Chapter 49

Luo Yihui wiped her fingers with the handkerchief she had used to wipe Yining's mouth. She asked calmly, "Is it Aunt Qiao who's here?"

As Yi Ning sat up straight, she looked up and saw Concubine Qiao bowing to Luo Yihui. She felt that her elder sister was simply extraordinary. Although a concubine's status was not as high as that of a young lady, which noble concubine would actually bow to a young lady? Judging from Concubine Qiao's skillful movements, she must have been accustomed to it.

Yi Ning replied, "Eldest sister, it's Aunt Qiao who's here."

Aunt Qiao maintained her greeting posture, saying nothing. Luo Yihui also spoke, and the main room was silent for a moment.

The maids all lowered their heads and dared not speak. Lin Hairu looked at Luo Yihui and Yining, wondering what kind of medicine the two sisters were selling.

"Mrs. Qiao is a noble concubine. She often feels unwell while serving father. Why bother with such a grand gesture?" Luo Yihui glanced at the maid beside her. "How can you be so tactless? Hurry up and bring a round stool for Mrs. Qiao."

All the maids in the room, big and small, were watching as Aunt Qiao paid her respects to Luo Yihui for a full quarter of an hour.

After Luo Yihui said that, a little maid brought a round stool to Aunt Qiao.

Aunt Qiao endured it again and again and thanked Luo Yihui gently.

Concubine Qiao had crossed Luo Yihui before, but it seemed like they'd never met with good results. She'd already decided to endure it, considering Luo Yihui was not only the eldest daughter but also the Crown Prince's wife. She wouldn't stay in the Luo family much longer anyway. Having made up her mind, she calmed down, though her hand remained tightly clenched in her sleeve. After all, her status in the Second House was second only to Lin Hairu, and who else, besides Luo Yihui, dared to give her a hard time?

Luo Yihui touched her sister's head. The little girl knew what was going on.

She smiled and said, "Xuan Ge'er was born not long ago when I got married. I haven't seen him for a long time. Bring him here so I can have a look."

The girl carried Xuan Ge'er to Luo Yihui.

Xuan Ge'er was a stranger to Luo Yihui, but because she was pretty, he started playing with her. He giggled so much that he stumbled and almost fell off the stool.

Aunt Qiao couldn't help but stand up, as if she wanted to snatch Xuan'er back immediately.

Luo Yihui had already stabilized Xuan Ge'er's body. She glanced at her and said calmly, "What are you doing, Auntie? Don't you trust me?"

Aunt Qiao forced a smile: "How could I... not trust the young lady?"

"Why are you so startled? I'm Xuan'er's eldest sister. How could I let him get hurt in my hands?" Luo Yihui said calmly and continued to tease Xuan'er.

Aunt Qiao and Luo Yilian were both watching intently, not daring to lose their focus for a moment. Xuan Ge'er seemed to think that he had escaped danger and smiled even more happily.

After playing like this for a long time, a servant came over and told them that the second master was waiting for the eldest lady in the study.

Luo Yihui returned Xuan'er to Aunt Qiao. Xuan'er had a lot of fun playing with his strange elder sister and was a little reluctant to leave. Aunt Qiao, however, hugged Xuan'er and was about to leave with a sense of relief.

"Auntie, wait a minute." Luo Yihui stopped her and said, "Auntie is a smart person. Xuan'er is smart and cute. You can raise Xuan'er with him, and he will have a safe and stable future. If you think about other things, I'm afraid you won't be able to raise Xuan'er well. It's better for his mother to take care of him."

How could Luo Yihui have asked her to come just to pay her respects?

Aunt Qiao's back teeth were about to break. She was using Brother Xuan to threaten her?

She hugged Xuan Ge'er tightly: "I... know."

The weak spot of a snake is Xuan Ge'er.

If Aunt Qiao hadn't given birth to Xuan'er, and her status in the Second House hadn't been ordinary, with Luo Yihui's current means and status, she would have probably dealt with Aunt Qiao long ago. But using Xuan'er as a warning to her, she knew to be honest.

Luo Yilian seemed to feel humiliated as well. She bit her lip and retreated with her mother and brother.

"Meimei, you can go play at your mother's place now. I'll be back soon." Luo Yihui touched Yining's head.

Yining said "OK" obediently.

When Lin Hairu saw Luo Yihui leave, she whispered to Yining, "Your elder sister is really amazing. Look at Aunt Qiao's face just now, she looked so ugly!" Maybe because Luo Yihui made Aunt Qiao feel embarrassed, Lin Hairu's appetite was greatly increased, and she ate half a bowl of rice more.

She was not worried at all about what her eldest daughter was going to talk about. After dinner, she accompanied Yining to play dominoes on the Luohan bed.

Yining hadn't been feeling very energetic these days, and besides, she didn't really enjoy playing; she'd get sleepy after a while. She'd been dozing off against the small table, wanting to wait for her older sister to come back, but children just love to sleep. Now that she was growing taller, she'd become even more sleepy.

Lin Hairu asked the maid to bring her the bed sheets. Yining wrapped herself in the sheets as usual and fell asleep on the Luohan bed.

When Luo Yihui came back, the candles in the room had been lit, and Lin Hairu was talking quietly to Ruixiang.

Luo Yihui was also exhausted after a day of work. She asked the maid to help her sit down. Seeing her sister wrapped herself up like a silkworm cocoon, she was sleeping soundly. She couldn't help but laugh: "She used to like kicking the quilt when she slept, but now she likes to sleep wrapped up?"

Xuezhi said, "I don't know either. After the young lady fell into the water, she liked to sleep wrapped in a blanket."

This is just Yining's habit. She has liked to wrap herself in quilts since she was a child, so she can sleep soundly. She did not change it even after she got married.

Luo Yihui misunderstood what she had heard. She stared at her sister's sleeping profile for a moment, then asked Lin Hairu, "Tell me, Mother Zheng and Grandmother had a conversation that day, and then Grandmother died. So what did Mother Zheng say?"

Lin Hairu sighed, "We don't know, but before the old lady left, she only spoke to one person. She also sent us all out. The person who spoke was Luo Shenyuan, Yining's third brother."

Before leaving, her grandmother had actually spoken to Luo Shenyuan. Luo Yihui pondered for a moment. No one knew her grandmother's attitude towards Luo Shenyuan better than she did. She wanted to meet him and see what he was planning. Unfortunately, Luo Shenyuan had gone to Dingzhou today and would not be back until tomorrow.

This third brother was not a worry-free character back then. He was too cruel and too indifferent to others.

She had just chatted with her father for a while. Luo Shenyuan was now a member of the Liyuan clan, and the second branch would definitely rely on him in the future. If he really wanted to do something, she probably wouldn't be able to stop him.

Does Yining believe that Luo Shenyuan is good to her?
