Chapter 7 Perfume Making is the Beginning of Alchemy

Perfume making is the beginning of alchemy. Many self-taught alchemy apprentices are stuck in the perfume making assessment and ultimately can only become a perfumer who mixes body water for nobles.

In the previous alchemy class, Harrington had already explained a lot of theoretical knowledge about perfume making, and even some basic formulas of aromatherapy and body water. These formulas were all tried and tested and popular in the upper class.

Don't underestimate the formulas that Teacher Harrington talked about. These formulas are not secrets in the Arcane Academy, but if they are placed outside, they are secret recipes cherished by every perfumer. They are good things that will not be passed on unless you spend a lot of money or have great perseverance to become an apprentice and smash them.

Merlin's mouth twitched slightly when he saw Fate grind a large amount of black pepper and star anise and mix them into honey. This is really a dark combination.

At this moment, Chris was flipping through her handwritten notes, looking at the classic aromatherapy formulas in them. However, such a delicate job as mixing aromatherapy was still a bit difficult for a rough person like her.

Chris looked at Merlin who didn't move at all and asked in confusion, "Merlin, why don't you make it yourself? Does the family bankruptcy have such a big impact on you?"

Such a nice girl but she has a big mouth. Merlin's mouth twitched. If your family went bankrupt, would you still be in a good mood? Can it still have little impact?

On the other side, the ratman Sigma sneered disdainfully, looked at Merlin with contempt and said, "Chris, why didn't Merlin use these precious spices to mix the wine? Isn't it because his family went bankrupt? He took so many spices, obviously intending to sell them for some gold coins."

"After all, Merlin will be poor in the future. I don't know if he can stay in school next month. After all, the dormitory fee for the premium dormitory is paid monthly."

Sigma's words made Chris and Fate stare at him unhappily, especially Chris, who slammed the table and said, "Shut up, Rat Man, if you don't speak, no one will think you are dumb."

"That's right, that's right, Rat Man, even if Merlin wanted to make money, he wouldn't sell the spices directly. Wouldn't it be better to mix some body water and sell it?" Fate snorted.

"Just him? What good stuff can he make? Alchemy requires both talent and hard work. What else does Merlin have besides a handsome face?" said the rat man Sigma sourly.

Merlin's mind was a little confused now. He had no idea whether the rat man was praising him or insulting him. He touched his face and lowered his head to look at his reflection in the basin. Damn it, he couldn't even refute the rat man. How could he be so handsome?

"What are you arguing about?" Teacher Harrington heard the voices and put down the book in his hand and came to Merlin and the others. He felt a little surprised to see Merlin holding the spices but not taking any action.

"Merlin, have you encountered any difficulties?" Harrington still liked Merlin as a child. After all, Merlin was the kind of well-behaved student who listened to the class carefully and did not make noise in class. What's more, he had a face that was 70% similar to him when he was young.

Of course, the last sentence was Harrington's boasting, and although he always said it in the teacher's office, no one believed it.

"No, Mr. Harrington, I just haven't figured out what to do." Merlin shook his head.

"Haven't decided what to make? How about making some simple aromatherapy? You can try the combination of rosemary and mint, or make the classic honey body water." Harrington gave Merlin a thoughtful recommendation.

"Thank you, teacher. I actually have a new idea about how to use these spices, but I haven't thought it through yet." Merlin politely declined Harrington's recommendation. Harrington saw Merlin nodded and didn't force it.

"Then follow your idea. The Arcane Academy is a place that loves innovation. Merlin, if you discover a new spice formula, maybe you can solve the problem your family is facing."

Harrington looked at Merlin's surprised expression and continued with a smile, "Alchemy has infinite possibilities. Even if it is the lowest level of perfume making, if a new formula that is acceptable to the public is created, then the value of this formula is absolutely beyond imagination."

"Of course, it doesn't matter if you fail. These spices are included in the tuition you paid, but the teacher hopes to see your work tomorrow." After Harrington finished speaking, he took out a small cloth bag of spices from his arms and placed it on the table in front of Merlin.

Merlin looked at the spices such as pepper, cinnamon, and bay leaves in the small cloth bag, then looked up and saw Harrington had walked to the front of the podium.

"Apprentices, for those of you who have just started alchemy, making perfume is not an easy task. If you encounter any problems during the process, you can always ask me, or find seniors."

"The teacher will give you one day. Bring your works to the classroom tomorrow and the teacher will personally check them for you."

After saying this, Harrington tidied up the books on the desk and left the classroom.

The rat man Sigma carried his things and left the classroom with his lackeys. Before leaving, he glared at Merlin and the other two.

"I really don't like his resentful little eyes. This is only true in the Arcane Academy. If it were outside, I would beat him so hard that he wouldn't even recognize himself." Chris snorted coldly as he stared at the direction Sigma left.

Fate nodded in agreement. "That's right. I should really beat him up someday to vent my anger. I'll go check when he goes out."

"By the way, Merlin, you're not really going to sell spices like the rat man said, are you? These are only worth a few dozen gold coins. If you can mix high-quality aromatherapy and body water, then they will be valuable. Depending on the quality, you can sell them for hundreds of gold coins." Fate pointed to the black pepper body water he mixed. The black stuff looked like some product of darkness.

"We have one day anyway, so there's no rush. We'll see when the time comes. I'm a little hungry, let's go and eat first." Merlin casually put the spice bag into his bag, stood up, and went to the cafeteria of the Arcane Academy with Chris and Fate.

The cafeteria of the Arcane Academy is located in the southwest corner of the entire school. The overall architectural style is similar to that of the teaching building and there is nothing special about it.

Passing through the carved wooden door, you will see a spacious and bright space with gorgeous crystal chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling, which sparkle softly in the afternoon sun.

The long dining tables were arranged in an orderly manner, each covered with a snow-white tablecloth and laid with shiny silverware and exquisite china.
