Chapter 43 Nightmare
Xiao Liulang hated New Year's Eve because every New Year's Eve, he would dream of boundless fire.
He tried not to fall asleep, but as soon as he closed his eyes, he could feel the despair in the firelight.
"Xiao Liulang, let's make this clear first, we're only husband and wife in name only! You can't lay a hand on me!" Gu Jiao said seriously.
"Who tried to lay a hand on you?" he said irritably, turning his face away.
Gu Jiao brought over a bowl of water: "Who can guarantee that? You men say one thing and do another! To prevent you from doing anything bad, I'm putting a bowl of water here. If you dare to crawl over and spill this water in the middle of the night, you're a beast!"
"Fine, if I come over, I'll be a beast!"
How could he possibly go there?
He had absolutely no feelings for this woman!
When he woke up the next day, he glanced triumphantly at Gu Jiao, who was looking completely bewildered, as if to say, "So what? I just wasn't interested in you, was I?"
To his surprise, Gu Jiao didn't cheer up. Instead, she slapped him across the face and said, "You're not even as good as an animal!"
Xiao Liulang suddenly woke up!
He sat up and was shocked to realize that this was not his own room. There were a few crooked "福" (good fortune) characters pasted on the wall, and ugly paper-cut window decorations pasted on the window.
They were all the work of the old lady and Gu Xiaoshun.
Xiao Liulang finally remembered where he was, and he looked to his side.
Gu Jiao lay on her side facing him, her chubby cheeks pressed together, and her little mouth pouting.
She held his hand the whole night.
Xiao Liulang thought of that strange, beastly dream, his handsome brows furrowed, and he coldly removed Gu Jiao's hand!
Feeling disliked in her sleep, Gu Jiao grumbled in dissatisfaction and grabbed his hand again.
Xiao Liulang tried to remove her hand again, but it was no use; she still clung to him.
No one knows how many times he struggled, but in the end he was exhausted and fell asleep in a daze.
The nightmare did not occur until dawn.
——
Feng Lin stayed in Qingquan Village for three days, and Xiao Liulang also slept in the same bed with Gu Jiao for three nights. Except for the first night when she held his hand, she did not do so after that. Instead, she used both her hands and feet. When Xiao Liulang woke up, he would always find that the two of them were in the same bed.
When Xiao Liulang got angry, he would ask her, "You... did you do this on purpose?"
"Hmm?" Gu Jiao would look at him blankly.
This left Xiao Liulang unsure for a moment who was the one who was restless in their sleep; perhaps he was the one who had lured the other into bed...
Today is the day Xiao Liulang's stitches are removed. Actually, Gu Jiao could have removed them at home, but that would be too conspicuous, and the old lady's Chinese medicine has run out, so it's time to get some new medicine.
Don't underestimate this prescription just because it's only an adjunct treatment; it can definitely enhance the therapeutic effect.
After breakfast, Gu Jiao, Xiao Liulang, and Feng Lin took Uncle Luo's oxcart to Huichuntang in town.
All the staff had gone home for the New Year, leaving only the second boss, Manager Wang, and the old doctor who had been impersonating a famous doctor for Xiao Liulang at Huichuntang.
All three of them came from home specifically to see how the stitches would look after being removed.
Not to mention them, even Gu Jiao herself is quite looking forward to it.
She confirmed that there were no mistakes in the surgical procedure, but the extent of her recovery would depend on the final outcome.
The old doctor removed the stitches; he still has that much medical skill.
After the demolition, everyone's eyes fell on Xiao Liulang.
This surgery involves too many things, and the second master still hasn't given up on the idea of treating the young master, even though he was scolded by his own father when he returned to the capital for the New Year.
Shopkeeper Wang was somewhat hopeful that the surgery would be successful, after all, he was a man of conscience; but he also hoped that the surgery would fail, since the prerequisite for being a man of conscience was that he had to be a human being first, and once he was dead, he was a ghost.
Treating the young marquis's illness could really be fatal!
Xiao Liulang sat in the chair, his legs, now free of stitches, slowly moved to the ground. His crutches were beside him, but he didn't reach for them.
He stood up, holding onto the chair. He first used his uninjured left foot, but when he took his first step with his right foot, he felt his foot go weak and he fell forward!
Gu Jiao quickly caught him and gave him a tight hug.
As for the young couple, no one else said anything, but Xiao Liulang's ears suddenly burned.
Gu Jiao didn't notice anything unusual about him; all her attention was focused on his ankle.
"Are you alright?" she asked, staring at his ankle.
Xiao Liulang shook his head: "It's nothing."
He was injured for half a year and used crutches for half a year. He rarely put weight on his right foot, because every time he did, he felt excruciating pain.
Although I lost my balance just now, it doesn't seem to hurt anymore.
Xiao Liulang took the cane and tried to take another step to make sure that it really didn't hurt anymore.
He was usually expressionless, but this time he was somewhat stunned, clearly not expecting that he could actually cure the patient to this extent.
I thought I would be crippled and in pain for the rest of my life...
"Brother Xiao, are you better or not?" Feng Lin asked anxiously.
"I don't feel pain anymore, but I'm a little weak," Xiao Liulang said.
Feng Lin couldn't help but ask, "Then...is it really better? Why do I feel so weak?"
The old doctor said slowly, "Young Master Feng, please don't worry. The fact that Young Master Xiao is no longer in pain means that the surgery was very successful. However, since he has been injured for too long, his blood and qi are stagnant, his muscles and bones are weak, and his ankle is stiff. He still needs careful treatment and rigorous training."
"Can it be restored to the same state as before?" Feng Lin asked worriedly.
The old doctor glanced at Gu Jiao discreetly and smiled, "As long as Young Master Xiao isn't afraid of hard work."
Jiaojiao: Husband, you can definitely do it!
Liulang: Well, if you can learn to write, then I can learn to walk.
Jiaojiao, who has absolutely no desire to write: ...
