Chapter 6 Selling Chickens

Chapter 6 Selling Chickens

Gu Jiao bent down, picked up the cane from the ground with her left hand, walked to Xiao Liulang and handed it to him.

Xiao Liulang calmly took the cane and stood up, leaning on it.

He went to pick up the bucket that had fallen to the ground.

"Go ahead," Gu Jiao said to Gu Xiaoshun.

"Oh." Gu Xiaoshun scurried over and picked up the bucket before Xiao Liulang could.

"Go fetch water," Gu Jiao said to Gu Xiaoshun.

"Go fetch water!" Gu Xiaoshun said to one of his thugs.

The scoundrel's lips twitched, and he grabbed the bucket to fetch water.

Xiao Liulang walked back expressionlessly, without saying a word the entire time.

Only after he had walked away did Gu Xiaoshun speak again: "Sis, what's going on? You don't hate him anymore? And sis, how did you become so strong? What move was that just now? Show it to me again! I want to try it too!"

Gu Jiao shot her a sharp glare.

Gu Xiaoshun shut his mouth in annoyance.

"Boss! The water's here!" The thug strode over, carrying a full bucket of water.

"Aren't you going to take this back to my sister... cough." Under Gu Jiao's oppressive gaze, Gu Xiaoshun took the bucket. "Alright, give it to me, you guys can all leave!"

"They'll go fight in the next village later..."

"What are you fighting for! Get out of here, all of you! Get the hell out of here!"

The villains dispersed.

Gu Xiaoshun smiled and looked at Gu Jiao: "Sister, don't be angry. If you don't hate brother-in-law anymore, I won't bully him anymore."

"Do you often bully him?" Gu Jiao asked.

Gu Xiaoshun scratched his head: "Well... not often, maybe three or four times a month, four or five times? Five, six, seven or eight times?"

As the conversation progressed, Gu Xiaoshun's voice grew softer and softer. He had a bad memory and didn't even know how many times he had bullied others.

"Let's go back," Gu Jiao said.

"Hey!" Gu Xiaoshun chuckled, carrying the bucket and following behind Gu Jiao.

Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks, his gaze falling on Gu Jiao's stiff right arm: "Sister, is your hand injured?"

"It's nothing," Gu Jiao said.

"You're alright! You're bleeding!" Gu Xiaoshun put down the bucket, grabbed Gu Jiao's arm, and rolled up her sleeve, revealing a patch of blood on her right wrist. "Was it from when I hit you with that stick?"

"I already said it's nothing." Gu Jiao withdrew her hand.

"And what happened to your head?"

"I bumped into something before falling into the water."

The wound was hidden in his hair. How come this kid has such sharp eyes?

Gu Xiaoshun asked again, "You fell into the water? When?"

Gu Jiao left without looking back.

"Hey! Sis! Sis! Wait for me!"

When Gu Xiaoshun followed Gu Jiao home, he was surprised to find a young scholar standing at the door. The man was dressed in a long robe, refined and cultured, with an elegant demeanor, though there was a hint of arrogance between his brows.

"Who are you? What are you doing at my sister's house?" Gu Xiaoshun asked, hands on his hips.

The other person didn't even look at Gu Xiaoshun, but only glared coldly at Gu Jiao: "Did you have someone bully Brother Xiao again? You wicked woman!"

"How dare you insult my sister?" Gu Xiaoshun put down the bucket of water and swung his fist at the man.

Don't let his young age of thirteen fool you; he's a real fighter, otherwise he wouldn't have become the number one villain in the surrounding area.

A frail scholar could not possibly be his match.

"Xiao Shun," Gu Jiao called out to him.

At almost the same moment, Xiao Liulang also changed his clothes and came out of the house.

“My classmate,” Xiao Liulang said to Gu Jiao and her brother.

His classmate scoffed, walked over to help Xiao Liulang up, and took the heavy bundle from his hands: "Let's go!"

Gu Xiaoshun was taken aback when he saw that Xiao Liulang had already packed his bags: "Where are you going?"

Could it be that she's so scared of him that she's really planning to leave?

His classmates didn't want to talk to Gu Xiaoshun.

Gu Jiao didn't ask any more questions, and just silently walked into the house.

As she brushed past Xiao Liulang, he glanced at her slightly stiff right hand.

Gu Jiao covered her hands with her sleeve, so the bloodstains on her wrists were not visible.

But as soon as she entered the house, she suddenly heard Xiao Liulang's somewhat cold voice behind her: "I'm going to town."

"Treatment for the legs?" Gu Jiao asked instinctively.

For some reason, Gu Jiao thought of that dream. She really didn't believe in this stuff, but...

"Do you have an exam in three days?" Gu Jiao asked him.

A hint of surprise flashed in Xiao Liulang's eyes, but he still nodded: "...Yes."

The classmate said irritably, "Why are you telling her all this? Be careful she doesn't stop you from going again! Have you forgotten that you missed the exam last time because of her? And your leg, if she hadn't locked you at home, you wouldn't have missed seeing Dr. Zhang!"

Gu Jiao turned to look at Gu Xiaoshun.

She doesn't remember any of these things.

Gu Xiaoshun pointed at his nose and said, "Can't you speak properly? What do you mean my sister stopped him from going? My sister is sick, and he just got married and he's already abandoning her. Is that reasonable?"

Mentioning this, Gu Jiao remembered that the original owner of this body had indeed fallen ill shortly after getting married, but it wasn't a real illness; she was faking it. Someone had told her that Xiao Liulang was gone and wouldn't be coming back, leaving her a widow like Xue Ningxiang.

She didn't want to be a widow, so she locked Xiao Liulang up.

She had no idea that Xiao Liulang had missed the exam six months ago, as well as the only chance to treat his leg, because of this.

Gu Jiao glanced at Xiao Liulang's legs: "Well, actually..."

"Brother Xiao, let's go! The carriage is still waiting at the village entrance!" The classmate interrupted Gu Jiao and pulled Xiao Liulang towards the village entrance without looking back.

"I want osmanthus cake!" Gu Jiao suddenly walked out and looked at Xiao Liulang, saying, "Li Ji's osmanthus cake! I only eat theirs! If you don't buy it for me, I won't let you in! I'll even burn all your books!"

"That wicked woman!" His classmate gritted his teeth and helped Xiao Liulang onto an old horse-drawn carriage at the village entrance. "Brother Xiao, don't listen to her! Li's is an old brand, and their osmanthus cakes are so hard to come by! By the time you buy them, Doctor Zhang will have already left! He's a doctor from the capital, much better than the doctors in town. Only he can cure your leg. You absolutely mustn't let that wicked woman drag you down!"

“That’s my sister, that’s how you have to boss her around!” Gu Xiaoshun gave Gu Jiao a thumbs up.

Gu Jiao rubbed her forehead: "Do you know where the market is?"

Gu Xiaoshun nodded: "I know, sis, why are you asking this? Are you going? What for?"

"Selling chickens."

"Chicken? Sis, where did you get this chicken?"

"pheasant."

He didn't mention that he had forcibly taken the consultation fee.

Gu Xiaoshun naturally assumed that his sister had caught it herself: "Sis, I've noticed you've changed. You've become much more capable than before!"

It's not that he's not stupid anymore, it's that he's become more capable than before. In Gu Xiaoshun's heart, he has never treated the original owner as a fool.

Gu Xiaoshun told him the direction of the market. Both the market and the clinic were in the town, but one was in the west and the other in the east.

Gu Xiaoshun insisted on going with her, but Gu Jiao refused.

The Gu family did not like Gu Xiaoshun getting too close to Gu Jiao, saying that Gu Jiao was stupid and would make him stupid too.

Gu Jiao went back to her room, opened her first-aid kit, cleaned the wound with iodine, and applied some antibacterial ointment.

I'm so hungry.

Gu Jiao went to the kitchen.
