Chapter 59: Tavern Opening

As the combustibles disappeared, the fire elemental magic in the fire potion scattered in the air. Merlin looked at the charred corpse and the magician who was turned into charcoal by thunder, and his nervous mood relaxed instantly. However, he still looked around with some fear, holding the necklace tightly in his hand, fearing that someone else would attack him.

After confirming that there was no one around for a while, Merlin let out a breath and collapsed to the ground. He looked at the charred corpse in front of him that was indistinguishable from a human being, and felt nauseous and dizzy.

Killing didn't feel good. This was Merlin's first time killing someone, but the blood of the Leo family in this world made him less afraid.

"Damn it, who wants to kill me? Who did I offend? Kairos?" Merlin stood up and helped up the frightened coachman beside him.

"Are you okay?"

"No...it's okay..." The coachman looked at the carriage beside him. Fortunately, because of the fight just now, the horses were frightened and ran away with the carriage, otherwise the guy who was eating there would be in trouble.

Merlin looked at the charred bodies, all the things on them were burned up. "Damn it, who are these people? I have no idea."

"My lord, these people may be members of the Rat Gang from the lower city." The coachman led the horse to Merlin's side and spoke.

"You know?"

"When this group of people attacked us just now, I saw marks on their faces. They must be members of the Rat Gang."

Merlin got on the carriage and took out a handful of gold coins from his pocket and put them in the driver's hand. "Tell me more about this Rat Gang. These gold coins will be your compensation for the carriage and the cost of purchasing the information."

The coachman was still in shock, but when he saw the gold coins Merlin put in his hand, his expression changed from fear to ecstasy. There were at least twenty gold coins in this handful, which was equivalent to his income for one or two months.

"Young Master, there are many gangs in the lower district of the Arcane City. The Rat Gang is one of them. They usually collect protection fees, act as thugs, and do some shady things."

"I heard that the gangs in the lower city are more or less related to the Assassin's Guild and the Killer's Guild. Young Master, you'd better think about who you have offended."

Merlin's suspicion of Kairos decreased a lot after listening to this. Although he didn't want to admit it, the proud elves disdained to associate with the humans in the lower city. Not to mention hiring them, even meeting them was a blasphemy to them.

Who wants to kill me then? Merlin began to think in the carriage, wondering if he had overlooked something.

Suddenly, Merlin seemed to remember something. He wondered how his original body died and whether it was related to this incident. He had been living too comfortably in the Arcane Academy during this period of time and almost forgot about it.

If it is really related to this matter, then my current situation may be quite dangerous.

The other party should know him better. After all, before traveling through time, Merlin was just a useless person with only magic power. The members of the Rat Gang who attacked him were all at the second level, and that magician should be at the third level.

It was easy for this lineup to kill Merlin, but unfortunately, they didn't know that the current Merlin was no longer the Merlin of the past, not to mention that he also had things like fire potions and lightning potions.

Even if he didn't use these potions, he still had a lot of alchemical equipment, but he always felt that his means of survival were not enough after this attack. It seemed that he had to go back and buy more defensive alchemical equipment, preferably the kind that was passively triggered.

Arriving at the Arcane City, Merlin got off the carriage and went to the tavern where his parents were. Merlin straightened his clothes. He did not intend to tell his parents about the attack. He planned to see if he could handle it himself. If not, he would seek help from his parents.

Today, the tavern has changed a lot. The original dilapidated tavern building has been rebuilt using the craftsmanship of the dwarf master architects, giving it an ancient and solemn atmosphere.

The pub's sign also changed from wood to metal, with a lifelike drunken dwarf painted in gold and color, holding a beer bottle and giving a thumbs up.

The name of the tavern also changed from The Dwarves Are Good to The Dwarves Are Crazy.

The originally broken windows have been turned into a whole large glass and iron window grilles, through which you can see the lively scene inside.

The main door is made of open, heavy oak, with wooden wine barrels placed on both sides of the door as decoration.

Merlin pushed the door open with some surprise, and when he went in he saw the layout that he had carefully designed. It had the atmosphere of a modern barbecue restaurant, with a spacious hall and a large fireplace in the center.

The walls were decorated with exquisite tapestries and paintings depicting hunting scenes, religious stories or historical events, and the tables and chairs were all intricately carved wood with a smooth varnished surface, and the seats were covered with thick furs or embroidered cushions.

Barrels and bottles are lined up behind the bar, which itself is decorated with copper ornaments and intricately carved wood carvings.

Merlin's mother, Kanna, was greeting guests enthusiastically at the moment, holding two full glasses of beer in her hands, with hops and bubbles constantly coming out.

"Merlin! My good son!"

When Merlin pushed open the door of the tavern, Kanna saw her son at a glance. She excitedly stuffed the beer into the hands of the two dwarves, then she quickly ran to Merlin, holding up her skirt, and hugged him.

"Long time no see. Mommy missed you so much." Kanna hugged her son tightly, rubbing Merlin's head and face with her soft little hands.

Merlin felt a little breathless, and upon hearing the sound, Pete immediately rushed out from the kitchen with a skewer in his hand. "My good son is here? Where is he? Let your father see."

Merlin broke free from his mother's embrace and asked, "Mother, Father, what are you doing?"

Didn’t Merlin remember asking his mother and father to open the tavern later? Why did the tavern open early?

Otto, who was burping from beer at the table next to him, raised his beer glass high and looked at Merlin, saying drunkenly, "Hi! Nephew, long time no see! How are you these days?"

"Oh? This little guy is Merlin? He's really handsome."

"This is so cool, much cooler than those annoying elves!"

"Damn it, with my looks, I'll never have to worry about food and drink. Those old ladies with big butts will definitely line up to give me money to spend!"

A group of dwarves stared at Merlin vulgarly, speaking adult obscenities.

"Pate, when will my kebabs be served?"

"Right away! It'll be ready soon!" Pete wanted to talk to his son, but when he thought of his work, he went back to the kitchen and continued grilling in a depressed mood.

Kanna brought Merlin to the bar and started greeting customers.

"Mother, why is the tavern open now?"

Kanna pushed the beer to the dwarf in front of her and answered Merlin, "It's your uncle Otto who brags every day about how delicious barbecue is and how well it goes with beer. Then your father even prepared braised edamame and peanuts in advance. Then these dwarves got addicted and helped us quickly decorate the tavern, clamoring for barbecue."

"We have no choice but to open early."
