Chapter 171 Negotiation (I)

The shouting inside the house faded and died away. One of the two midwives was watching over the baby while she cut the umbilical cord, while the other hurriedly washed her hands, ran out with a smile, and congratulated them, "Congratulations, mother and daughter are safe, mother and daughter are safe!"

"Great, Ah Chen, go tell your parents-in-law right now," he said, and before everyone else could finish their congratulations, Chen Xin stuffed a huge red envelope into the midwife's mouth and rushed to the delivery room, eager to see his wife, who had come back from a near-death experience, and the newborn. Then, as expected, he was kicked out by the people inside.

Tang Chen patted the melancholy-looking Shen Xin and said, "...We'll have to wait a while to see him. There's no rush. Let's go tell the two elders about this good news together."

The two elders who were anxiously waiting for news in the guest room saw Tang Chen and Shen Xin trotting over happily and walked to the door. "Is it born? How is Shuyi? Is she okay?"

Tang Chen bowed to the two elders and announced the good news: "Mother and daughter are safe. Congratulations to godfather and godmother for becoming grandparents."

Upon hearing this, Madam Liang patted her chest lightly and breathed a sigh of relief: "As long as you are safe, as long as you are safe."

Duke Liang hurriedly took out the booklet he had prepared on the table early in the morning, and then called Chen Xin into the house: "Come, come, son-in-law, I have thought of many names, take a look at which one is good!"

Chen Xin said excitedly: "Coincidentally, I also prepared a few early in the morning!"

The next morning, everyone who had been waiting all night finally saw the elf that was born with the snow last night.

Tang Chen sat on the bed, looking down at the baby sleeping with eyes closed in Liang Shuyi's arms. He gently poked her rosy little face with his hand and said, "Wow, this baby is so cute!"

Liang Shuyi smiled, but said, "You're lying with your eyes open. It's wrinkled. There's a lot of white stuff on your face, I don't know what it is, it's ugly."

Although she said disdain, the smile and tenderness in her eyes could not be hidden. Mrs. Liang disagreed when she heard this. She thought her granddaughter was very beautiful. "Wasn't you like this when you were a child? This thing is brought from the mother's womb and will disappear on its own after a while. Don't get rid of it just because it's ugly. Children are weak, and these are all good things."

Tang Chen had heard about this before. The white, dead skin-like substance on a newborn's face seemed to be a protective film. "Wow, my godmother knows so much!"

Madam Liang smiled and said, "You are just children, right? By the way, have you packed up the purple river placenta?"

While looking at his wife and daughter happily, Shen Xin replied, "It's all packed up and taken out for processing."

Tang Chen had no idea how they were going to deal with it, but he'd heard stories from the elders: in some places, the placenta was buried under the house where the child was born, supposedly to ensure the child's health. Don't tell me, just thinking about it made him a little uncomfortable.

Tang Chen tried to hold the baby several times, but he had no experience. He was like a wooden man holding the child in his arms, afraid to move, for fear of bumping or dropping the little baby. After just a few minutes, his arms were sore that he had to hand it over to Chen Xin. Even though Chen Xin was a first-time father, his holding technique looked very authentic, as if he had learned it before.

Everyone was chatting in low voices in this warm room. After a while, the child would just move his hands and feet. The rest of the time, he basically fell asleep after eating.

"Why does she fall asleep all day long? I want to play with her!"

Mrs. Liang covered her mouth and laughed, "She's only a few days old, and you're already thinking about playing with her."

Tang Chen replied, "It's because I, as her godmother, love her so much." Actually, there was something Tang Chen didn't dare say, fearing a beating. If children couldn't play, then having children was meaningless.

Black Crow then joked, "If you like, why don't you just have one yourself?"

Since even Black Crow had joined the birth promotion team, in order to avoid the topic going off track, Tang Chen quickly turned around and asked:

"By the way, Shuyi, have you thought of a name for Bao'er?"

Liang Shuyi looked at Chen Xin and said, "Since she was born on a snowy day, her nickname will be Liang Xueer. As for her full name, we discussed it and decided to call her Chen Yinshuang. Yin means singing, and Shuang means proud of the snow and frost."

When Tang Chen returned to the room, he saw Wang Yanzhou holding a book but staring out the window. He didn't know what was wrong. Tang Chen took off his cloak and placed it next to the charcoal basin. He poured a cup of hot tea and brought it over. He also took the book from Wang Yanzhou's hand that was about to fall to the ground and said, "I see you've been unhappy these past few days. Is there something on your mind?"

Wang Yanzhou came back to his senses and gently hugged Tang Chen: "I have never seen a woman give birth before, but now that I have seen it, I am really scared."

Tang Chen smiled and said, "Hey, I thought something was wrong. Let alone you, I'm scared too. Anyone would be scared."

Wang Yanzhou closed his eyes and shook his head. He sighed and said, "You don't understand," and then he said nothing more. Tang Chen still looked confused and let him hold her.

It was just after New Year's Eve, and Tang Chen's birthday gifts and holiday gifts had filled up her small warehouse. Looking at these piles of treasures, Tang Chen felt an unprecedented sense of security.

If I have a fight with Wang Yanzhou in the future, I will be confident enough to run away from home! I can also take out some more and decorate Chunzaitang well, and find some better calligraphy and painting stationery to put in the store!

A few days after celebrating New Year's Eve in Qingliang Valley, Xiaoxue'er's full-moon celebration arrived. After a day of lively fun, the Duke of Liang and his wife finally set out on their journey home. They didn't want to leave, but they had to contend with Emperor Gan Zhao. They'd already celebrated New Year's Eve here, and back then, they could have justified it for their daughter and granddaughter's sake. Now that the child was a month old, staying any longer would be bad for everyone.

The snow outside hadn't melted yet, and the wind still brought a chill. Tang Chen would run to play with the child whenever he had time, watching her grow up little by little. He couldn't get enough of her adorable appearance.

Wang Yanzhou was sitting in his study as usual, looking at the account books, intelligence, and greeting letters that had been sent in from all over the place. Suddenly, a small sound was heard outside the window, and a crossbow arrow carrying a letter was firmly embedded in the wall.

By the time Wang Yanzhou ran outside, the messenger had already vanished. After donning deerskin gloves and taking all necessary precautions, he carefully removed the letter. The message was simple: someone had invited him to meet Lin Qinghui at his thatched cottage.
