Chapter 45: Luck is on fire!

Chapter 45: Luck is on fire!

Mu Chunping was also very happy to hear that Dazhu had found wild vegetables.

"Really? That's great. The fact that Dazhu can find wild vegetables means there's still life in these mountains. Our Shanglin Village is so dry the land is cracking."

The mountain is completely barren, with only rocks remaining. The presence of wild vegetables here indicates that the drought isn't as severe as it is back home. If we search carefully, even if we can't find water, we might find other food.

Those who found wild vegetables were overjoyed, while those who didn't were filled with hope, and everyone continued on their way with high spirits.

Ning Bao remembered the important matter, took out the compass and examined it carefully, then leaned close to Mu Chunping's ear and whispered,

"Dad, I've figured it out. There really is a water source in these mountains, but the water flow isn't fast; it's probably a mountain spring, and it's a bit far from here. Should we go?"

Mu Chunping was also very happy to hear about the mountain spring. He quickly called Lin Jianfei over and told him what Ning Bao had just said.

Lin Jianfei, upon hearing there was water, spoke up without hesitation.

"Yes, I definitely have to go, even if it's far."

Lin Jianfei walked to Mu Chunping's side and scooped Ningbao from his back.

"Ningbao, Uncle will carry you."

Mu Chunping was a little unhappy that his daughter had been taken away. With his sweet and soft daughter in his arms, he felt much more relaxed when walking.

Lin Jianfei had only carried Ning Bao a few hundred meters when Mu Chunping snatched her back.

As soon as Ning Bao was in Mu Chunping's arms, Lingling jumped out of the bag.

Ningbao was getting tired from being carried all the time, so she wiggled her little legs.

"Dad, I want to walk by myself."

Seeing that the mountain path wasn't too steep, Mu Chunping put Ningbao down.

Ningbao, who was finally able to get down on the ground, burst into joy. Lingling, a round little person and a round little cat, stood on her shoulder. The two looked very cute.

Suddenly, Lingling leaped and darted to the side at an astonishing speed.

"Meow meow meow!" Just as Ning Bao was about to react, she heard a series of sounds of chickens flying and cats meowing coming from the direction where Lingling had just flown.

Where there's chicken, there's meat. Ningbao took off running towards Lingling, with Mu Chunping and Lin Jianfei close behind.

A fluffy, round white cat was pressing down on a pheasant with sparse, unkempt fur.

This pheasant is quite large, weighing about two or three pounds, and it's clear that it's not a gentle pheasant that survived a famine.

"Cluck cluck! Cluck cluck!"

"Meow meow meow! Meow meow meow!"

Ning Bao was stunned; she could actually understand their conversation.

The pheasant cried out, "Little one, let me go, or I'll peck you to death!"

Lingling: "I won't let go, I won't let go! How can I let go of meat that's already in my mouth?"

Seeing Ningbao come over made Lingling even happier. She excitedly held the pheasant and showed it off to Ningbao.

"Master, come quick, I've caught you a chicken."

Ningbao quickly ran over and hugged the pheasant to her chest. Wow! We'll have chicken soup tonight!

Ningbao grew up in a Taoist temple, where, unlike Buddhist temples, it was permissible to eat meat.

However, they ate a simple diet and didn't eat meat and fish every day. Her master said that eating too much meat would stunt her growth. Ningbao didn't crave meat, but she didn't dislike it either.

She was happy to have chicken to eat, and Ningbao hugged the pheasant like a precious treasure and ran to Mu Chunping.

"Daddy, look! I caught a pheasant. Lingling found it. I'll reward Lingling with a chicken leg when we get home."

It's not unreasonable to give someone a chicken leg after catching such a big chicken. Mu Chunping took the chicken from Ning Bao's hand and nodded with a smile.

"Okay, Lingling gets a chicken leg as a reward, and the other one is yours."

The other villagers were very envious when they saw Ningbao catch a pheasant. They didn't come over to snatch it, but envy was definitely not uncommon.

"This pheasant is really big. Although it's a bit thin, it's a pheasant that runs in the mountains. The soup must be very delicious."

"Brother Chunping is really amazing, he actually managed to catch a pheasant."

Mu Chunping smiled sheepishly.

"Hehe, luck, it's all about luck!"

The presence of pheasants and wild vegetables in these mountains means there's a water source. Let's hurry, or we won't be able to get back before dark.
