Chapter 158
When I arrived at Lin Hairu's place, she was discussing the affairs of the mansion with Aunt Guo.
Seeing Yi Ning, Lin Hairu pulled her to sit down and asked her, "I couldn't ask you yesterday, so I wanted to ask you today. Why have you been at Madam Yang's house for so long? You don't know, your father... even if the Second Master is angry, if your Third Brother hadn't stopped him, who knows what he would have said to you. I can't speak for you either, but the bed can't be left empty in the first month of marriage. This rule can't be broken."
Yining thought of Lu Jiaxue.
There was also Lu Jiaxue hanging like a dagger in her heart. She had returned, but she didn't know what Lu Jiaxue would do next, or how he would plot in the court.
"It's my fault. I played too much." Yining helped her organize the balls of yarn on the small table.
Lin Hairu didn't really blame her, she just didn't know what was going on between her and Luo Shenyuan. The sudden consummation of their marriage... Luo Shenyuan must have been upset. After all, seeing how thin she was, and thinking of Luo Shenyuan's stature, Lin Hairu couldn't bear it.
"Forget it, let's not talk about this. You have to go to the wedding with me on the fifth day of next month." Lin Hairu told her the interesting things that had happened in the past few days. "It's the fourth young master of the Cheng family, your cousin Cheng Lang, marrying Xie Yun. The news of this marriage has caused a stir in half of the capital. The Empress personally awarded the dowry, and the Emperor even sent someone to give Xie Yun a complete set of phoenix crowns and bridal robes. You didn't go with me to see it because you weren't at home. The crown is inlaid with countless sea pearls and gems. I was dazzled by it. It's almost as grand as when the princess got married. The people of the Cheng family walk with a breeze now."
Yining remembered that Xie Yun's wedding was very grand, with red makeup stretching for ten miles and a huge procession.
The fifth day of next month, that's less than ten days away. I didn't expect it to be so fast.
After a while, Aunt Qiao and Luo Yilian also came to pay their respects to Lin Hairu.
Aunt Qiao was in good spirits today, wearing a bright red, full-sleeved jacket and a silk flower the size of a wine glass in her hair. Sister-in-law Luo Yilian glanced at Yining and then looked away from the partition.
Aunt Guo was an honest person. When she saw Aunt Qiao coming, she immediately made way and waited for Aunt Qiao to sit down.
Seeing this, Yi Ning sighed inwardly. Concubine Guo still couldn't help herself up. She was raising Xuan-ge'er now, and she had never been sent to prison, so her status was definitely higher than Concubine Qiao's. Yet, she subconsciously gave way to Concubine Qiao, simply because she had grown accustomed to being submissive over the years.
Aunt Qiao sat down and covered her mouth with a handkerchief as she smiled, "I came to visit Madam today to tell you that our sister Lian'er's marriage has been settled."
Lin Hairu was a little surprised. Aunt Qiao actually found someone she was satisfied with?
Judging from Aunt Qiao's attitude, it seems that she is determined to make Luo Yilian marry a man of high rank.
Lin Hairu knew that Aunt Qiao's minimum standard for choosing a husband was a Jinshi degree. She wondered who had caught her eye.
She asked Luo Yilian to sit down as well and asked her, "Sister Lian, tell mother which family this marriage is for."
Luo Yilian was surprisingly reluctant, and said indifferently, "...when the proposer arrives, Mother will naturally find out."
When my sister-in-law was young, she would pretend to be weak and pathetic, but now that she's grown up, she's too lazy to pretend. Her melancholy all day, coupled with her slender figure and elegant demeanor, makes her quite stunning. With her looks, it's not necessarily impossible for her to marry into a wealthy family, but she certainly can't be the first wife, after all, she's a concubine's daughter.
Lin Hairu was frustrated and held her breath. She didn't bother to care about them anymore. As long as they didn't cause any trouble, it was fine. She could let them do whatever they wanted.
It was unknown when the man Luo Yilian had proposed to marry would show up, and Lin Hairu had waited for days for him to show up, but there was no sign of him. Nan'er, however, was able to walk, hobbling around the house in his small jacket, causing the maids to follow him carefully and guard him. Luo Shenyuan was always busy, leaving early and returning late, and since Lin Hairu, the housekeeper, was unavailable, Yining helped take care of Nan'er and brought him back to Xuanjing Hall to play.
Nan Ge'er was a little restrained in Xuan Jing Hall, and Yi Ning used some candy to tease him. The child also loved candy, and he nibbled on the sweet candy and took small, stumbling steps, chasing after Yi Ning, like a cute little tail.
Yining couldn't help but think of Ting'er. She wondered how he was doing in Tianjin. He might not be back until the New Year.
Luo Shenyuan came home early today, and little Nan'er ran to pull at his robe, and the melted sugar was all over it. He didn't like children very much, so he frowned and asked the maid to take him away.
Nan Ge'er called Yining "sister" in a wronged manner, and was at a loss as to what to do with the candy he wanted to give to Luo Shenyuan.
Luo Shenyuan turned around and asked, "What did he call you?"
Yining chuckled and said, "You keep busy. I have to take him back to his mother."
Seeing Yi Ning carrying the child out, Luo Shenyuan tapped his fingers lightly on the edge of the table. He didn't like children, but Yi Ning liked them very much.
In fact, Luo Shenyuan didn't want to have a child at all. If he had a child, Yi Ning would love that child wholeheartedly. He didn't feel uncomfortable at all, even if it was his child.
I'm really afraid that one day she'll find out... He's so scary that he doesn't even want anything that can divert her attention to exist.
When Yining sent Nan Ge'er back, he saw him sitting on the armchair and playing chess with him.
Luo Shenyuan was often distant and seemingly difficult to get along with. Having been so busy in the early days of their marriage, Yi Ning had recently begun observing his habits. He could go entire days without saying a word, if possible. He made few requests, making it easy for servants to serve him. Sometimes, communication was difficult, as he was a man of his word. He didn't like to explain many things, simply asking you to do as he said. He wouldn't make a mistake, but if you doubted him midway, he would remain silent.
Fortunately, Yi Ning could still tolerate his temper. Luo Shenyuan just had a strong desire for control, so she just had to do what he said.
