Yining couldn't hold back her tears.
She couldn't remember how long it had been since she had cried like this.
Ever since she died over twenty years ago, no matter how sad and angry she was, she couldn't cry. Maybe Xiao Yining felt wronged, or maybe she felt wronged too. Now, she couldn't stop crying.
Yi Ning kept thinking back to her past life, when it was snowing heavily and Lu Jiaxue had come to ask for her hand in marriage. She looked at him through the curtains, a tall, elegant young man with clear, gentle eyes that held a smile. Even if he didn't answer her grandmother's question, Yi Ning didn't think it was a big deal.
This is the person she will entrust her life to.
That's why she was sad, angry, and full of hatred for Lu Jiaxue's indifference. How could she not be sad? But the difficulties she faced day after day wore away her hatred, and also wore away the memories and guilt these people had for her.
Lin Hairu kept patting her back. The room was quiet. Xuezhi tiptoed over and brought a bowl of pear sweet water.
Through tearful eyes, Yi Ning looked at the people before her: Lin Hairu, Xuezhi, and Old Lady Luo. They all looked at her with concern. She gradually realized that she would never mention or think about those things again. They were now her family.
Mrs. Luo hugged her distressedly and whispered, "Meimei'er, grandma knows you've been wronged. Don't cry anymore."
Xuezhi took a little turtle out of the tank and brought it to her: "Sister, do you think this turtle is cute? Do you want to play with it?"
The tortoise curled up into a shell in her palm, with only the tip of its tail sticking out. Only when the snow branch poked its butt did it reluctantly poke its pointed little head out.
Seeing this, Yi Ning forced a smile, appreciating that they had bothered to cheer her up. Lin Hairu and Mrs. Luo breathed a sigh of relief when they saw that she had stopped crying.
Luo Chengzhang walked outside and heard the child's innocent laughter. The room was filled with laughter and seemed very lively.
He sighed and whispered to the maid to go in and pass the message.
When Mrs. Luo heard that he had arrived, her face turned cold and she asked Luo Chengzhang to wait for her in the main hall. She slowly walked out, holding Mrs. Xu's hand, and sat on the armchair and asked leisurely, "How do you plan to deal with this matter?"
Luo Chengzhang whispered, "I've already reprimanded Aunt Qiao. But Brother Xuan is still too young, so it's hard to say anything."
Mrs. Luo's expression brightened slightly. She pointed to a chair and asked Luo Chengzhang to sit across from her. "Xuan'er is young, and I don't really want you to argue with a child. But I still feel it's inappropriate for Xuan'er to be raised by Aunt Qiao. It would be better to let Xuan'er be registered under Hai Ru's name. Hai Ru is the principal wife and has no children, so she can just raise Xuan'er."
Luo Chengzhang became a little anxious when he heard this: "If it weren't for Lin's illiteracy and mercenary behavior, why would I let Aunt Qiao raise Xuan'er? Mother, Xuan'er must not follow Lin. He still needs to study in the future."
Mrs. Luo thought that Lin Hairu's temper was indeed difficult to change. She had chosen Lin Hairu to marry into the family because she was kind and had no ulterior motives. But on second thought, these were also Lin Hairu's shortcomings.
Mrs. Luo pondered for a moment and said, "It's fine for Aunt Qiao to raise Xuan'er, but he can't stay with her when he turns five. He still has to be registered under Hai Ru's name. At most, I can send a careful maid to take care of him."
Luo Chengzhang thought that this was the only way. He thought of Aunt Qiao pleading with him as she left, and Xuan'er crying pitifully. It was indeed too much to ask them to separate. But Xuan'er couldn't let Aunt Qiao keep him in his care any longer.
Luo Chengzhang looked into the inner room and said hesitantly, "Mother, is Yining okay?"
Mrs. Luo said coldly, "Yining is only seven years old. Last night she told me she would never be naughty again, yet you are wrongly accusing her. What do you think?"
Luo Chengzhang was silent for a moment, then took out a cloth tiger from his sleeve and said, "Yining probably doesn't want to see me either. I brought this for her. Please give it to her."
Old Mrs. Luo looked at the maid beside her, and the maid took the things and went into the inner room.
After a while, the maid came out and bowed, saying, "Seventh Miss doesn't want it. She asked Second Master to take it back."
A bitter smile appeared on Luo Chengzhang's lips. This girl still holds a grudge.
He felt extremely guilty, not only towards Yi Ning, but also towards Yi Ning's mother, Gu. He wished he could do something to make it up to Yi Ning, but unfortunately, the little girl was really hurt by him this time and didn't want to see him at all.
Old Mrs. Luo asked Mother Xu to send Luo Chengzhang away. She looked at her second son's back as he walked away, and made a silent decision in her heart.
She will die one day, and Yining cannot be left alone.
Can't let her be bullied.
Old Mrs. Luo closed her eyes, and she seemed to still see the child who looked like a teenager kneeling in front of her, with blood on his mouth and a gloomy and cold face.
I don't know if she is right to do this...
Old Mrs. Luo clenched the handkerchief in her hand.
A cold wind suddenly blew at night. Two red paper lanterns were hung under the eaves of the house at the end of the alley, emitting a warm red light.
The door creaked open and a carriage drove out.
The carriage had driven out of the house and was about to pass the alley when a figure suddenly appeared in front of them. The driver gasped in fear and pulled the reins. "Who's that? It's the middle of the night! Aren't you afraid of scaring anyone?"
The man whispered, "I also want to ask Mr. Luo San, what exactly are you planning to do by going out in the middle of the night?"
There was silence in the car, and then someone reached out and opened the curtain.
Cheng Lang stood tall and graceful in the moonlight, his clothes fluttering in the night wind. A faint smile appeared on his face, but his eyes held a slight chill.
