Chapter 537 (First Update)
Gu Jiao originally thought there was only one man in black, but she didn't expect there to be two more hiding in the shadows.
Mo Qianxue was already seriously injured, and this all-out attack almost drained her of her strength. The moment the three men in black fell from the height, she could no longer hold on, spat out a mouthful of blood, and fainted.
Gu Jiao bent down and carried Mo Qianxue back to the house, where the clinic's servants would clean up.
Mo Qianxue was covered in snowflakes, and there was a slight tear in the wound on her leg, from which blood seeped out and stained her nightgown red.
Gu Jiao first took off her clothes and stuffed them into the quilt, then opened the closet door and found a clean set of nightgown for her to change into.
In her dazed state, Mo Qianxue felt someone touch her body. Her face paled, and she grabbed the other person's hand.
“It’s me,” Gu Jiao said.
Mo Qianxue lowered her hand, leaned her head against Gu Jiao's chest, and fell into a deep sleep.
In fact, several waves of pursuers had already come to the clinic, but perhaps because the situation was particularly serious tonight, Gu Jiao clearly sensed a change in Mo Qianxue's emotions.
In the latter half of the night, Mo Qianxue even had nightmares.
She was afraid.
Her face was pale, and her body trembled slightly, as if she were trapped in an endless nightmare.
"Mo Qianxue, Mo Qianxue," Gu Jiao tried to wake her.
Mo Qianxue opened her eyes and glanced at Gu Jiao in fear. Whether she was still dreaming or not, she didn't respond, but just tightly gripped Gu Jiao's hand, like a drowning person clinging to the last piece of driftwood.
"Are you that scared?" Gu Jiao murmured, without pulling her hand back.
...
Gu Jiao took some time to go back to Bishui Hutong.
Xiao Jingkong hadn't seen Gu Jiao for several days, and his eyes welled up with tears of grievance: "Jiao Jiao!"
He rushed over and hugged Gu Jiao.
Although he was said to be five years old, he looked a year younger than his peers, and Gu Jiao easily lifted him up.
Little Jingkong sat in Gu Jiao's arms and shook his little head!
"Jiaojiao, are you done with the clinic?" Xiao Jingkong asked.
"Not yet." Gu Jiao entered the room and greeted Yao Shi.
Yao had just finished giving Gu Xiaobao a bath.
"You're back. You don't need to go to the clinic anymore, right?" Madam Yao said gently.
"I have to go over there tonight," Gu Jiao said.
Xiao Jingkong thought for a moment, then got down from Gu Jiao's arms and moved a chair for her: "Jiao Jiao is tired, Jiao Jiao, sit down."
Gu Xiaobao: "Waaah!"
Upon hearing her son's voice, Yao chuckled: "Did Xiaobao speak? Does Xiaobao want his sister to sit down?"
Gu Xiaobao stared at Gu Jiao with his big, round eyes wide open.
Gu Jiao walked over and poked Gu Xiaobao's cheek.
Gu Xiaobao chuckled.
A three-month-old baby can laugh out loud, but Gu Xiaobao is a baby who doesn't cry, fuss, or like to laugh. Apart from giggling once on the day he turned three months old, he hasn't made a sound no matter how much you try to coax him.
Gu Jiao found it quite amusing and gently poked his chubby little face again.
Gu Xiaobao laughed out loud again.
Gu Jiao poked again, and Gu Xiaobao laughed again.
Little Jingkong clapped his hands excitedly and jumped up and down, shouting, "My little brother smiled! My little brother smiled!"
Just then, Lord Gu arrived from his newly built mansion. The heavy snow a while ago had delayed the finishing touches on the mansion, but since the weather had improved recently, he led the craftsmen from the Ministry of Works to work day and night to catch up.
He came here today to pick up materials, and he made a special detour to see his wife and son.
He had just reached the door when he heard Xiao Jingkong calling. He held his breath and, sure enough, heard his son's laughter.
His son can smile now!
Lord Gu strode into the house, beaming with pride: "Son! Your father has come to see you!"
Without even glancing at Gu Jiao, he went straight to his wife, Yao, and, overflowing with fatherly love, hugged Gu Xiaobao.
Then Gu Xiaobao stopped laughing.
Lord Gu teased him: "...Son? Give your father a smile!"
Under his father's expectant gaze, Gu Xiaobao calmly took out his little finger, put it in his mouth, and smacked it, instantly lulling himself to sleep!
Lord Gu: "..."
Mo Qianxue slept until the afternoon. Doctor Tong came to check on her once during the day, took her pulse, and examined her wound.
Everything is fine.
With the incident at Xianleju, the teahouse reopened ahead of schedule, and more people were loitering on the streets. Consequently, the number of people suffering from headaches, fevers, drunkenness, and causing trouble also increased.
A group of drunkards and injured people came to the clinic today. There are not enough doctors, so we can't take care of them all at once.
However, none of this mattered to Mo Qianxue. She didn't need any additional treatment; she could simply rest and recover quietly in her room.
The maid brought over the food.
Mo Qianxue ate a little something. Her leg was injured and her ribs were broken, so she couldn't get out of bed and could only lie there listlessly.
She leaned against the headboard, twisting the handkerchief in her hand, and grumbled, "Where did the little liar go?"
Suddenly, a figure flashed past the door.
A flicker of wariness flashed across Mo Qianxue's eyes: "Who!"
The slightly ajar door was gently pushed open from the outside, and first a delicate embroidered fan was slipped through the crack in the door. Then, the owner of the fan walked in with graceful steps.
Those were brand new pink lotus-patterned embroidered shoes, made with real gold thread, incredibly expensive. Only the most beautiful courtesan of Xianleju in the entire capital could afford such shoes.
The wariness in Mo Qianxue's eyes faded, replaced by a faint sense of disgust.
"What are you doing here?" Mo Qianxue asked coldly.
Hua Xiyao smiled brightly: "I've come to see my sister."
Hua Xiyao closed the door behind her and swayed gracefully toward Mo Qianxue's bedside.
Mo Qianxue said with a disdainful look, "Who is your sister? Don't go around claiming relatives here."
"Heh." Hua Xiyao covered half her face with her fan and laughed, her body trembling. "We're all girls from brothels, who's more noble than whom? Don't talk like you're some kind of virtuous young lady."
Mo Qianxue said impatiently, "Speak up if you have something to say, or shut up if you have something to say."
Hua Xiyao laughed so hard she almost fell over: "It's been a few days, and you're still as vulgar as ever. Does that young master know what kind of person you are? Is it hard for you to pretend in front of him? Oh, I forgot, he's not a young master, he's a young lady. Sister, you've misplaced your affections."
Mo Qianxue looked at her coldly: "Hua Xiyao, are you just here to tell me this because you have nothing better to do?"
Hua Xiyao removed the fan from her face, revealing an innocent expression: "Of course not, I'm here to remind you, sister, not to forget your identity and not to become a traitor to Xianleju."
Mo Qianxue turned her face away and said calmly, "I didn't."
Hua Xiyao sneered and took out three silver needles from her bosom: "So those three people weren't killed by you, sister? These silver needles are made in imitation of the Tang Clan's Tanghua needles. It seems that no one else in the capital uses these silver needles except for you, sister."
Mo Qianxue tightened her grip on the handkerchief, but said without changing her expression, "I don't need to explain my actions to you."
Hua Xiyao threw three silver needles onto Mo Qianxue's quilt: "Young Master sent me."
Mo Qianxue's eyes flickered slightly, and she said seriously, "I killed those three people to gain her trust."
Hua Xiyao sat down on the edge of Mo Qianxue's bed, looking into Mo Qianxue's eyes with a half-smile: "Doesn't she trust you enough?"
Mo Qianxue blinked lightly, then looked up to meet Hua Xiyao's gaze: "Not enough, I didn't have a chance to make a move."
Hua Xiyao curled her lips, stood up and went to the wardrobe. She opened the wardrobe door and brushed her fingertips across Gu Jiao's clothes: "You've been sleeping in the same room and still haven't had a chance to make a move? Who are you trying to fool, sister?"
"Then why don't you do it?" Mo Qianxue retorted.
Hua Xiyao closed the cabinet door: "I don't have my sister's luck, she can turn any young master she hooks into a big fish."
Mo Qianxue glanced at her and said, "It's good that you know you don't have the ability. Go back and tell the young master that I will kill her! But I need time!"
“Three days.” Hua Xiyao held up three fingers.
Mo Qianxue looked coldly at Hua Xiyao.
Hua Xiyao smiled charmingly: "Young Master only wanted to give you one day, but I managed to get two more days for you, sister. Please don't let my good intentions go to waste."
"Hua Xiyao." Mo Qianxue called out to Hua Xiyao, who had already turned to leave.
Hua Xiyao stopped in her tracks, turned around and smiled: "Is there anything else, sister?"
Mo Qianxue suddenly shot out a silk thread, which wrapped around Hua Xiyao's foot. Then, with a cold tug, the silk thread twisted off Hua Xiyao's embroidered shoe!
Mo Qianxue didn't stand on ceremony with Hua Xiyao at all. If Hua Xiyao hadn't been quite skilled in martial arts, she probably would have already fallen flat on her face.
Hua Xiyao's face darkened, and she gritted her teeth, saying, "Mo Qianxue!"
Mo Qianxue coldly said, "Get lost."
