Chapter 4

After everyone had left, Yi Ning breathed a sigh of relief and asked Xuezhi to take off the gold necklace.

Old Mrs. Luo leaned against the pillow, saw her coming towards her, and raised her eyelids.

Yi Ning was a little curious: "Grandma, why didn't I notice that my third brother was left-handed before?"

Mrs. Luo gave her granddaughter a rather strange look and continued, "He wasn't born left-handed. His right hand was injured and wasn't as flexible as his left, so he worked hard to learn to write and eat with his left hand. He didn't practice well at first and suffered a lot, but now he can use his left hand just as well as his right."

Yi Ning was even more curious: "What kind of injury did he suffer?"

Old Mrs. Luo said slowly, "You really don't remember? When you were five years old, you were mischievously climbing up the beam to play. When you fell, it happened to be your third brother who caught you. He was only twelve at the time, and the small pair of scissors in your hand pierced his hand..."

"Your third brother was there to cushion your injury, so you didn't get hurt. But your third brother's right hand isn't as flexible anymore. You cried so hard back then, no one dared to say a word to you."

Xiao Yining doesn't remember this at all.

Yi Ning was completely impressed by this little girl. Even so, she still treated Luo Shenyuan badly. No wonder he was so indifferent to her. It was conceivable that if Yi Ning really grew up successfully, she would probably have a bad relationship with the old man.

The maid brought a cup of tea for Mrs. Luo to moisten her throat.

Yining wanted to persuade the old lady not to punish Luo Shenyuan anymore, but how should she say this?

She couldn't possibly tell the old lady directly that the bastard you had punished by kneeling would actually become a powerful official in the future, with sway over the government and the country, and could make anything happen with a wave of his hand. So, for the sake of protecting the two of us from future revenge, it would be better not to punish him any further.

So Yi Ning thought for a long time, then coughed and said sincerely, "Grandma, it seems that my third brother is still very good to me. Why don't you not punish him..."

Mrs. Luo was stunned when she heard Yi Ning's words. Then she sighed lightly and asked, "Do you really think so?"

Old Mrs. Luo stared at her granddaughter, and for a moment, Yining even felt that she had seen through what he was thinking.

Yi Ning nodded firmly: "Yes, Third Brother treated me very well. You saw it, Grandma. If he hadn't saved me, I probably wouldn't have survived."

The maid brought up a plate of cleanly washed cherries. Old Mrs. Luo let her granddaughter eat the cherries before saying, "I've never liked your third brother. Don't say that Grandma is partial to you. It's just that your third brother is quite scheming and he's definitely not going to be a good person in the future."

What Old Lady Luo said was right. The things that Prime Minister Luo did later on were indeed not good.

The old lady wasn't someone who didn't understand things. She first thought of Luo Shenyuan's schemes and Yi Ning's accidental fall into the water. In short, the fight had all started in the inner chambers, and the tactics were obvious.

That's why she was so angry.

Luo Yining knew that wasn't the case. What happened that day had nothing to do with Luo Shenyuan. And how could someone who would later control the government and the country attack a little girl? He certainly wouldn't be so foolish.

At this moment, she suddenly felt a chill. If Xiao Yining was really dead, Luo Shenyuan would never be able to shake off the suspicion of murdering his younger sister.

Yi Ning continued, "I don't know if Third Brother is scheming or not. But I do know that you made him kneel for half a month even though I only had a high fever. If I really died, you don't know how you would punish him!"

Old Lady Luo also smiled and said, "Never mind. Making him kneel in the ancestral hall is just a warning to him. He is still responsible for this matter. After all, he is your eldest brother. Since Meimei doesn't think kneeling is necessary, then don't kneel."

After saying this, she instructed Madam Xu to send someone to the ancestral hall to report. Madam Xu returned a moment later with a report: "...I have a message saying that, considering the Third Young Master's past sincerity towards the Seventh Young Lady, the old lady will not punish him. The Third Young Master stood up and left without saying anything. The servants guarding the ancestral hall said that the Third Young Master came regularly every day and never complained."

After hearing this, Mrs. Luo nodded and asked Mrs. Xu to leave.

Mrs. Luo didn't want to talk about Luo Shenyuan anymore, so she asked Yining, "I see you didn't eat much at noon. Are you hungry now?"

Yining was naturally hungry.

However, when she saw the little girl's chubby face in the mirror, she felt that she should try to control herself.

Mrs. Luo, however, thought chubby girls were adorable, so she ordered lunch. Afterward, there was a bowl of rock sugar and white fungus soup. Desserts were placed in a five-compartment box. There were golden crab roe pastries, glutinous rice dumplings, and snow-white peach slices. The delicate and unique designs, layered one after another, each with a different color and shape, whetted one's appetite.

It seems that Mrs. Luo really feels that she has lost weight and wants to restore her granddaughter's double chin that she has lost in the past few days.

Yining ate until his belly was full, and after drinking a cup of melon tea, he didn't want to move at all.

After dinner, Chen brought her two sisters to see her, followed by Lin Hairu and Luo Yilian.

Aunt Qiao was a noble concubine, but no matter how high her status was, she could not always come to Old Madam Luo's place, so Luo Yilian always came to Old Madam Luo's place with Lin Hairu.

After sitting down, Luo Yilian took out a sachet and gave it to Yining, saying softly, "Seventh sister, there are lilies stuffed inside. I made it especially for you."

Xiao Yining has the same attitude towards her sister and Luo Shenyuan, being arrogant and domineering.

Luo Yilian, however, never disdained her and always showed her care and concern. Sometimes, when Yining picked on her, Yilian always endured it gently and tactfully. These things would eventually find their way to Luo Chengzhang's ears, and he would become even more doting on Yilian and even stricter with his legitimate daughter.
