Yining woke up very early the next day and found herself lying in Luo Shenyuan's arms.
Being a wife is naturally different from before. Yi Ning quietly got up and asked the maid to wash and dress her, and then prepare the food for him to eat. But when she finished, he still hadn't gotten up, so Yi Ning walked over and sat next to Luo Shenyuan, hesitating whether to wake him up now.
Even when he was asleep, his brows were furrowed, and the lines between his eyebrows were so thick that they could no longer be smoothed out. His eyebrows were very thick, his nose was straight, and his upper lip was thin and his lower lip was full. Yining looked at him for a while and found that his hands were outside. She wanted to put his bedding back on. But he woke up as soon as she touched him. Before she could react, he pulled her into his arms and turned over and pressed her down. His body was hot in the early morning, and then the lips she had seen just now pressed against hers.
Yi Ning stiffened for a moment, her mind swirling with the masculine scent that greeted her. Pressed into a teasing kiss, her nose was filled with the scent of Luo Shenyuan, his rough, hot lips pressing against hers. He pinched her waist and pressed his head against hers, the heat growing ever hotter.
It seemed as if he understood what it meant to be gifted, which made Yining feel a tingling sensation on his back.
Unexpectedly, he reacted after a while and suddenly let go.
Luo Shenyuan saw her clothes half-undressed for the first time, her skin whiter than snow. He closed her clothes. He had slept with her in his arms the previous night, and in the morning, when he was still half awake, his mind was not as clear as before, so he actually did such a dangerous thing. He stepped away from her: "Alright, get up quickly."
Yi Ning still didn't react: "Third brother..."
"Hmm?" He turned to look at her, his features very handsome. He was usually cold towards others, but just now he was so cold towards her. Seeing his focused gaze, Yi Ning blushed inexplicably, her heart skipping a beat. Then she calmed down a bit and said, "The food is probably cold. You should ask someone to cook it again."
He smiled, not knowing what he was thinking about, and then went out to give instructions to the servants.
When Luo Shenyuan changed into court robes and came out, he saw her leaning against a small table peeling pigeon eggs for him. She peeled four or five and placed them on a small blue and white porcelain plate. Each egg was as white as jade.
She sat cross-legged, her upper body straight. The late autumn sun shone down on her. She was wearing a silk jacket, a royal blue silk jacket with a floral pattern. Pearl was beside her, serving her with a small bowl.
The maids and servants in the room all knew what had just happened, and the atmosphere was a little awkward. Seeing how awkward they both were, Zhenzhu, Daimao, generously asked Yining, "...did the son-in-law really do it?" Only when Yining replied in the negative did she breathe a sigh of relief. Otherwise, she wouldn't be able to explain it to the British prince.
But Yi Ning herself was thinking, a man and a woman sleeping in the same bed, that could happen at any time. Even someone as calm as her third brother couldn't hold it back.
He wore the official uniform of a third-rank official: a crimson robe with a right-side lapel and a peacock cloud pattern patch. Yi Ning gestured for him to sit across from her, pushing a small plate toward him and asking him to eat his eggs. He picked up his chopsticks and began to eat. Yi Ning looked at him again. The future Prime Minister was eating the pigeon eggs she had peeled. What an honor... an honor.
Luo Shenyuan thought she wanted to eat it, so he peeled one and handed it to her lips.
Yining hesitated whether to use her hand or bite directly, and her hand moved closer. Without thinking too much, she lowered her head and bit his finger, taking it in a little, and the pigeon egg rolled out from his fingertip.
Luo Shenyuan withdrew his hand. Does this girl really think he is Liu Xiahui?
"The injury on your leg hasn't healed yet, so don't move around too much. Your mother has excused you from paying respects today, so just stay in your room and read." Luo Shenyuan instructed her, "Or practice the piano. I've also moved your piano here for you." She didn't bring it with her to the Duke of Ying's Mansion when she left.
Yining agreed with a smile, thinking that he was too nosy, and then asked the maid to escort him out of the room.
After seeing him off, she actually went to the piano room and practiced for a while, but her heart was in turmoil. Thinking of Lu Jiaxue's suspicions about her, and wondering what he was up to, she couldn't calm down. She simply stopped and asked Zhenzhu to find some stationery. She wrote a letter to Wei Ling, asking him if he was still going to Xuanfu, and to let her know if there were any transfer orders.
Yi Ning remembered something and sat up, asking Zhenzhu to ask Chen Lian to come in. He was the only one who knew Lu Jiaxue best.
Although she really didn't want to ask Cheng Lang for help unless it was absolutely necessary.
Yining stared at the crabapple tree laden with fruits outside the window in a trance.

The imperial road to Daming Gate was flanked by Thousand-Step Corridors, with continuous eaves and ridges. Beyond them rose the vermilion palace walls. The palace walls were divided into east and west. The Ministry of Works was located within the Thousand-Step Corridor outside the east wall, along with five of the Six Ministries, the Imperial Clan Court, and the Imperial Observatory. Beyond the west wall lay the military offices of the Five Military Commanderies, the Ministry of Justice, the Censorate, and the Supreme Court. Luo Shenyuan's quarters were located in a courtyard just beyond the Thousand-Step Corridor, in a south-facing wing. Beyond lay the watchman's quarters, the windows propped open. Inside, a stove was burning, heating wine.
Gu Jingming drank some hot wine here.
Luo Shenyuan was reviewing official documents while calculating on an abacus with his other hand. His fingers were long and slender, and the sound of the abacus was crisp and sparse.
The aroma of wine wafted in waves, already scalding hot. Gu Jingming poured two cups and asked him, "Lord Luo, would you like a drink?"
Luo Shenyuan said without even looking up, "What kind of wine is there to drink in the government office? If you want to drink, go out and drink."
Luo Shenyuan's attitude towards official business was rigorous and serious, his focus undivided. Even so, it was tiring. Gu Jingming had been sitting here for half an hour without even noticing a moment's pause. How could a young minister not be under pressure? Furthermore, the Minister of Works was old and frail, and the other Minister of Works' position was temporarily vacant. There were two piles of paperwork on his desk, and he had no idea when he'd be able to finish reading them all.
After finishing one, he finally had some free time. He asked Gu Jingming, "What's the matter? Are you hiding here?"
