After talking with Yan Zhengming, Shi Qian returned to the classroom. Overjoyed by the new income, she forgot to buy something to eat when she passed the school's convenience store, and ended up starving, lying on her desk.
When Meng Qing saw Shi Qian return, she was lying listlessly. She took out milk and bread from the drawer and gently nudged Shi Qian's arm.
"Would you like some?"
"Yes, I will."
Shi Qian looked up and saw the bread and milk, and agreed without hesitation.
Meng Qing inserted the straw and held it to Shi Qian's lips.
"I can do it myself."
Since Meng Qing returned from the competition, Shi Qian felt that he had changed, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what was different.
Meng Qing took a cushion out of her bag and placed it behind Shi Qian, saying, "You'll be more comfortable leaning against this."
"Oh, okay, thank you."
After finishing breakfast, Shi Qian felt much better. She didn't say anything more, put the back pillow on the table, and went to sleep while hugging it.
Today was so exhausting, Shi Qian was so tired she couldn't stay awake any longer.
The school bell rang, and Sun Hongru stepped into the classroom. She immediately saw Shi Qian slumped over his desk and frowned.
Sun Hongru is the math teacher of Class 1. She knew that Shi Qian had gone to the academic affairs director several times after he returned, asking him to transfer Shi Qian to another class.
She never teaches struggling students, finding it too much trouble. In her mind, only high-achieving students deserve to attend her classes.
Unfortunately, the dean of academic affairs did not grant her request, so Sun Hongru was very dissatisfied with Shi Qian.
He knew that Shi Qian was a poor relative whom the Shi family had taken in for financial support. She despised such bloodsuckers and parasites more than anything else in her life. She was being helped but didn't know how to work hard, just wasting money. She slept in class and was like a lump of mud.
She had overheard some gossip on her way to the classroom, saying that Shi Qian had stolen some sheet music from Shi Yan. Such a dishonest student is a disgrace to Class 1.
Sun Hongru valued Shi Yan highly because Shi Yan had good grades and was her math class representative. Most importantly, Sun Hongru had seen Shi Yan's older brother attend a parent-teacher conference before. He was a very handsome man, and it was said that he was the president of the Shi family company and was still single.
Sun Hongru fell in love with Brother Shi Yan at first sight. How wonderful it would be to be with such a good man.
If I could marry into the Shi family, wouldn't I no longer have to teach at No. 1 Middle School in such a stifling way?
Therefore, Sun Hongru usually takes care of Shi Yan in various ways in order to maintain a good relationship with the Shi family.
Although Shi Qian was also a member of the Shi family, she didn't need to curry favor with a poor relative who was practically unrelated to her.
She glanced at Shi Yan's seat, which was still empty. She heard that he had been beaten by Shi Qian or something and had been sent to the infirmary. Sun Hongru was furious just looking at such a bad student.
She had to help Shi Yan vent his anger, even if it was just out of goodwill as Shi Yan's future sister-in-law.
Sun Hongru stood on the podium, cleared her throat, and said, "Some people got into Class 1 through connections. Not only are their grades bad, but they also don't know how to pay attention in class. They just sleep during class, wasting such excellent teaching resources!"
"I'm not the kind of teacher who's afraid of trouble. No matter how powerful your connections are, if you don't follow my rules in my class, get out!"
Class 1 fell silent instantly. Everyone knew that Sun Hongru was very short-tempered. Usually, when someone went to ask her a question, she would impatiently send them away and tell them that they hadn't been paying attention in class and that they should go back and read more books and do more practice problems.
Therefore, no one dared to ask Sun Hongru questions afterward. In addition, Sun Hongru liked to occasionally scold a few people who did not perform well during class, so everyone was a little afraid of her.
After all, Sun Hongru seems to be an excellent teacher who was recruited from Beijing by No. 1 High School. She is not old, only in her early thirties, but has rich teaching experience. It is said that she has taught several top scorers in mathematics.
Therefore, although everyone harbored resentment, they dared not show it, since they would still need Sun Hongru's teaching for the next year.
I can graduate in just one year, there's no need to ruin my relationship with Sun Hongru, studying is more important.
Therefore, Sun Hongru started cursing again today, and no one dared to say a word.
When Sun Hongru said "through connections," they could roughly guess who she was referring to. There were only four students in the class who got in through connections.
Fu Xiuhan and Song Qi transferred from the capital and both had good grades. The poor grades Sun Hongru mentioned couldn't possibly be theirs.
Meng Qing and the others had also heard about him. They heard that he had good grades and even participated in a physics competition, winning first place. Someone who is good at physics is unlikely to be bad at math, so they weren't talking about him.
That left only one person. Some people looked back at Shi Qian sitting in the back row, and sure enough, he was sleeping face down.
If there are no surprises, Shi Qian is the person Sun Hongru is mocking right now because of connections. After all, almost the whole school knows this weirdo who has never taken an exam and whose grades are probably not very good.
Although the others didn't particularly like Shi Qian, they found him more agreeable than Sun Hongru. At least this "connected" student hadn't caused any trouble or bullied them in all the time since arriving in Class 1.
So what if they drag the class down? Some people might care, but some students are more clear-headed. The college entrance exam isn't determined by the class average, so dragging the class down ultimately doesn't affect them.
Since it's none of their business, why should they waste their time hating Shi Qian? They'd be better off doing a couple more practice tests.
Sun Hongru was furious when she saw that Shi Qian remained lying down without moving after she said a few words. She just didn't like Shi Qian.
"Hey you sitting by the window in the last row, wake up your deskmate."
Meng Qing gently touched Shi Qian's arm and called his name softly. He didn't know what was wrong with Sun Hongru today, as she had never interfered with Shi Qian's sleeping habits before.
Just as Shi Qian was about to fall asleep, she was suddenly woken up by someone touching her. She frowned, raised her head slightly, and looked confused and impatient.
"Shi Qian, right? Come up to the stage and give a speech."
Sun Hongru turned around and wrote a problem on the blackboard. It was another variation of the bonus question she had assigned yesterday. It was more than just a slightly difficult question; it was beyond the syllabus and required some university-level math concepts.
She originally wanted to kick Shi Qian out of the classroom and make him stand outside as punishment, but then she felt that would be too lenient on him.
So he called Shi Qian to the podium, deliberately gave him a problem to solve, and when Shi Qian couldn't solve it, he took the opportunity to criticize him and set an example for the other students in the class.
When everyone saw the question on the blackboard, they all took a deep breath. This was even more difficult than the bonus assignment given yesterday. Some people could already tell that Sun Hongru just wanted to find an excuse to scold Shi Qian.
"Please do this problem."
Shi Qian slowly strolled up to the podium, glancing down at the questions on the blackboard.
Sun Hongru had long guessed that Shi Qian couldn't possibly do it; she was just trying to annoy Shi Qian.
"These are all knowledge points that have been taught. If you don't even know this, you shouldn't take the college entrance exam. You should go back to your hometown to farm and have more time to make money."
Shi Qian raised an eyebrow, glanced at Sun Hongru, and then slowly spoke.
"Teacher, you wrote the question wrong."
