Chapter 27

"Sister Yi Yu, don't speak carelessly before making a final decision." Yining said softly.

She had given Luo Yiyu some advice, though out of personal consideration, but also to save her. It turned out Luo Yiyu wasn't grateful at all, and after learning the truth had leaked, she turned against her without hesitation, so her kindness was no use.

The more excited Yi Yu acted now, the greater the loss she would suffer later. Since she had done nothing wrong, Yi Ning believed she had nothing to fear.

Luo Yiyu sneered with tears on her cheeks, "You still don't admit it! If you didn't tell those two girls about this, who else could it be?"

Lin Hairu couldn't help but step forward and stand in front of Yining, saying, "Yining and I just got here and didn't even know what happened, but the Fourth Miss scolded us like crazy. Someone who didn't know would think we, Yining, had done something wrong. It's clearly you, Luo Yiyu, kneeling there. Why are you pointing fingers at Yining in every sentence?"

Yining saw the glittering gold hairpin inlaid with gems on Lin Hairu's head.

She knew that Lin Hairu wanted to protect her. She was just afraid that Lin Hairu would speak without thinking and cause a conflict with Chen.

After hearing what Lin Hairu said, Chen's face looked unhappy.

Chen's grandfather had been the president of the Hanlin Academy. When she married into the Luo family, she considered herself a lower-class marriage. Fortunately, Mr. Luo later prospered in his career, which was a bit of a comfort.

But she was extremely reluctant to become a sister-in-law with Lin, who was born in a merchant family. She usually did not associate with Lin. Chen always thought that she was a well-educated woman, so she would naturally "talk and laugh with great scholars and associate with ordinary people." Seeing that Lin Hairu actually spoke up for Yi Ning and was rude to Luo Yi Yu, she could not help but sneer and said, "Second sister-in-law, what are you saying? You come here without understanding the whole story, and you say that Yi Yu made a mistake. I didn't know there was such an elder who would say such harsh words to the younger generation."

Chen couldn't stand Lin Hairu, but how could Lin Hairu respect Chen?

Lin Hairu had always wondered, could she possibly earn a living just by reciting a few lines of sour poetry? Without gold and silver ingots, she wondered how arrogant Chen could be! She regarded money as dirt? Who could survive without it? How much dignity could Chen possess?

Lin Hairu refused to admit defeat and retorted, "If she hadn't made a mistake, would she have been punished by being made to kneel? I haven't heard anything. Could it be that I don't have the eyes to see!"

Chen was also unconvinced and opened her mouth to continue speaking.

Mrs. Luo saw that the two men had already started arguing before she could even get to the point. She slapped the small golden nanmu table and said coldly, "Shut up, both of you! What's more important, words or business? Can you tell the difference?"

The two of them stopped talking. Although they were still resentful, they didn't dare to argue anymore.

Chen knew that Luo Yiyu was the real culprit. If she acted too aggressively, she would only end up disliking the old lady, which would be a loss. Lin Hairu also understood that after dismissing all the maids, she still pushed the usually proud Luo Yiyu to this point. She must have made a serious mistake.

So when Mrs. Luo asked the two of them to sit down, Lin Hairu was still vaguely curious.

Mrs. Luo glanced at the two of them, then sighed deeply. She looked directly at Luo Yiyu and asked, "Do you know how big a mistake you've made?"

Luo Yiyu was speechless and whispered, "Grandma, I..."

From the moment Yi Ning entered, Luo Yi Yu started blaming her, seemingly oblivious to the magnitude of her fault. Old Mrs. Luo was already furious, and now, seeing her hesitating, she became even more furious. She snapped, "You have the nerve to do it, but not the nerve to say it!"

Chen's expression remained unchanged, but she was shocked in her heart.

Luo Yiyu is a girl after all, and it seems that Mrs. Luo is very angry for saying this to her.

Lin Hairu became even more curious. What on earth had Luo Yiyu done to make Old Madam Luo so angry?

Luo Yiyu was so frightened that tears kept flowing. She choked with dissatisfaction and said, "Grandma, I was wrong. But...but aren't you wrong? I grew up in Baoding, and everyone says I'm first-rate. Why do you insist on marrying me to Liu Jing? How can he compare to Second Young Master Cheng, and how can he be worthy of me! Second Young Master Cheng and I are in love, why don't you help us?"
