Chapter 193 Brother-in-law

Lu Shifeng returned to the capital after many years. After his mother's death, his father was devastated and never recovered.

When Lu Shifeng learned of his mother's death, he locked himself in his room and cried for two days. After attending his mother's funeral, Lu Shifeng returned to the capital.

His beloved mother was gone, and the entire Lu family home became empty. Lu Shifeng began to complain about why his father had argued with his mother.

If my father had been more accommodating to my mother back then, she wouldn't have insisted on returning to Yancheng, and she wouldn't have had the car accident.

Lu Shifeng was still in high school at the time, and his belated rebellious phase finally arrived. He had a big fight with Lu Jingyan.

Lu Shifeng said that Lu Jingyan was autocratic and domineering, and that it was because of him that the family fell apart and that his mother got into trouble.

Lu Shifeng spoke without thinking; he missed his mother terribly and was unaware that his father was also feeling extremely guilty and sad at that moment.

Lu Jingyan remained silent.

After Lu Shifeng was admitted to university, he moved out and lived on his own. After completing his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral studies, he left the capital and went to his mother's hometown.

He couldn't explain why he wanted to study medicine back then; he just kept thinking about the image of his mother being in a car accident and not being able to be saved.

He knew that the doctors who tried to save him back then had done their best, but he couldn't shake the nightmare of not being able to save him.

He later had frequent dreams in which his mother was taken to his hospital after the car accident, and he saved her life.

After regaining consciousness, I couldn't come to my senses for a long time.

It wasn't Lu Shifeng's fault that he couldn't be saved back then, but he couldn't get over it in his heart.

After graduation, he did not stay in Beijing, but flew directly to Yancheng and joined an ordinary hospital.

He lives a simple life, and apart from working at the hospital, he occasionally goes to the surrounding areas to practice medicine.

When I have free time, I go to bookstores and can sit there for an entire afternoon.

Two years into his job, he heard a colleague mention a strange case. Intrigued, Lu Shifeng decided to take a look.

He arrived at the Shi family home and saw the child lying on the hospital bed, very weak, as if he would stop breathing at any moment.

Looking at the person lying on the bed, Lu Shifeng vaguely thought of his mother, and he made up his mind to cure the child.

Lu Shifeng came to see me several times, prescribed some medicine, and combined it with acupuncture. The effect wasn't significant, but it was much better than the previous doctor.

Gradually, Lu Shifeng became the child's attending physician. He knew that the child's name was Shi Qian and that he was the youngest son of the Shi family.

Lu Shifeng felt very close to Shi Qian, as if they had known each other for a long time.

However, Shi Qian was often not fully conscious. When she was sick, she would vaguely hold his hand and refuse to let go, constantly whispering "brother".

Lu Shifeng patted Shi Qian on the back reassuringly, probably treating him like his own brother.

Under Lu Shifeng's care, Shi Qian's condition finally stabilized a lot compared to before. She was able to jump and bounce around, so Lu Shifeng gradually reduced the number of times he came over.

After Shi Qian returned to school, Lu Shifeng never saw her again.

Lu Shifeng told Meng Pang about Meng Qing's situation. After Meng Qing returned to the Meng family, Meng Pang even took Meng Qing on a special trip to Yan City to thank him.

At Meng Qing's birthday banquet, Meng Pang insisted that Lu Shifeng must return no matter what, saying that after so many years away from the capital, it was time to come back and visit.

Lu Shifeng wanted to refuse, but Meng Qing sent him many messages, completely unlike the ruthless CEO Meng he had heard about in the business world.

Lu Shifeng could sense that Meng Qing's attitude towards him had become more polite and courteous recently, and even a little affectionate, leading him to believe that Meng Qing must be treating him like an older brother.

After all, the Meng family and the Lu family had a close relationship before. If Guan Yao hadn't had an accident and Meng Qing hadn't gone missing, he and Meng Qing would probably have grown up together like brothers.

Well, it's time to go back to the capital. Lu Shifeng exiled himself to Yan City, but over the past few years he has gradually come to terms with it.

He wasn't the only one heartbroken back then; his own father was also deeply saddened. Otherwise, he wouldn't still be unable to let go after all these years, and wouldn't have trapped himself in the same place.

Lu Shifeng followed Lu Yibai in and first went to greet Lu Shicheng.

Lu Shicheng hugged his nephew, who had been away from home for many years, tightly. "Shifeng, you really have a heart of yours. You haven't come back to see your uncle for so long. I've missed you so much!"

"Are you happy working in Yancheng? Why aren't you using the money I sent you? Do you have enough money to live on?"

"How come you've lost so much weight? If you're not eating well over there, just come home. We don't care about your dad's condition. Come here to your uncle's place. Isn't my home your home too?"

“Zhiting talks about you every day. He used to love following you around. He wouldn’t listen to anyone else in the family, only you.”

"Look, as soon as you're not around, no one can control him. He doesn't study properly every day and instead runs a messy gaming club."

Lu Shicheng glanced into the corner and saw Lu Zhiting and his classmates. He patted Lu Shifeng on the shoulder and told him to look over there.

"Look, there he is. It looks like he's bullying a classmate. Shi Feng, now that you're back, please keep an eye on him for your uncle!"

Lu Shifeng nodded, smiled at Lu Shicheng, and then looked at Meng Qing standing to the side and nodded.

"Happy birthday, Meng Qing. Welcome back. This is a birthday present for you."

Lu Shifeng handed a bag he was carrying to Meng Qing, who politely accepted it; it was indeed a watch.

Lu Shifeng, Shi Qian's brother-in-law, used to love giving watches as gifts. Shi Qian's cabinet full of watches were given by Lu Shifeng, and so were Shi Qian's cabinet full of watches.

Lu Shifeng chatted with Meng Qing for a few words, then walked towards Lu Zhiting's side. He thought he had just seen an acquaintance, and the Shi family's child seemed to be there as well.

At this moment, Lu Zhiting was clinging to Shi Qian, holding onto Shi Qian's hand tightly.

"Bro, pro, Dad, can you carry me? Can you play a few games with me?"

"If you take me out to play, I'll immediately call you my dad!"

Shi Qian: "..."

Shi Qian couldn't break free, and the others couldn't pry Lu Zhiting off either.

Lu Zhiting was like an octopus; if he shook off one hand, another would keep coming, an endless stream of hands constantly reaching out.

He was a completely different person from before, and he would say anything to get Shi Qian to play games with him.

When Lu Shifeng arrived, he happened to see Lu Zhiting clinging to Shi Qian.

"Lu Zhiting, are you bullying your classmates again?"

Upon hearing the familiar voice, Lu Zhiting looked up and saw Lu Shifeng standing not far away. He immediately jumped up in surprise, rushed over, and hugged Lu Shifeng tightly.

"Brother! You've finally come back to see me!" Lu Zhiting was very excited.

"Alright, alright, that's enough. You're a grown man."

Lu Shifeng struggled to pull Lu Zhiting off him. This child, after all these years, is still the same.

"Brother! Let me introduce you to a classmate, my new good friend, Shi Qian!"
