Chapter 149

"Why are you talking so much?" Luo Shenyuan put her on the bed. "Just take good care of your injuries and don't move for the next few days, okay?"

"Okay." She naturally agreed to him.

"If you encounter any trouble, you can tell me." Luo Shenyuan suddenly said, "Now I am your husband, I can help you solve any problem."

She ate a lot of hot peppers, which she didn't like, but she always avoided the steamed pork with rice flour that she loved. She never used her chopsticks to pick up anything other than the hot peppers, simply because that was the one closest to her. She must have something on her mind.

"Nothing." Yining said, "I'm just a little tired from watching the show."

By the time they went to bed that night, the candles outside had gone out, leaving only moonlight filtering through the window paper. Yining looked at the bed curtains and the string hangings at the corners. She thought for a long time before turning sideways and raising her head. "Third brother, are you... familiar with Lu Jiaxue?"

Luo Shenyuan slept on the outside, with a foot of space between them. He opened his eyes and asked, "What's wrong?"

Yi Ning continued, "It's nothing, I just think he's a terrible person..." She didn't want to implicate Luo Shenyuan. If she really did, she might go to Lu Jiaxue to beg for mercy.

"I know him very well." Luo Shenyuan closed his eyes again. "Don't think too much about it. You don't need to worry about these things."

Yi Ning lay down again. She reached out and took Luo Shenyuan's hand. Luo Shenyuan let her hold it, then turned his head to see that she had fallen asleep. He turned sideways and held her in his arms, so that she could sleep better.

She met Lu Jiaxue in Jude Village. What happened?

...could make her lose her mind like this.

The Ningyuan Marquisate wasn't a founding hero; rather, the Lu family's ancestors were granted the title of marquis for their outstanding military exploits in pacifying the Liao King. However, it was Lu Jiaxue who truly transformed the Ningyuan Marquisate into a prominent family. From defeating the Northern Yuan Dynasty to supporting the emperor's ascension to the throne, his remarkable military exploits made the Ningyuan Marquisate unparalleled in its prestige.

But Lu Jiaxue wasn't one for pleasure. The Ningyuan Marquis's mansion had never been expanded, and he only had the same number of maids and servants. In his early years, he'd been offered beauties, and he hadn't refused them all. These days, even beauties aren't offered, and the East Courtyard of the Ningyuan Marquis's mansion has become increasingly deserted.

Xie Min was invited by Lu Jiaxue's men to the main hall of the East Courtyard. It looked much the same as it had all those years ago. The privet tree at the entrance, the heavily guarded troops, reminded her of the time years ago when Lu Jiaxue entered the mansion, sword in hand. The overpowering, choking fragrance of the privet blossoms, the blood-drenched sword, and the sight of her husband's head rolling to her side.

Lu Jiaran probably never thought until his death that his younger brother had such a skill, that always smiling, shameless, and unlearned younger brother.

The knife in his hand chopped off his head mercilessly.

Lu Jiaxue knelt down with his sword in hand.

Blood splattered on the rosewood. Lord Ningyuan was still around at that time, trembling with anger. This cold-blooded, heartless creature! He had been lying dormant for years, just to get rid of his eldest brother! He wanted to kill him, and drew his sword to stab him. But Lu Jiaxue just smiled, swung his sword forward, and within a few moves, he subdued the old marquis. Those outside were all his people.

These scenes were all filled with the smell of blood. Xie Min clearly saw her husband's eyes wide open, and blood gushing out of his mouth.

So every time she approached this place, before she even did anything, her body would begin to tremble. Fear and anger, she was a woman in the inner chamber, and no matter how resourceful she was, she couldn't bear to see her husband beheaded in front of her. She didn't go crazy, so her willpower was strong.

Lu Jiaxue rarely saw her unless he wanted to get something from her, and then he would see her here. Here her emotions were the most unstable and she was most easily angered by him.

Xie Min walked up the steps and saw Lu Jiaxue sitting in the hall, flanked by his personal guards.

Xie Min noticed that Lu Jiaxue was not in the right state. Unlike his usual relaxed aura, the room was tense and suffocating. Several housekeepers were silent with their hands hanging down. He slowly put down his things, looked up at her, and said, "Since you are here, please sit down, sister-in-law."

Xie Yun held the knife in her sleeve, her face tense. "What are you going to do now?" Her tone was filled with cold disgust. "I don't have what you want anymore—"

"I know." Lu Jiaxue said, "I heard that my sister-in-law went to Judezhuang for tea today, right?"

Xie Min's eyes flickered when she heard him say that. What did he want to say?

"I hope it's alright for you to listen to the opera." Xie Min asked the maid to hold her hand and walked in front of Lu Jiaxue. "If that's all you ask, I'm afraid I can't accompany you."

"Do you know why I killed Lu Jiaran but not you?" Lu Jiaxue suddenly said behind her.

Xie Min didn't look back. She stared at the dark night with her eyes open. The sky was like a huge black eye, numb and painful, as if drowning.

"Lu Jiaran doesn't love you, and he won't feel anything if you die. What he values most is his power, so I'm taking it away from him. But if I kill you, it will just be the perfect opportunity for you to die with him. You're such a loyal person, so I just want you to live, so you know how hard it is to live alone. I'll torture you slowly until you die."

Xie Min squeezed the maid's hand, turned around, and suddenly walked up to him, almost hysterical: "You lunatic! I live to see your retribution, you cold-blooded beast! You killed your brother and your wife. Sooner or later, you will get your retribution!"

Lu Jiaxue sneered, "Sister-in-law, you can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want. My brother was killed by thieves, and my wife was killed by you."

"You know how much I value her. You're so smart, can't you see that marrying her was all my plan? She's the only one who doesn't understand. I was competing with Lu Jiaran, and you invited her out for an outing. Aren't you just trying to use her to threaten me? When I arrived, your maid pushed her off the cliff—I beat that maid to death! I cut her into pieces and fed her to the dogs, but she'll never come back."
