Yanzhou caught up with her, the two of them would not have strayed from the main road and gotten lost in the mountains.

Fortunately, Wang Yanzhou could tell the directions clearly. After seeing the starry sky at night, he planned his route again.

Therefore, Wang Yanzhou's dissatisfaction and disgust with Tang Chen along the way can be said to be as turbulent as the waves of the river.

Although Tang Chen also argued with him, she was ultimately in the wrong, so it was really just talk. Furthermore, Wang Yanzhou often shut her up the moment she opened her mouth.

As for Tang Chen, she was most afraid of a few types of animals: soft, furry, leggy mollusks, snake-like creatures, and large animals that could threaten her life. It was no exaggeration to say that Wang Yanzhou had never met a woman as frightened and clamorous as Tang Chen in his entire life.

Wang Yanzhou, who had previously chosen to remain silent in the face of Tang Chen's sudden surprises, finally exploded after she howled like a ghost over a small caterpillar: "You've been making a fuss all the way here. You screamed when you saw a snake, you screamed when you saw a leech, and now you're screaming when you see a little caterpillar. Do you know how to do anything else besides screaming?"

After being yelled at, Tang Chen subconsciously replied, "You'll still run away..."

Wang Yanzhou raised his head, closed his eyes, and patted his forehead: "... Really, it's useless."

Tang Chen retorted, "Everyone is afraid of something, okay? People like the Yue OP are afraid of moths."

Wang Yanzhou "educated" him, "He is the owner of the first floor, what about you? When the agreed time is over, you are alone and can't even solve these small matters. How are you going to survive?"

"I..." I'm not completely useless, but what I know is almost useless here. As the old saying goes, master math, physics, and chemistry, and you'll be fearless anywhere. But the problem is, she's a liberal arts student who gets dizzy when she sees numbers and nearly died on advanced math! If she could survive on her own, who would want to cling to him like a fool?

Tang Chen's momentary silence made Wang Yanzhou suddenly realize that he seemed to be too harsh and disdainful of her recently...

The two of them stood face to face on the mountain path, somewhat awkwardly.
