Soon, the Orphan Kingdom's 50,000-strong army arrived at the border, preparing to cross and launch a full-scale attack on Sumatra.
However, Ma Sanbao had already deployed a thousand soldiers to the border.
They took up advantageous positions and then set up their rapid-fire muskets, or machine guns for short.
Then, with all sorts of small bombs and rocket launchers ready—some shoulder-mounted, some mounted—Ma Sanbao naturally revealed a smug smile and said:
"Given this geographical location, these weapons, and this position, let alone 50,000 men, even 100,000 men would be driven back by him."
The general on the other side didn't dare to say a word, he just stood silently to the side.
The moment the soldiers of the Orphanage crossed the border, and Ma Sanbao gave the order to attack, the once quiet island was suddenly filled with artillery fire and gunfire.
A series of crackling and rumbling sounds rang out, scaring the soldiers of the Orphanage into fleeing in terror.
They had never heard such a loud noise before. Even thunder couldn't compare.
In that instant, it was as if dozens of thunderclaps rang out one after another between heaven and earth. Immediately afterwards, many of the soldiers from the Orphanage fell to the ground and died without warning, leaving the soldiers around them completely bewildered.
They didn't even understand how their companion next to them had fallen.
Immediately afterwards, they saw what appeared to be a hole in their companion's body, from which blood was continuously flowing.
Or, a series of loud booms would sound, and something in the sky would suddenly fall from a distance, then explode with a deafening roar, blasting more than ten people within a radius of two zhang away, none of whom would escape unscathed.
In severe cases, the body is completely shattered; in milder cases, limbs are severed, leaving only a breath of life.
Such a scene completely terrified the soldiers of that strange country. Who the hell had ever seen anything like this before?
Isn't that a bit too exaggerated?
Although they were soldiers, even the most brutal scenes were nothing more than fighting back and forth on the battlefield with long swords or spears. All of this was within their understanding and there was nothing frightening about it.
After all, they are all veterans.
But right now, the enemy is nowhere to be seen, yet teammates are inexplicably dying.
And we don't know what kind of weapon unleashed such terrifying power?
It made them feel as if they were being attacked by a god, something completely beyond their comprehension.
In this way, the orphanage's army of 50,000 suffered countless casualties. In just a few breaths, several thousand people fell into pools of blood, dying without knowing why.
The general of the orphanage was also terrified. He had never seen such a scene before and could only frantically give orders to charge.
They didn't know what was going on, but they felt that perhaps if they left this area, they would be safe.
Unfortunately, they were wrong. As they charged forward and got closer to the Ming soldiers, they were targeted more and more accurately.
If one or two bullets might kill a person in the past, now, with the distance getting closer, almost one bullet can eliminate a person.
Moreover, the artillery fire was more accurate, dropping bombs into crowds of people every time.
As a result, by the time the soldiers got closer, countless more had been killed or wounded; nearly ten thousand had fallen so far.
Many of the remaining soldiers were wounded, while the uninjured ones were terrified.
Most of them were hesitant to charge forward, because they found that the further they rushed, the more accurate and intense the attacks from these inexplicable weapons became.
The general from the orphanage, who was in charge, also realized this problem, and so he gave an order:
"retreat."
The soldiers retreated one after another, thinking that things would be better if they just retreated.
Unfortunately, they exposed their backs to those cannons and guns, and it's easy to imagine that their fate would only be worse.
Moreover, even if they were to run backwards, they would still need to cover a certain distance, and that distance would be long enough for them to lose even more people while they were running out of the danger zone.
And so they ran, constantly sacrificing themselves, and so far, they still don't even know what happened.
By the time most of their soldiers had escaped the range of the Ming soldiers' attacks, nearly 20,000 to 30,000 soldiers had already been wiped out.
The original 50,000 people have now been reduced to half, and the other half have been driven to mental breakdown by fear.
At this moment, the remaining soldiers of the orphanage were in complete disarray, their faces filled with fear and their bodies trembling, as if they had just escaped from hell.
Not only the soldiers, but also the generals, the general of the orphanage had taken off his armor and even thrown away his weapon.
He felt fear, frustration, and anger; he wanted to explode.
But then you don't know who to vent your anger on.
The soldiers behind him were cowards, but wasn't he even more cowardly? He had no face to say anything, so he could only take a deep breath, turn around sadly, and leave with his soldiers.
After leaving, he vowed never to ever go near Sumatra again.
After all the soldiers had left.
The Sumatran generals and soldiers immediately cheered and looked at Ma Sanbao and the more than one thousand Ming soldiers with admiration.
