Chapter 12: Catching a Turtle in a Jar
It was almost midnight, the moon was dark and the wind was strong.
The village was silent.
Several dark shadows appeared at the door of Doctor Yu's house.
"Boss, the guy we are looking for is here." Li San climbed over the wall and pointed to the house on the east side of the yard.
Qiu Ming and his companions also climbed over the wall and landed on the ground with their backs bent.
They were divided into several groups, one group went door to door to kill people, and the other group went to loot property.
Qiu Ming personally led people to capture Xue Che.
They had already found out where Xue Che lived when they were wandering around the village asking around during the day.
Now catching people is as easy as taking something out of a bag.
After they succeeded, they set the entire mountain on fire.
Qiu Ming ordered: "Go and bring that kid out. He must be given the antidote before midnight. The noble man must be kept alive."
Li San took the lead, pushed open the small room on the east side, and ran straight to the bed.
Seeing a figure vaguely lying on the bed, he directly lifted the bed curtain and tried to kidnap the person.
Li San was about to pull off the quilt when he suddenly saw a hand stretched out from the quilt and grabbed Li San's throat!
The quilt slid down, and the person sitting up inside was actually a woman.
“Uh…you…you…”
Li San's face turned red from being pinched. He wanted to fight back, but found that he had no strength left and couldn't even pry open the hand at his throat.
Outside the bed curtains, Qiu Ming and others were dumbfounded.
They wanted to rush forward, but their arms and legs seemed to be detached and unable to move.
There was a sharp pain in my chest, and then the pain spread to my limbs like vines.
"Boss, what should we do?"
Qiu Ming was sweating profusely: "It's a trick, let's go first!"
A few people moved out with difficulty and suddenly saw a bright fire at the door.
A dozen villagers holding torches surrounded the house tightly.
Hao Ren walked out of the crowd, a touch of cold moonlight flowing between his brows:
"The leader of Green Snake Village has come to our humble village. I wonder what advice you have for me?"
The disguise on Qiu Ming's face finally broke, and he looked at the people in front of him in disbelief:
"How could you... Impossible, you all clearly ate the food, and it was put in there—"
Qiu Ming was halfway through his words when he suddenly turned and shouted towards Li San:
"Li San! How dare you betray me!"
Hua Erniang walked out of the tent with a sneer on her face, still pinching Li San, who was almost dying.
Li San blushed and shook his head desperately: "No, no..."
He swore that he had really poisoned them, and he didn't know why these villagers were still standing there.
He had no idea why their identities were exposed.
Hua Erniang sneered and threw Li San to the ground. The firelight outside the door illuminated her face with a seductive look.
"You've poisoned your grandmother!"
Hua Erniang flipped her fingertips, and a gray-white pill appeared in her hand like magic, and she wanted to throw it into Qiu Ming's mouth.
"Wait a minute, Hua Erniang. This man needs to be kept for a thorough investigation." Hao Ren stopped her.
Qiu Ming turned his neck stiffly and saw that Hua Erniang was holding the Midnight Pill. An almost impossible guess flashed through his mind:
"Your last name is Hua? The Hua family of the Five Poison Valley?"
Hua Erniang raised her eyebrows and crushed the midnight pills in her hand into powder:
"When I was little, I ate midnight pills like candy and they were too bland."
The Hua family of the Five Poison Valley is the most poisonous family in the world, and everyone knows it.
Even the Midnight Pills from the Green Snake Village were obtained by Qiu Ming many years ago after he spent a large sum of money and asked several people to use their connections to obtain the recipe for the Midnight Pills from the Five Poison Valley.
Rumor has it that the Hua family has an ancestral precept that future generations of poison makers are not allowed to leave the Five Poisons Valley. Therefore, the Hua family never shows up in the underworld, remaining extremely secretive.
This is a remote and poor place, how could the Hua family appear here?
Before Qiu Ming could sort out his thoughts, there were several bangs on the door, followed by wailing.
The men sent by Qiu Ming to silence witnesses and search the mountain were tied up tightly and thrown together at the door.
They all had bruised faces and swollen noses, and their bodies were limp.
Wu Yingniang and Abao walked at the back. Wu Yingniang held a long spear with a red tassel, and the tip of the spear was stuck with a dozen snakes like a skewer.
Po was holding one in his mouth and biting it.
Wu Yingniang shook her spear and walked to Hao Ren in a heroic manner:
"Aren, everyone is here, no one is missing."
Hao Ren looked at Wu Yingniang with a soft look for a moment:
"Thank you, Yingniang."
Qiu Ming didn't know when his identity was exposed, but it was meaningless to think about it now, it was too late.
He gnashed his teeth, his eyes red and a bit crazy:
"You are quite capable. I, Qiu Ming, deserve to be killed here today. But the nobles in our Green Snake Village are not people you can afford to offend."
Hao Ren's eyes were calm, and his voice was like breaking jade against stone:
"Master Qiu, please tell me. Hao is all ears."
Then, his tone suddenly turned cold:
"Take them to the wine cellar in the back mountain and interrogate them until they confess."
Seeing that there was no room for maneuver, Qiu Ming's throat bulged and he suddenly opened his mouth. A hidden weapon the size of a date pit flew out of his mouth and headed straight for Hao Ren!
Wu Yingniang was quick-witted and quick-handed. She tensed her arms and exerted force to pull Hao Ren over, barely avoiding the hidden weapon.
Before my heart could settle down, I heard Su Zhizhi's voice coming from behind:
"Dad, Mom."
Wu Yingniang turned her head and saw the sharp edge of the hidden weapon cut through the air currents in the night, brushing past Hao Ren and heading towards the direction where Su Zhizhi was running.
The expressions of all the villagers present changed suddenly.
“Zhizhi!”
"Don't come!"
"hide!!!"
Even Kong Wu was so anxious that he ran and shouted: "Ahhh, Ahhh!"
A Bao let out a mournful cry, spread his wings and flew away on the wind.
The only one who was not nervous was Su Zhizhi.
She was running very enthusiastically. After Xue Che told her about catching a turtle in a jar today, she wanted to watch the fun tonight and almost overslept.
As soon as she called out "Dad and Mom", she stepped on a round stone and fell forward unexpectedly.
"Why--"
Su Zhizhi fell hard and cried out in pain.
There was a whoosh sound above her head and something flew past, but she didn't notice it.
The villagers who came running surrounded Su Zhizhi, their faces still showing fear.
"Zhizhi, are you hurt? Where does it hurt?" Wu Yingniang held her daughter in her arms.
Su Zhizhi raised her little face, which was covered with grass and mud, and there was a bit of confusion in her big eyes:
"Mom, did you catch the turtle in the jar?"
