"Thank you for your concern. I won't die early." Yi Ning couldn't help but say sarcastically, "How can a fortune teller's predictions be wrong? Otherwise, how would you pay the money?"
Lu Jiaxue smiled again and sent someone in to bring her breakfast: preserved vegetable pancakes, a plate of crystal dumplings, and a pot of soy milk.
Luo Yining hadn't eaten properly in the past few days. She was so anxious that she couldn't eat. But she couldn't not eat, otherwise Lu Jiaxue would feed her himself, which made her terrified. Luo Yining ate two dumplings and half a bowl of soy milk and stopped eating. Lu Jiaxue saw her appetite and raised an eyebrow: "Are you really full?"
After that, he was about to hug her and touch her belly. Luo Yining quickly dodged. When she was at home, Luo Shenyuan also forced her to eat more. She was obviously a fat girl who could eat a lot when she was young, but how come she grew up to be a delicate flower? Luo Shenyuan was not satisfied and forced her to eat twice the amount. Luo Yining didn't know it either. She wanted to eat the food very much when she saw it, but if she ate a little more, her throat would be blocked and she wanted to vomit. She didn't want to torture herself like this. She said her usual words unconsciously: "I really can't eat anymore, Third Brother!"
Lu Jiaxue was stunned.
The carriage suddenly became quiet again.
Luo Yining said after a moment: "My brother and mother often ask me to eat more." She was afraid that she would implicate Luo Shenyuan again.
I cursed myself inwardly, thinking that I had become comfortable and at peace, and that I was getting worse and worse. How come I had lost even a little bit of vigilance?
Lu Jiaxue suddenly approached her and said, "Luckily he is your third brother. If it was anyone else, I wouldn't have stayed. Do you know that?"
Luo Yining turned his head to look outside the carriage. The late autumn morning was still cold, and the fields were planted with ripe corn. Lu Jiaxue's personality was too domineering, so it was best not to talk to him. Too much talk will lead to mistakes.
Lu Jiaxue leaned back and looked at her: "When I get home tonight, I'll sleep in your room."
The meaning is obvious, even frank.
Luo Yining turned around and looked at him coldly: "Lu Jiaxue!"
"I am your husband." Lu Jiaxue said again, "Whether you admit it or not, you and I have never divorced, and I have never divorced my wife. It is natural for you to sleep with your husband. Besides, are you so sure that your third brother will still want you? Maybe when you go back, you will see a divorce letter. If you come to me crying again then, I will not be so kind."
Luo Yining had long known that Lu Jiaxue looked down on Luo Shenyuan. He had no idea that Luo Shenyuan would be the only cabinet minister who could rival him.
Is he going to force his third brother to divorce her?
Luo Yining endured it for a moment and asked slowly, "How... did you threaten him?"
"His position as Minister of State came at a great risk," Lu Jiaxue snorted coldly. "I wonder if he'll be torn between you and his career. Since your third brother is willing to marry you, he must love you. It all depends on whether you can bear to put him in such a difficult position."
Sure enough, he was still implicated...
If she didn't want to implicate him, was she forced to divorce him? But Luo Yining refused to do that. This man had become part of her life, her flesh and blood. He was everything to her, the towering mountains and gentle streams of her life. In her previous life, she had only been with Lu Jiaxue for two years, but in this life, from a toddler chasing after him to become his wife, it had been a long time.
Luo Yining didn't dare to show that he cared too much about Luo Shenyuan. He sat in the carriage with a cold face and stopped talking to Lu Jiaxue.
It was getting light outside, and there was no need to walk in the night anymore, as the sheep-horn glass lamp went out.
Yining had originally thought Lu Jiaxue would take her to an alley, but unexpectedly, once they left the city and reached the suburbs, they found themselves at the gate of Daci Temple. The three characters "Daci Temple" were carved in large seal script on the boundary marker.
"I suddenly remembered that the first time I met you was at Daci Temple," Lu Jiaxue said. "Back then, you turned and ran away after seeing me. You've lived so long and haven't gotten smarter. Running away would be even more suspicious, don't you know?"
Luo Yining said, "You were discussing the assassination of the eldest prince with Daoyan. If I didn't run away, you would have killed me. It wasn't because I recognized you." She turned around and continued, "I'm not that stupid."
Lu Jiaxue smiled after hearing this, and despite her refusal, he took her hand and walked straight forward. He didn't want her to leave the scope of his supervision. With her personality, it was hard not to cause trouble.
A receptionist came forward immediately, ignoring Yi Ning, who was buried under her cloak, and respectfully led Lu Jiaxue to the back hall.
With autumn upon us, the mountain was chilly. The tung trees outside the rear hall were shedding leaves continuously, a layer falling as soon as they were swept. Yining climbed the steps, treading on the fallen leaves, and saw a courtyard with a plaque reading "Mountain Temple" hanging before him. An attendant knocked on the door, and the doorman, sweeping the floor, opened it with a broom and poked his head out. He had recently grown his hair, with short bangs.
As soon as the boy looked at the floor, he frowned and complained, "I have to sweep it again..."
As he spoke, he opened the paulownia door and waited for the uninvited guests to enter. As soon as Yi Ning entered, she saw a screen wall with the word "Zen" written in seal script. The yard was quiet, and in the corner stood a hoe and a straw raincoat. As Lu Jiaxue led her inside, Yi Ning quickly looked around.
This courtyard had only two entrances and was not very large, so there was no place to hide. The wall was too high for her to climb over. The wall of the backyard was lower, and once she climbed over it, she would be in the mountains and forests, with some messy bushes where she could hide.
But unless she was out of Lu Jiaxue's sight, she couldn't even go to the back mountain. As soon as she got a little further away, Lu Jiaxue would grab her and bring her back to him.
Yining thought to herself as she stepped into the house. A cotton mattress with calamus patterns was spread on the kang bed opposite.
A man sat on the opposite side, drinking water, and didn't even look up at the sound of the arrival of the guest. He was very handsome, but his skin was rather brown, and he wore a simple maroon-red tunic. If he were a young man, Gu Jingming would be inferior to him. But as a monk who had withdrawn from the world, his demeanor had an indescribable sense of abstinence.
