Chapter 441 A Cunning Plan (Ninth Update)
As the two were talking, a faint breathing sound came from outside the door.
"Who goes there!" Qi Fei's eyes narrowed, and he suddenly shot out a hidden weapon!
"Stop!" Prince Ning shouted.
That was almost an instinctive reaction on his part.
When Qi Fei saw that his master told him to stop, but the hidden weapon had already been shot out, he had no choice but to use even more force to shoot another dart and knock the previous dart away.
Two darts flew out of the window, sparking as they clashed in mid-air, before landing side by side next to a pair of simple embroidered shoes.
Qi Fei rushed out the door, but upon seeing who it was, he was taken aback: "Your Highness?"
Princess Ning nearly died from the dart, her face turning pale.
Qi Fei hurriedly bowed and said, "Your Highness, please forgive me! I did not expect Your Highness to..."
What can it be?
Will he come over at this hour, or will he secretly stand outside and eavesdrop on Prince Ning?
Princess Ning gripped the handkerchief tightly, her eyes flashing with suppressed emotion. Her lips trembled slightly, a mixture of anger, fear, and perhaps both.
The next moment, she turned around and walked out without looking back.
"Pure Heart!"
Despite the excruciating pain coursing through his body, Prince Ning chased after him.
Prince Ning grabbed Princess Ning's arm.
Seeing this, Qi Fei wisely stepped back. However, with his hearing, he could actually hear it, but the important thing was that his absence would prevent the princess from feeling embarrassed.
The short distance Prince Ning had run had caused many of his wounds to bleed, his lips to turn increasingly pale, and cold sweat to seep from his forehead once more.
"Suxin," he said hoarsely, enduring the pain, "Don't go, let me explain."
Princess Ning gripped her handkerchief tightly, looking at him with a complicated expression, a hint of tears welling in her eyes: "What do you want me to explain, Your Highness? Explain why you arrested Doctor Gu's husband, or explain why Your Highness burned Xiao Heng to death four years ago!"
Prince Ning said, "Xiao Heng is not dead..."
Princess Ning exclaimed, "That's because he's lucky! It's not that His Highness didn't try to harm him!"
“Su Xin… I have my reasons.” Prince Ning gripped her arm tightly, his eyes slightly red. “My mother was the Sixth Prince’s Consort, the wife my grandfather arranged for my father to marry. But after my father ascended the throne, he only bestowed upon my mother the title of Consort, and I was reduced from a legitimate son to a son of a concubine! Originally, the Eastern Palace was mine, the position of Crown Prince was mine, everything was mine! I am not reconciled… Su Xin… I am not reconciled!”
Princess Ning retorted, "So you just want to kill innocent people indiscriminately!"
Prince Ning explained, “Xiao Heng is not innocent. He is not Princess Xinyang’s biological son at all. He is the offspring of a female slave. Princess Xinyang, having experienced the pain of losing her own child, took her affections in him. That child… that child didn’t have to die… He is the one who should die… He stole everything from that child… He deserves to die!”
Princess Ning stared at him in disbelief, as if she had been greatly frightened. She swayed and took a few steps back.
Prince Ning turned deathly pale upon realizing the outrageous things he had said in his anger. He wasn't usually like this; he had been so enraged by that little female doctor named Gu Jiao that he had lost his mind.
He stepped forward with a guilty conscience.
"Don't come any closer! Don't touch me!" Princess Ning stepped back again, raising her hand in rejection to block his approach.
"Okay, I won't come over," Prince Ning quickly replied, glancing behind her. "There are steps behind you, don't fall."
As he spoke, he took a few steps back, gesturing for Princess Ning to come closer.
Princess Ning, however, did not take a single step forward.
Seeing the fear and growing disappointment in her eyes, Prince Ning couldn't help but take a step forward.
"Don't come any closer!" she said!
Prince Ning quickly stepped back and raised his hand to soothe her, saying, "Alright, Suxin, I won't come over, I really won't. Listen to me, I'm doing this not only for myself, but also for you. When I inherit the throne, you will be the Empress of Zhao!"
Princess Ning gave a cold laugh: "Empress? Your Highness, can I really be Empress?"
These words seemed to open a floodgate, unleashing a surge of even stronger emotions that completely overshadowed the fear and disappointment that had just been felt.
She gave him a cold look, said nothing more, and turned and left the courtyard in a daze.
Prince Ning did not force her to stay, but watched her disappearing figure into the night, his brows furrowing little by little.
"master."
Qi Fei walked over. "Are you alright?"
Prince Ning clutched his chest and coughed up a mouthful of blood.
How could nothing be wrong?
He was just putting on a brave face in front of her.
Qi Fei hurriedly helped Prince Ning into the house. Prince Ning's wounds had reopened, so Qi Fei summoned the physician from the manor to treat Prince Ning thoroughly.
They worked until late into the night to finally bring Prince Ning's injuries under control.
After seeing the doctor off, Qi Fei said earnestly to Prince Ning, "Your Highness, you must not continue like this; it's too harmful to your health."
"Has the Princess Consort rested?" Prince Ning asked.
Qi Fei was stunned. The princess had harmed the prince so much, why was his master still thinking about her?
Qi Fei said in a low voice, "Let's rest."
Prince Ning said, "It's good that you've rested."
Qi Fei said, "Master, it might not be safe for the Princess Consort. She's close to Princess Rui and Doctor Gu. What if she leaks information..."
Prince Ning paused for a moment, then said, "She won't."
Qi Fei thought for a moment and asked, "Should I send someone... to monitor the Princess?"
Prince Ning shot him a cold glare!
Qi Fei shrank his neck.
Prince Ning pondered for a moment, but ultimately did not reject the suggestion: "Have someone keep their distance so as not to offend the Princess Consort. Also, remember to avoid staring when you shouldn't."
Qi Fei understood that they couldn't be watching him do things that were private, like bathing and changing clothes.
Prince Ning sighed, "Never mind, I'll coax her after she calms down. The most urgent thing is to resolve the problem between Xiao Liulang and Gu Jiao. No, let's deal with Gu Jiao first."
This woman is so unpredictable; no one knows what she'll do next.
Prince Ning had never been afraid of any opponent, but Gu Jiao was the first person who made him feel somewhat uneasy.
Qi Fei said, "Your Highness, why don't we send someone to kill her?"
Prince Ning said coldly, "Have you forgotten how the expert who went to assassinate Yuan Tang died last time?"
Qi Fei argued, "Just because she was there doesn't mean she did it." All the experts at the time were dead and none returned to report. They determined that Gu Jiao was also there by looking at the footprints and fallen herbs at the scene.
Prince Ning touched the jade thumb ring beside his pillow: "Better safe than sorry. If too few people go, we won't be able to kill her; if too many people go, it will cause too much of a commotion."
Qi Fei frowned: "Isn't there any way to deal with her?"
Prince Ning looked at the jade thumb ring and said, "No rush. Right now, she's more eager to deal with me than I am to deal with her. When the time comes, I'll just use her as a pretext."
