Chapter 8: The Fourth Wife is Still Reliable
Ye Qianning also followed over. The little person lying on the bed was no more than six or seven years old. Her cheeks were red and her mouth was covered with blisters. The fourth grandmother lifted her clothes and saw that her body was covered with red pustules. Some of them were scratched and pus was stained on her clothes.
The fourth grandmother was shocked when she saw it. She had seen people with rashes, but she had never seen a child in such a state.
"Fourth Aunt, look at her back." Ye Qianning said.
The fourth wife gently lifted up the little princess' body. There was only a patch of red rash on one side of her back, but no pustules.
Ye Qianning was puzzled. Generally speaking, she shouldn't have spider rash at such a young age. Spider rash mostly occurs in adults. Some of the spots on her body looked like spider rash, while others were another type of rash.
"How is it? Can it be cured?" the princess asked anxiously.
Fourth Granny's forehead was dripping with sweat. "Cure it?" How could she cure it? This wasn't just any rash. She had never seen one before.
"It can be cured. Prepare hot water, silver needles, wine, ink, and a brush." Ye Qianning said.
The fourth wife was stunned and looked back at her.
The princess was extremely anxious. After hearing that she could be cured, she didn't care about anything else: "Hurry, go and prepare."
Several maids hurried out to prepare.
"Mom...I'm itchy, itchy..." The princess was still crying restlessly.
The princess couldn't hold back her tears. She sat at the head of the bed and stroked the little princess's head to comfort her: "Xiang'er, be good. The doctor said it can be cured. Soon we will be free of pain and itching."
"The princess' medicine is here." The maid walked in with the freshly brewed medicine in her hand.
"Doctor, this is the medicine prescribed by the imperial physician. Can I take it?" asked the princess.
Fourth Auntie knows nothing about medicine and doesn’t know if it works, but since she’s here she has to pretend.
"Can drinking it relieve the symptoms?" She imitated the tone of the old village doctor when he was treating patients.
"It only relieves the symptoms temporarily. The itching starts again after a while. The imperial physician said it was just a common rash. I have been taking medicine for seven or eight days, but the rash is getting worse." The princess cried.
"Bring the medicine here for me to see."
The maid handed over the medicine.
Fourth Granny raised her nose to the medicine and sniffed it. This medicine was better than the one she had brewed, and the smell was not as strong.
Ye Qianning smelled the strong medicinal scent and knew what the herbs were in the decoction. The little princess had two kinds of rashes, and the medicines for the two rashes were almost conflicting.
Although the imperial physician's prescription can delay some symptoms, it will make another rash more severe, so she must seek external treatment for this rash and reduce internal medication.
"Don't take these medicines for now." The fourth grandmother handed the medicine to the maid, thinking to herself that it was obviously useless if the condition got worse the more she took the medicine.
Upon hearing this, Ye Qianning couldn't help but praise her. Fourth Granny was really reliable at the critical moment. Her hands were sweating from nervousness, but she didn't stutter at all when she spoke.
"Princess, everything the doctor wants is ready." The maids came in one after another.
Ye Qianning walked over and looked at the row of items. They were all OK, and then he said, "Princess, the fourth lady needs quiet time to perform acupuncture."
"The doctor is treating you. I won't disturb you." The princess was worried.
"When the princess is around, the fourth wife will get nervous, and when she gets nervous, her hands will become unstable."
"Yes, yes, this is the first time I have met the princess. As soon as the princess saw me, I became very nervous and it was difficult to give her acupuncture." The fourth grandmother was really nervous.
Upon hearing this, the maid supported the princess and advised, "Princess, let's go out and wait. I'm afraid you won't be able to bear the doctor's acupuncture."
