Chapter 2 Husband

Chapter 2 Husband

As someone who is obsessed with good looks, Gu Jiao collected many handsome men in her previous life, but none of them... to be precise, all the handsome men combined were not as good as the one in front of her.

This person had a very clean face, with delicately sculpted eyebrows and eyes, and a pair of cold, unfathomable eyes, like a deep, cold pool.

His face was sickly pale, but a blush rose to his cheeks from embarrassment and anger, which made him look somewhat alluring.

Given his age, Gu Jiao felt that a young man was more appropriate than a man.

"Have you seen enough?" Xiao Liulang asked through gritted teeth.

“I haven’t seen enough, but…” Gu Jiao glanced at his physique, her phoenix eyes narrowing slightly, “I’m afraid I’ll hurt you.”

After saying that, Gu Jiao pretended to get up.

However, even though the person got up, their eyes remained fixed on him, darting around meaningfully.

"Gu Jiao, you..." Xiao Liulang was embarrassed and angry by her gaze.

"Should I help you up?" Gu Jiao asked with a smile, extending her hand.

"Need not!"

Xiao Liulang turned to the side with an icy expression and stood up, holding onto a chair beside him.

It was clear that he had difficulty moving around, yet he still refused Gu Jiao's kindness.

He then ignored Gu Jiao and limped out of the house.

Gu Jiao remembered who he was at this moment; he was none other than Xiao Liulang, the original owner's husband.

Xiao Liulang was taken in by Gu Jiao. After he woke up, Gu's family asked him about his situation and found that he was an orphan with nowhere to go. They immediately forced Xiao Liulang to marry Gu Jiao by arguing that men and women should not touch each other, that their daughter had saved his life, and that the two of them should get married to preserve her reputation.

It's called a marriage, but it's more like an arranged marriage. The dilapidated house they currently live in was given to them by the Gu family, and the land they farm was also allocated by the Gu family—it's all the worst kind.

Gu Jiao didn't know that Xiao Liulang was a cripple when they got married. After she found out, she gradually began to dislike him and turned to "seduce" the young master Qin in town.

The villagers all felt sorry for Xiao Liulang, saying that it was like a beautiful flower stuck in cow dung, with Xiao Liulang being the flower and the cow dung being her.

Gu Jiao didn't know what Xiao Liulang was thinking, but the fact that he could ignore her disheveled appearance showed just how much he loathed the original owner.

Gu Jiao opened the closet door, intending to change out of her wet clothes, only to find, to her dismay, that there wasn't a single clean garment in the closet.

"Brother Xiao, are you there?"

A sweet, delicate voice suddenly came from outside the door.

The woman who arrived was a young woman wearing a purple floral jacket. She had her hair styled in a glossy bun and was made up. She carried a basket on her arm, which was covered with a floral cloth, making it impossible to see what was inside.

Gu Jiao quickly retrieved the name from the original owner's memories—Xue Ningxiang, the young widow from Qingquan Village.

Xue Ningxiang was their neighbor, and she often sneaked into their house, mostly when the original owner wasn't home. Occasionally, the original owner would catch her there. The original owner was naive and suffered a lot of injustice at Xue Ningxiang's hands.

The news of Young Master Qin's visit to the village was also revealed to the original owner by Xue Ningxiang.

"Oh, isn't this Sister Ningxiang? What are you doing at my house in broad daylight?"

Xue Ningxiang was startled by Gu Jiao's sudden appearance, then said with disappointment, "Why is it you?"

Gu Jiao smiled and gently knocked on the door, saying, "This is my home. Is it strange to see me? What are you disappointed about?"

Xue Ningxiang choked, of course she was disappointed that she didn't get to see Xiao Liulang.

Xue Ningxiang looked at Gu Jiao again.

The person was still the same, but she had become somewhat unfamiliar. She was no longer as wooden as before; her eyes had a sparkle. Even though she was soaking wet, she didn't seem disheveled; instead, she possessed an intimidating aura.

I must be seeing things. How could a fool change his appearance?

Xue Ningxiang raised her chin and said, "I'm here to see Brother Xiao!"

Gu Jiao smiled faintly: "You call me Brother Xiao so affectionately. Are you very familiar with my husband?"

"Get out of the way!" Xue Ningxiang ignored her.

"So what if I don't move aside?" Gu Jiao blocked her way.

Xue Ningxiang didn't take Gu Jiao seriously at all and pushed her away.

Gu Jiao gently stepped aside and hooked her toe.

"oops--"

Xue Ningxiang fell flat on her face, basket and all.

"You idiot! You tripped me!"

This kind of stumbling scene has played out many times before, only this time the one who is tripped up is Xue Ningxiang.

Gu Jiao crossed her arms and leaned against the door, looking at her as if to say, "So what if I tripped you? Go ahead and trip me back if you dare."

Xue Ningxiang seriously doubted that she was seeing things.

In fact, Xue Ningxiang and the original owner of this body had long been at odds—the two most talked-about women in the village were the foolish Gu Jiao and the widow Xue Ningxiang. But Xue Ningxiang was beautiful and hardworking, and felt she was more respectable than Gu Jiao.

When Xiao Liulang collapsed at the village entrance, it was Xue Ningxiang and the original owner of this body who found him. The difference was that Xue Ningxiang, fearing trouble, went to the village to call for help, while the original owner simply picked him up and took him home.

It was later confirmed that Xiao Liulang was an honest and upright scholar, and Xue Ningxiang regretted her actions.

Xue Ningxiang was about to start cursing when Xiao Liulang walked out with an icy expression.

Upon seeing him, Xue Ningxiang's expression immediately changed, and she began to cry weakly, "Brother Xiao, she bullied me! She tripped me!"

Gu Jiao looked at Xiao Liulang and spread her hands innocently: "She pushed me first."

Xue Ningxiang exclaimed excitedly, "Brother Xiao, listen, she admitted it—"

"What brings Sister Ningxiang here?" Xiao Liulang interrupted her.

Xue Ningxiang was stunned for a moment.

She glanced at Xiao Liulang, then at Gu Jiao, picked up the basket from the ground, and said, "I... um... you read my letter for me last time, and I haven't properly thanked you. Aren't you out of food at home? I went to the field and dug up some sweet potatoes to bring you..."

Xiao Liulang said, "No need, Sister Ningxiang. There's still cornmeal at home. You can take it back and eat it yourself."

Xue Ningxiang bit her lip: "But..."

Gu Jiao raised an eyebrow and said, "Didn't you hear me tell you to take it back?"

Her voice wasn't loud, but her seemingly smiling eyes held a chilling undercurrent.

Xue Ningxiang felt a chill run down her spine and dared not stay any longer. She slunk away with her basket.

Gu Jiao smiled and looked at her husband: "I didn't realize that a cripple like you could be so popular with women."

Xiao Liulang glanced at Gu Jiao indifferently, then leaned on his cane and went back into the house.

"Hiss—"

The wound hurts again.

Gu Jiao, holding her head, also went back to her room.

She sat on the stool and touched the wound. It was a huge gash. Although it wasn't too deep, if it wasn't disinfected in time, it would most likely get infected. But this was ancient times. Where was she going to get disinfectants?

"If only I still had my first-aid kit."

The thought had barely crossed her mind when Gu Jiao felt another sharp pain in her head, which made her faint.

When she woke up, she was surprised to find a box on the table in front of her.

This is a new story I'm reserving; I'll update it after "The Divine Doctor" is finished. Remember to bookmark it!
