Chapter 110 Meng Qing's Part-Time Job

After walking for a while, Shi Qian realized that he seemed to have lost his student card. Without the student card, he could not enter the school and had to return the way he came. He guessed that he had dropped it at the place where he had been scammed earlier.

As soon as he returned, he saw the old man who had just tried to scam him sneaking over to the flower bed, picking up leftovers and wolfing them down. He was also about to pick up a half-empty bottle of water that someone had thrown away and open it to drink.

Shi Qian frowned. There were many patients in the hospital. Who knew if there was anything wrong with the leftovers from other people's meals?

This old man is so careless; he might have been trying to scam someone, but instead, he ended up getting sick from eating the wrong things.

Shi Qian strode over and snatched the water bottle from Meng Pang's lips.

"Don't drink it, it's unhygienic."

Shi Qian drained the water and then saw the piece of steamed bun in the old man's hand, which had been bitten down to just a tiny bit and was covered in dust. He couldn't tell if it was from the old man's hand or from the ground.

"Don't eat this either, it's dirty."

Shi Qian took the half-eaten steamed bun from the old man's hand and threw it into the nearby trash can along with the water.

"What are you doing back here?" Meng Pang was a little surprised, but he didn't show it. He didn't know why Shi Qian had suddenly returned.

He turned around, took out his phone, and secretly sent a text message to the driver, asking him to come later.

Meng Pang's eyes were a little itchy. He forgot that his hands were dirty and rubbed them. Dust got into his eyes immediately, and he felt so uncomfortable that he couldn't open them and his eyes turned red.

Shi Qian looked at the old man who had turned around. He guessed that the old man was ashamed because he had been caught stealing and eating garbage, and was too embarrassed to look at him, so he turned his back to him.

Shi Qian sighed. He had initially thought the old man was faking it, but now it seemed he might be genuine.

After all, they were eating and drinking leftover bread and water, so how good could their situation be?

Perhaps this attempt to stage an accident was truly a last resort.

Shi Qian didn't want to help, but every time he saw an elderly person of this age, he was reminded of his own grandfather, who was very kind to him but passed away from illness at a young age.

Although Shi Qian had told himself not to meddle in other people's business, he simply couldn't control himself from getting involved when the matter was right in front of him.

"Aren't you going home?" Shi Qian asked.

The old man turned around, his eyes red from rubbing, as if he had been crying. Shi Qian's heart immediately softened.

The old man's tone was not happy, "Didn't you say you were kicked out? Where can you go back to?"

"I thought this was your excuse to stage an accident." That's what Shi Qian really thought.

"You're the one who's trying to scam me? You're the one using rhetoric? Look at me, I look so honest. If I weren't desperate, would I be doing this?"

"I thought you were kind-hearted, but I never expected you to be so heartless, not giving me a single penny..."

As the old man spoke, he rubbed his eyes again, as if wiping away tears.

"I'll call the police for you..." Shi Qian was interrupted as soon as she finished speaking.

“No! We can’t call the police…” The old man paused for a moment, then continued, “A kind person called the police before, and my family took me home for a few days, but then they kicked me out again…”

"It's no use..."

Do you have any other relatives here?

"No, they all dislike me. They think I'm old and useless..."

Where have you been staying these past few days?

"I have nowhere to stay, so I usually just sit here at the hospital outpatient clinic. It's open 24 hours a day..."

Shi Qian originally wanted to book a hotel room for the old man and leave him there for the night. He planned to find out the nearest shelter tomorrow and then send him there.

The elderly man didn't even have an ID card, and he himself was under 18, so he couldn't book a room.

Should he take the elderly person to his rented apartment? But there are so many valuable items in the room, and he's afraid the elderly person might accidentally break them, and he doesn't have the money to pay for them.

After much deliberation, Shi Qian decided to take the old man back to his rented place, even if it meant locking up the rooms.

Since he's decided to help, he'll help to the end. Call him a saint or a pushover if he thinks the old man is a fraud, then he'll accept it.

Shi Qian checked the time and figured there was still time.

“Come on, you can stay at my place for now. I’ll look around for a place nearby to take in homeless elderly people like you in the next couple of days.”

Meng Pang never expected things to take such a dramatic turn. He messaged the driver saying he didn't need to come, and then happily followed Shi Qian away.

Shi Qian had already returned the apartment he had rented before, so he had to bring him to the new one.

Meng Pang kept looking at Shi Qian the whole way. Shi Qian had a straight face, took out a loaf of bread and a bottle of milk from his schoolbag, and handed them to Meng Pang.

"Eat up, have something to eat first."

Then he took out an identical one from his backpack, which he had just bought when he passed by the convenience store.

I was so hungry that my stomach ached, and I couldn't bear to go back to my dorm to order food.

Meng Pang didn't say anything, silently unwrapped the bread, and started eating.

Before long, the two arrived at Shi Qian's place.

Meng Pang looked him over and thought, "Not bad, he has good taste."

"This is the house I rented. Don't touch anything in it, or we won't be able to afford to pay for it even if we sell ourselves."

"Wear these clothes for now, they should be fine." Shi Qian took out a package from his backpack, inside which he had haphazardly stuffed a few clothes. He had just stopped to buy them from someone's stall on his way here. Anyway, there was heating in the house, so he wouldn't be cold wearing these.

"I need to go back to school. Don't go into the locked rooms inside. Just stay in the first room on the right. You can use everything you need in the room."

"I ordered some food for you. It will be delivered to your door in a bit. Go get it when you hear a knock," Shi Qian said, squatting by the entrance tying her shoelaces. After standing up, she took something out of her bag. "Here's some money. You can use it to buy food these next few days."
