Chapter 42: Unexpected

When Dong Lin heard the child's cry, she was a little bit skeptical. Just when she was about to scold Dong Minghui for talking nonsense, she saw Tang Chen standing at the door with a serious expression. Dong Lin's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly forced a smile and dragged Dong Minghui over. "Oh, the child is ignorant, please don't blame me, please come in!"

After they entered the house, Dong Lin yelled towards the inner room, "A Yuan, you damned girl, hurry up and serve the tea!"

“Come, come!”

When Tang Chen took the teacup from the little girl, she inadvertently glanced at her hands, which were frozen as hard as radishes. The little girl seemed to have noticed her gaze and quickly hid her hands in her short sleeves, blushing and running away with her head down.

Tang Chen knew that employing child labor was illegal, but this time, she really couldn't say anything. Tea was served, and the person she was supposed to meet had been met. It was time to get down to business. "Ahem, I won't beat around the bush. Do you have any other children at home?"

Dong Lin looked down at her Minghui and explained with some confusion, "Besides my son, there's Ayuan. There are only two of them. Why are you asking about this, young lady? Did someone spread rumors that my son was naughty?"

"That's not the case..." Tang Chen didn't know if he had clicked the wrong tech tree. Before she could react, he blurted out the reason for his visit: "Lord Wang asked me to collect household registration information. Well, now that we have it cleared, we won't bother you anymore."

After leaving Dong's house, Tang Chen tore up the paper on which he had written the address. "I don't think it's possible. What do you think?"

Lian Qiao agreed with Tang Chen's idea: "I don't think so either. Let's go find Aunt Zhang first to find out more about the situation. For example, if the child had any tokens or marks on him when he was lost."

After asking Aunt Zhang for details about the child, the results were somewhat disappointing. Aside from the clothes the child was wearing that day, there was no other evidence. Aunt Zhang's child also had no telltale birthmarks. Therefore, whether the Dong family's child was actually real or not remained open to question.

Aunt Zhang vaguely sensed something from Tang Chen's eyes: "Did you find any clues?"

After thinking for a moment, Tang Chen decided not to hide it from her. If it was finally confirmed that the naughty child was Aunt Zhang's lost son, they would accept it. At most, they would discipline him properly in the future. It has been eight years. I just hope that this winter, there will be a heartwarming ending: "...Yes, do you want to go and see it?"

"good!"

Aunt Zhang only glanced at Dong Minghui from a distance, who was hiding behind the adults, peeking and making faces at them. Before anyone could step forward to ask, Aunt Zhang's eyes reddened and she shook her head slightly: "No, it's not him..."

"...Then let's go."

Just as Tang Chen and his companions were about to leave, A Yuan ran out of the house: "Mom, brother, the meal is ready, you can eat now." After saying that, the child turned around and went back to the room to set the table like a servant.

After Dong Lin glared at A Yuan fiercely, she turned around and looked at Tang Chen with a smile: "How about everyone stay and have a simple meal?"

"No, sorry for disturbing you. Goodbye."

"Don't bother me, don't bother me. Then I won't see you off."

That day, Aunt Zhang packed up her things and asked Wang Yanzhou to take her away. A few days later, Dong Minghui heard a rumor from somewhere, saying that his father had brought him back from the mountains. Although the child didn't care on the surface, he still had a question in his heart: "Mom!"

Seeing Dong Minghui's eyes were red from crying, Dong Lin hugged him distressedly and said, "Oh, my dear, what happened? Did that little bitch bully you again?"

Dong Minghui sobbed and explained, "My sister didn't bully me. Mom, people outside said that you picked me up!"

Dong Lin was immediately anxious when she heard this: "Which bastard said that? I carried you for ten months and gave birth to you! But your sister is just a piece of trash that your father picked up and lost money!"

...After Aunt Zhang left, Tang Chen asked Lian Qiao to pass a message to Zhang Xiaohua, asking her to keep an eye on it when she had some free time. And so, this page was turned.

On New Year's Eve, the heavy snow that Tang Chen had been longing for finally arrived, though belatedly, but it had finally fulfilled her wish. Outside the window, the bamboos bent by the snow occasionally clunked, their snow falling. Gu Liang, standing in the porch, reached out to catch a feather-like snowflake, her face beaming with joy: "It's snowing."

Wang Yanzhou stood beside her with a cup of hot tea, looking at the vast white and peaceful world, and sighed: "Auspicious snow indicates a good harvest. I think the next year will be a peaceful year."

While admiring the snow, Tang Chen inadvertently caught a glimpse of a fiery red plum blossom, which was over the wall of the courtyard and blooming brilliantly in the wind and snow. "Boss, can you find any red plum blossoms here?"

"Your yard is full of them, don't you see?"

Tang Chen shook his head: "I want to plant one myself."

When the snow stopped, Tang Chen took a shovel and a thin plum blossom, dug a hole in the small courtyard in front of Wang Yanzhou's door, and carefully planted it.

Looking at the plum tree with only a few buds, Tang Chen put down the shovel in his hand and slowly closed his eyes. He clasped his hands together, and I don't know what kind of wish he made to this small sapling.

The moment she closed her eyes, Tang Chen seemed to see the red plum tree that her father planted for her on her eighteenth birthday. This year, it was still blooming vigorously in the cold wind.

Tang Chen opened his eyes and glanced at the delicate sapling, then turned to look at Wang Yanzhou: "Boss, do you think it will bloom next year?"

"nature."

After hearing Wang Yanzhou's words, Tang Chen smiled, turned back, and gently touched the tiny bud with his hand: "Actually, I also think that people should be like this red plum. Look at her, even in the cold winter, she still lives a flourishing and vigorous life."

It was rare for Wang Yanzhou to hear her say such touching words, so he unconsciously said a few more words on the topic, just to give her face.

The two of them stood in the snow, chatting, when Tang Chen suddenly realized a very serious question: "Boss, have you noticed that you seem to have never called me by my name seriously?"

Wang Yanzhou raised his chin slightly: "...Now that you put it that way, it's true."

"Why don't you join everyone and call me Xiao Tang or Achen?"

Under the gaze of Tang Chen's eyes filled with expectation, Wang Yanzhou raised his eyebrows slightly: "When I call you without your name, don't you know that I am calling you? It's good this way now, it saves trouble."

Tang Chen didn't know whether it was because she was too deeply moved by the plum blossom incident this time, she didn't even realize that Wang Yanzhou was teasing her. She explained seriously: "I'm afraid that if you sell me one day, I won't be able to see you anymore. If you don't call me by my name, it will be easy for you to forget me."
