Chapter 78: I feel bad. I hate working overtime on Saturdays! There is nothing behind the bushes...

There was nothing behind the bushes.

The peeper seemed to be convinced that I couldn't see him, so he didn't respond to my question. I didn't hesitate any longer and reached out to touch the air. It was clearly transparent, but I could touch something soft.

The shadow wrapped around the fingertips like a thread, and then devoured the body it was connected to, forcing it to reveal its form. The opponent used more like divine art than magic.

Things involving gods always have extraordinary effects, and normally no one would notice him. Even now that I am using this vest, I cannot directly see his location.

However, if the god behind him knew my identity, he would definitely not let him use this kind of magic.

After all, the source of the secret divine arts is the Lord of Darkness, and this body is his follower.

The light quickly stained the other person's body, outlining a hazy outline. Before I could see who it was, the peeper suddenly jumped out of the bushes and ran away into the distance.

"I'll go find him."

As soon as I finished speaking, the mermaid disappeared from my side.

The words stuck in my throat could not be uttered. I looked helplessly in the direction they left and just wanted to sigh.

Just go.

Then can you at least take me with you?

*

When I followed the scent and found the mermaid, he was running somewhere. The thin figure just stopped, and I emerged from the shadows and landed beside him.

The CD player nodded in greeting and then pointed silently ahead.

A shadow flashed and then disappeared into the deeper darkness. The back of the figure looked familiar to me. There was no doubt that this was the purpose of this trip.

After crossing the jungle, we came to an open space. The escapee did not continue to run, but turned around and faced us alone.

The moonlight fell on him through the gaps between the leaves, illuminating his pair of faintly shining golden eyes. The wolf ears on his head swayed gently. The surface of his fur was rippling with soft, tiny silver waves. As the wind blew, the familiar face was completely exposed in front of me -

It's really Sean.

“You’re finally here.”

I stopped in front of him. A shadow surged in the middle of us, expanding and contracting. "Sorry for the wait. Did you lead us here on purpose to set up an ambush?"

"There is no ambush. This is my personal matter."

Sean answered straightforwardly. He stared at me, not intending to miss any small expression: "I was once a sacrifice in the Beast God's revival ceremony, and inherited a part of His power. Since I came to this forest, I have heard something calling me. Until tonight, I am sure that it is the call from the Beast God's believers in the forest. At this point, I think we have the same goal."

"If you're willing, we can work together temporarily."

“You came here with the Glorious Church, right? Why don’t you seek their help? Let me guess, if the Glorious Church finds out about those Beast God believers, they will definitely kill them, but you don’t want that—”

I deliberately dragged out the last syllable of my words and looked at him meaningfully. "You came to me because you were worried that they would attack you and let the Beast God plunder your power, but you also wanted to deceive them to gain this power. To do this, you must find someone who can protect you."

"But what good will this do us?"

Sean replied calmly, "The Church of Glory has sent quite a few people this time, and even sent the current Son of Glory. He is a favored one of God and is very powerful. Even a believer in the God of Death next to you who is as strong as you may not be able to escape from them. I can secretly mislead the direction of the Church of Glory's investigation and help you escape."

The CD player looked at me, silently seeking my opinion. He would not go beyond the rules in such matters, and this small action also brought me the attention of Sean. He knew who was the real decision maker in this matter.

I raised my eyebrows and suddenly asked him, "How do you know we are not here for the Glorious Church?"

“Although the God of Death is cooperating with the Lord of Darkness, who is a mortal enemy of the Church of Light, there is no need for you to get involved. The Church of Light is the number one church in the world today, and both the Lord of Light and the Lord of Darkness have some vague relationship with the God of Death. Based on this alone, there is no need for you to challenge the authority of Light.”

"It seems that the Beast God left you a lot of information."

Sean avoided the question of whether he inherited the legacy of the Beast God: "This is not an important matter. The point is that those Beast God believers will be very happy to see this. As long as we cooperate, we can find a way to wipe them out."

"Okay, but why would you do that?"

"I have my own purpose, and you have yours too. There's no need to make it so clear, is there?"

"Okay, happy cooperation."

I snorted and laughed, and stopped nagging about this topic. No matter what, I still have to leave some room for the little wolf I raised. To be fair, the one in front of me was already surprising enough for me.

Unlike his usual self, the werewolf in front of me was full of sharp aggression. I had no doubt that if I left him a gap, he would rush over excitedly and bite my neck off.

This is the case with Sean, but what about the others?

It's subtle, I always feel that I can see a lot of things with my current identity.

*

The young werewolf walked through the trees where the shadows were jagged and crisscrossed.

Something moved in the grass, and he glanced at it: "Get out."

After a while, several goblins jumped out of the bushes and knelt tremblingly in front of the werewolf: "My lord, we are here to greet you on the orders of the priest."

Sean narrowed his eyes. "How do you know it's me? I never told you who I am."

The goblin hurriedly explained: "The priest is blessed by our Lord and has the power of prophecy. It was he who told us to come here and see you at this time."

There was a hint of fear of the priest in his words. Sean looked at them for a while and sneered, "Lead the way."

I whispered to Thane, so only the two of us could hear, "They don't look like they're lying."

"No matter which one it is, you will know when you go there."

Sean answered me in his heartbeat, and walked forward without looking around. The leaves under his feet gradually became fewer and more covered with traces of people walking back and forth.

The trees above were so dense that not even a single ray of moonlight could penetrate. Walking in this area, one could not even see the road ahead. However, the two goblins seemed very skilled and did not collide with anything from start to finish.

Thane and I were equally attuned to the sight. Werewolves have night vision, and shadows are a power bestowed upon me by the Lord of Darkness.

Seeing that Sean remained silent, one of the goblins could not help but look back. Noticing that Sean was following steadily behind him, a look of surprise appeared on his face.

Not thick, but clear.

It seems that these Beast God believers are also aware of the difficulty of this road, and it should be a trick to cover up the real residence. I let go of my perception, and a thin film silently covered this area, resisting all external detection.

A powerful priest has set up a barrier here to prevent outsiders from investigating.

Suddenly, the view in front of him opened up. There were dozens of blazing braziers standing on the open ground, lighting up the area. In the front, there was a three-story altar built with bones of humans and beasts, including some powerful monsters.

Sean's eyes fell on the left side of the altar. There stood a group of tall and burly figures. They had more or less beastly parts on their bodies, and their fancy names shone above their heads. Just seeing them, I couldn't help but twitch the corners of my mouth. Fortunately, no one saw me, so I was able to maintain my image.

Player, and player again.

What era is this? Even the Beast God camp doesn't even play. With this title, you can't even enter the main city of the Glory and Darkness camps. You are really stubborn.

I quickly made a judgment and cast my eyes to the right where three two-headed ogre priests stood together, staring straight at Sean. Their aggressive eyes revealed a ferocity and greed. The priests were wise men among the ogres, and they would become more calm as they grew older. Such restlessness could only prove one thing: they were quite young.

This is not a good thing. It proves that after the fall of the Beast God, his followers have mastered a new method of making two-headed ogre priests.

The two goblins couldn't stand the gloomy aura and they stepped forward tremblingly and lay on the ground.

"High Priest, we are back."

An old figure stood on the altar and turned around. He stood in the only place not illuminated by the fire, and his figure almost blended into the darkness. The staff in his left hand was inlaid with nine small skulls, which made creepy wails from time to time. In his right hand was an ancient horn that looked like it was made of the tusks of some beast.

The loose skin and wrinkles on his face proved his age, and two pairs of sinister and cold eyes flashed from the goblin to Sean. He was old enough, which proved that he was wise enough.

I couldn't recognize who this was. At least in my time, no one would remember the name of a small two-headed ogre. But here, he was obviously a very important person.

"Welcome, Master Beast."

This is the name given to the Sons of God by the Beast God's followers. They believe that all the Sons of God are children made of flesh and blood by the Beast God. When they grow up, they will be able to be reborn by dripping blood like their fathers and command the beasts.

Sean didn't buy it at all, and his tone was straight: "Forget the compliments. You specially called me here, so there must be something more important."

The old priest's smile grew stronger. "As expected of you, Lord Beast. For hundreds of years, you are the only one who can hear the call of my Lord's horn. This proves the purity of your bloodline. If you are willing, I can help you awaken the bloodline of the Beast God in your body."

"I don't believe you don't know where this bloodline comes from. Another group of Beast God believers used me as a sacrifice, and you asked me to be your Holy Son. It turns out that the slave owner's method of giving a piece of candy for a whip also applies to your selection of Holy Sons."

Facing Sean's ridicule, the old priest remained calm. He waved his hand gently, and the two-headed ogre priest on the right came out.

"The two-headed ogre priest who attacked you earlier is our father. We are sorry. We are here to apologize to you."

The three two-headed ogre priests bowed, then drew a dagger and cut open their chests without hesitation. A large amount of blood spurted out, staining the ground red. This was not enough, so they pulled out their two hearts and crushed them in front of Sean.

For a family to have four two-headed ogre priests, it must be an extremely talented bloodline.

Even a two-headed ogre couldn't survive after having its two hearts taken out. The old priest simply made a simple move and directly cut off their continuation.

Sean's pupils constricted.

"I know this simple act won't be enough to calm your anger, so I've prepared something else."

The old priest bowed slightly and said sincerely. As these words fell, the players who acted as the atmosphere group opened their packages one after another, and dozens of ogre heads appeared out of thin air on the open ground.

"These are all the remaining members of this clan. All forty-six of them are here, including the elderly and children. I think this should be enough to show our sincerity."

For the Beast God Church, which has always been weak, this is undoubtedly a big bloodletting.

Sean stared at the heads and players for a long time before nodding: "Let's talk business. I can't trust you. Who knows if you want to use me as a sacrifice or do something to me."

The ogre priest's two heads smiled the same smile. Although they tried to be friendly, the sharp fangs protruding from their upper lips greatly weakened the feeling he wanted.

"Since you are here, you must have something to ask for. No matter how much you are despised by the world, my Lord's power is still extraordinary. He can turn a mortal into a beast king who commands a group of beasts and easily destroy cities and countries. Wild beasts will become your people, and so will demons. And for orcs, His power can drive away the curse in their blood—"

"I guess that's what you want. No problem, we can all do it."

The two-headed ogre opened his arms as if embracing the world, with a frenzied light in his eyes.

"As long as you believe in my Lord, you will get everything you want, whether it's gold, silver, treasures, power or strength!"

"That's great. Do you have any evidence? Words are not enough. You have to show some proof. After all, a truly capable person wouldn't end up in a place like this."

The sharp gaze moved around and returned to a not-so-subtle sarcasm.

The two-headed ogre priest chuckled, seemingly not caring about this little thing at all: "Of course, please come to my side."

The werewolf narrowed his eyes and looked at him for a while, then stood beside him leisurely. The priest's eyes secretly swept across the shadows under the other's feet: "You don't seem to be worried about any accidents in your way."

“I trust your credibility.”

The two of them were like dwarfs in different forms (notorious profiteers) communicating with each other with a smile on their faces, giving off an aura that would keep people away.

The old priest looked down again and said meaningfully: "Since we have reached an alliance, I think the one hiding in the dark can come out, right? I have no intention of taking action."

The shadows beneath Sean's feet began to boil, creating tiny ripples like rainstorms.

Then, a shadow emerged from the center of the ripples like a thin piece of paint, and the light of the brazier was completely swallowed up by the shadow. The players' eyes suddenly became eager, staring at the slimy shadow flowing and forming a line of words in the air.

[I am not interested in your deal, I am only here to protect him. ]

There was a clear rejection in his words. The old priest nodded with a smile, not seeming to care: "Please rest assured that the Beast is a unique existence to us. Its importance is even far greater than those saints of the big churches. We will not do anything unnecessary."

The shadows collapsed to the ground.

The old priest smiled and said, "If you agree, please come here again tomorrow night. Then, we will hold a blood awakening ceremony for you."

*

Just as he had come, Sean left alone.

He shook off the pursuers sent by the old priest and found a safe area.

"Come out."

I finally emerged from the shadows. Standing in the dark, Sean's expression was not eye-catching. It was not until I stood in front of him that I noticed that his forehead was soaked with cold sweat.

"I thought you wouldn't be nervous."

"We're probably not close enough to talk about this."

Sean glanced at me and his expression turned cold again. I looked at him with interest. I didn't expect Sean to be so unkind in front of outsiders.

Sean and I left in different directions to make sure the other party wouldn't track us.

As soon as I reached the safe area, the figure of the CD player miraculously appeared beside me: "Are you going back?"

I nodded. "It's time to go back. Now that we know where the Beast God's followers are hiding, we should be more careful next time."

There is still some time before dawn, and I must return to the tent before then to prevent others from looking for me.

I returned to my tent quietly. The magic I had set was not triggered, which proved that no one was looking for me. I took off my coat and lay down in bed. Not long after, I heard the sound of the knight getting up outside.

The knights always get up early, they have to do a training before prayer. I closed my eyes, intending to get a little sleep before being woken up for morning prayer.

It's okay to stay up late once in a while, but this body is still small and I think I can still grow taller. Otherwise, I have to look up at others every time, which is really not friendly to my neck.

Just as I closed my eyes, something came in from the door of the tent. I heard a faint sound of fabric rubbing against each other, and then something stuck to my side through the quilt.

Soft and warm, the big wolf clung to my quilt, dispelling the slight chill in the air.

I was so annoyed. This guy is so busy. He went out for a walk first, and then he came to call me. I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep.

Sean nudged my face with his head, forcing me to open my eyes. The golden animal eyes looked at me with a hint of coquettishness.

This look was completely different from when he left a few hours ago, and he gently rubbed my chin.

"Brother, I have something to tell you."

I suddenly woke up and reached out to touch his head.

"What's wrong?"

"Brother, I went out last night because I couldn't sleep. When I went out to relax, I ran into the secret conversations of the Death God believers and the Dark God believers. While escaping, I found the gathering place of the Beast God believers."

Sean lied without blinking. If I hadn't witnessed their negotiation with my own eyes, I would have been fooled by this guy.

"I found a way to escape. There will be a ceremony tomorrow, and I plan to change my identity and go in to take a look."

The wolf's eyes flickered faintly in the darkness. He looked at me seriously and said, "Brother, let's go and get them all."

This kid, he got into my bed early in the morning just to convince me to beat myself?

I pinched his ear and said, "Do you know that it is dangerous to go deep into danger alone?"

"As long as I can help my brother, it doesn't matter even if it's dangerous."

The wolf rubbed my palm in a flattering manner. He purred softly from his throat, and his beautiful pupils reflected my image, like words engraved on gold.

I patted his mouth, and Sean immediately dropped his ears as if hurt. Which of these two words was true?
