Scarlett's college loan APP is very different from others. The string of bright red numbers on the screen is not only eye-catching, but also like a precise countdown hourglass, beating mercilessly every minute and every second. Every flash is like a stab in her heart.
What was shown above was not only the huge loan that Merlin had cheated her out of last time, but also the gold coins that she had owed Merlin for various reasons. Over time, the amount had accumulated like a snowball, getting bigger and bigger, and she was overwhelmed.
Scarlett stared at the long string of numbers on the communication crystal that seemed to have no end. She felt dizzy and full of despair.
She was relying entirely on loans to make ends meet in the academy. She had to use all the money she earned from working very hard to repay the high interest that haunted her like a ghost, while the principal remained untouched.
This time, she had tried her best to get some credits in the points challenge and thought she could see a glimmer of hope. However, the reality dealt her a heavy blow. She plunged into debt and was unable to even make a sound.
Scarlett felt that she was being driven crazy. The debt crisis was like a ferocious dog, biting her tightly and urging her to work frantically for Merlin like a top.
But for some reason, despite her best efforts, her debt seemed to be trapped in a strange vortex. She owed more and more, like a bottomless pit, so deep that she could not see the slightest hope of relief.
Scarlett was really at her wit's end this time. She stared out the window with empty eyes for a long time. Finally, as if she had made up her mind, her eyes gradually became firm. She gritted her teeth and muttered to herself, "It seems that this is the only way..."
The back garden of the Mage Tower in the Arcane Academy is now like a bustling poultry kingdom.
Weber stood in the middle of the garden, looking at the red-crested, white-feathered chickens running around and chirping in the backyard. He couldn't help but rub his temples with his hands, his face full of headache.
It was all because of listening to Merlin's bad advice, coupled with his and Jones' hilarious "magic operation", that the breeding habits of the red-crowned white-feathered chickens have been completely changed.
Back then, the red-crowned, white-feathered chicken was notoriously difficult to take care of, with extremely demanding breeding conditions and so many requirements that a long list could be made.
But who could have imagined that after drinking a large amount of the "Fall in Love with a Chai" potion, these chickens seemed to be cast under a strange spell. All they could think about was education and training. They were concentrating on laying and hatching eggs like crazy, and their enthusiasm was so high that nothing could be stopped.
In just such a short period of time, the number of chickens has increased exponentially. The crisis of extinction has long disappeared without a trace. Now there are so many chickens that it is a bit difficult to cope with them. The whole garden is filled with flying feathers and endless noise.
"So, granddaughter," Weber's eyes widened, almost popping out, staring at Scarlett, his expression as if he had seen a ghost, "You haven't come to see grandpa for so long, and you finally came here to borrow money from me?"
The tone was full of disbelief, as if he had heard something out of the Arabian Nights.
Scarlett's eyes rolled around, and she forced a flattering smile on her face. She chuckled, hugged her grandfather's arm tightly with both hands, shook it hard, and said coquettishly, "Grandpa, I'm at my wit's end. I really have no other choice but to borrow some money from you to help me out."
Weber frowned, looked at her suspiciously, and asked, "I really want to know what you spent the money on and how much you owe?"
Scarlett gritted her teeth, as if she had made a great decision, and slowly handed the shocking red number on her campus loan APP to Weber.
Waver took a closer look and his eyes widened instantly, almost popping out of their sockets. He took a deep breath and shouted in shock, "Don't call me grandpa, I have to call you grandpa. You've only been in school for less than two years, and you actually owe more than 20,000 gold coins?!"
The sound became sharp and piercing because of excessive shock, and echoed over the garden.
"Grandpa, don't get excited yet." Scarlett scratched her head a little embarrassedly and explained in a low voice, "Twenty thousand of this is the money I owe Merlin. This money is easy to pay back slowly, but the rest is the campus loan. This cannot be delayed. The interest is compounded every day!"
When Weber heard this, the muscles on his face twitched violently. He gritted his teeth, stretched out his finger, pointed directly in the direction of the entrance to the back garden, and said mercilessly: "Don't ask me to borrow money, I don't have any! Get out of here, we are not familiar with each other!"
Scarlett refused to give up. Her eyes turned red and tears welled up in them. She said pitifully with a sobbing tone, "Grandpa, you can't just ignore me. I have been a child without parental love since I was young. I have always been by your side, and I was brought up by your teachings..."
"Shut up!" Waver was furious when he heard this. He blew his beard and glared at him, retorting, "Ever since you were blessed by the Dream Dragon when you were a child, you've been either eating or sleeping. How could you have the time to come and see me? And you dare to say that you grew up under my guidance? Humph, I told you that we are not familiar with each other!"
Scarlett saw that soft tactics didn't work, so she resorted to hard tactics. She tightly grasped Weber's arm with both hands, crying miserably, crying and shouting: "Grandpa, you can't just ignore your granddaughter's life or death! You are a demigod, and you can just take out something from your space ring to pay off the debt. Can you share some of the debt for your granddaughter? If all else fails, go hunt a dragon. I heard that the materials on a dragon are very valuable!"
When Waver heard this, he almost laughed out loud. He said with a smile: "Do you think dragons are so easy to kill? Everyone knows that dragons are full of treasures, but since the dragon clan signed a contract with the Federation, it is a serious crime to kill dragons privately. Besides, I am a demigod, and I am restricted by the demigod contract. I can't kill them casually!"
Actually, Weber had a lot of pain in his heart, he opened the Arcane Academy and invested all his small treasury that he had accumulated for many years into it, hoping to collect more power of faith. But he never thought that he would end up living in poverty now, with his pockets cleaner than his face, and he really had no money to help his granddaughter.
Scarlett didn't care about that and kept begging, "I'm just giving you an example! If you can't kill the dragon, you can kill other monsters, right?"
Weber lost his temper because of her pestering him. He sighed helplessly and said, "Don't say you are my granddaughter. This is not filial piety at all. You clearly want me, an old man at my age, to pay you back!"
"I can't find my parents. Who knows where they went?" Scarlett muttered, looking aggrieved.
