Chapter 44: Not Friends at All

Although the Song family is said to be an artistic family, they are actually not on the same level as the truly wealthy families in the capital, but they are much better off than Lin Youdao's main family.

Lin Youdao got a job at a decent company thanks to the Song family's company, and he receives a fixed salary every month. Although the Song family doesn't care about the amount of money he earns, it's still much more than what he earned working on construction sites before.

Moreover, the work is all done in the office, without having to be out in the wind, sun, or rain, doing manual labor, just typing on a keyboard and formatting a few documents, and the day's work is over.

Because Lin Youdao got the job through connections, and everyone knew he was a "connected" person, they wouldn't make things difficult for him and assigned him easy, low-brain-intensive tasks.

With his youngest son's good fortune in establishing a connection with Fu Xiuhan, the young master of the Fu family, the Song family also received a boost. Lin Youdao was transferred to work at Fu Xiuhan's older brother's company, securing a nominal position with a significantly increased salary.

Therefore, he taught Song Qi from a young age to maintain a good relationship with Fu Xiuhan and to always give way to this young master. Song Qi was very obedient, knowing that there was something to gain by staying by Fu Xiuhan's side.

Although Fu Xiuhan's temperament was average and he had many of the spoiled traits of a rich young master, the things that slipped through his fingers were far better than what he received from the Song family.

The Song family is euphemistically called an artistic family, but in reality, they have long since declined and only have the title left. Lin's father has three children, and his mother is the second oldest, with an older brother and a younger sister.

My mother's eldest brother occupied the Song family's resources that were truly beneficial to them, and my mother's younger sister also married a rich man through family connections.

Only her mother, caught in the middle, was suddenly ostracized by the family because she had taken a liking to a man that no one else liked.

When Song Qi was a child, he wondered why his mother hadn't married a rich man before the family completely declined, so that he would be a rich second-generation now.

When Song Qi was a child, he heard some stories about his father from the adults. They said that his father was a country bumpkin who had never gone to college and could only work on construction sites. If his mother hadn't been blind and taken a liking to him, he probably would never have been able to enter a big family like the Song family.

Song Qi suddenly felt ashamed of his father, thinking he was nothing and had nothing, which made him have no status in the Song family.

Song Qi followed Fu Xiuhan around school every day. Seeing everything Fu Xiuhan had, he was extremely jealous. Why wasn't he like him? Why were others born to be the chosen ones, while he was like a slave, kneeling and licking Fu Xiuhan's boots every day?

Actually, Fu Xiuhan didn't pay attention to Song Qi from the beginning. It was just that Fu Xiuhan was accidentally locked in the toilet once, and Song Qi happened to pass by and opened the door for Fu Xiuhan. Fu Xiuhan felt that Song Qi had saved him, so he treated Song Qi differently from others.

Song Qi had no intention of becoming friends with Fu Xiuhan. He knew that these rich kids looked down on them, and he didn't want to go out of his way to be disliked.

But when his family found out that Song Qi and Fu Xiuhan had some connection at school, those who had previously treated him indifferently suddenly changed their attitudes, praising him for being smart and quick-witted, and saying that he was lucky to be friends with Fu Xiuhan.

Song Qi used to study hard, hoping to gain the approval of the Song family through good grades, but no matter how hard he tried, no one paid any attention to him, as if getting good grades was something he was supposed to do.

And now, without doing anything, just because she talked to Fu Xiuhan a few more times, her status at home has instantly improved.

He found everything ridiculous and absurd.

All my hard work over the years is no match for being someone's lackey.

Although Song Qi felt uncomfortable, he still tried to get closer to Fu Xiuhan every day. After spending a lot of time with Fu Xiuhan, he realized that his calm and cold appearance was just an act, and that he was actually a spoiled and childish young master.

He was cold to people he didn't know well, simply because his older brother told him that for people of their status, being aloof in public could avoid a lot of trouble.

Thanks to his friendship with Fu Xiuhan, Song Qi attended the same school as Fu Xiuhan all the way. Everyone in the school was either rich or noble. Originally, Song Qi would not have been able to go there at all, but because of Fu Xiuhan, everything went smoothly and naturally.

When Fu Xiuhan was in his first year of high school, he was to be sent to Yancheng because of his family's circumstances. When Lin Youdao found out, he told him to transfer schools immediately and go with him, so that he could take good care of Fu Xiuhan and that he would have many benefits in the future.

Song Qi was reluctant to come at the time, but when he learned that Fu Xiuhan was transferring schools, he felt relieved and thought he was finally free.

Although he had access to all kinds of resources by Fu Xiuhan's side, Song Qi was too arrogant. He never thought that Fu Xiuhan would treat him as a friend. He believed that he was just Fu Xiuhan's study companion, Fu Xiuhan's servant, Fu Xiuhan's toy, something that Fu Xiuhan could discard at any time.

In particular, there was one time when Song Qi saw the pendant around Fu Xiuhan's neck sticking out and curiously wanted to take a closer look. As soon as he reached out, Fu Xiuhan pushed him away abruptly and told Song Qi to get lost and not to touch his things.

It was only at this moment that Song Qi truly understood that he and Fu Xiuhan would never be friends. The vast difference in their social status and family backgrounds told him that he and Fu Xiuhan could not be friends.

So when Fu Xiuhan wanted to transfer schools and Lin Youdao suggested that he go with him, Song Qi's first reaction was to refuse.

Later, the Song family all came up to persuade Song Qi to be sensible, because this was not just his matter, but a matter concerning the entire Song family. They forcibly transferred him to Yancheng, to the same school as Fu Xiuhan.

When Fu Xiuhan learned that Song Qi was going to transfer schools with him, he was deeply moved and said that Song Qi was indeed his best friend.

Upon hearing this, Song Qi could only laugh. How could he possibly be this young master's best friend? Friend was such a luxury for Song Qi.

He was always busy taking care of Fu Xiuhan, so he had no time to make any so-called friends.

I just wanted to take a look at his things, and he slapped my hand away violently. What kind of friend is that?

Fu Xiuhan just needed a dog by his side, and I just happened to be there at the right time, becoming the dog he was most comfortable using.

Song Qi neither refuted Fu Xiuhan's words nor confessed that he didn't want to go to Yan City at all. He was enjoying the best educational resources here and had no desire to go to such a far place to study.

But he couldn't say anything and could only assume that he had taken the initiative to accompany him to transfer schools.

For the Song family, studying was not an important thing.

His biggest task was to serve Fu Xiuhan well.

How ridiculous! Was he born a slave?
