Chapter 151 Youfu Arrives (Please vote and subscribe)
After a short break at noon, Luo Chong had people bring in the scaffolding, and then continued to lead people to build the house.
Wooden sticks as thick as arms were placed on the half-person-high wall, and the suspended end was tied to it with a wooden stick of the same thickness as a pillar, and then a wooden board was placed on it for people to stand on, and a simple scaffolding was ready.
Next to each bricklayer was a short basket for holding mud, which was woven by the women of the collection team with thin rattan. It was woven very tightly and there was almost no gap, just like the winnowing basket used to hold steamed buns that Luo Chong had seen in his previous life.
The remaining four workers who were not good at building walls kept fetching water and mixing mud, and then used a small cart to deliver the wet mud to each person's short basket. Others kept carrying bricks for them. Luo Chong marked the width and height of the door and window for them, and then found the two people who had been digging the well.
Luo Chong named two young men from the Xue clan who dug wells Xue Jing and Xue Zao, which, like their names, represent the work they do and are easy to remember.
14 people built the main body of the house, while Luo Chong led Xue Jing and Xue Zao to build indoor facilities, namely the stove and the kangs in the two bedrooms.
There are three main rooms, with a kitchen and dining room in the middle. A stove needs to be built on the back wall, that is, on the north wall. The remaining space is facing the main door, where a large rectangular dining table can be placed. It should be able to seat ten people to eat together, and they can also do some manual work on the table when they are not eating.
The stove in the main room spans the entire three-meter-wide room, 75 centimeters wide from the north wall to the south, with two fire holes and four stove eyes.
Among the four stove holes, a 60-cm diameter stove hole is reserved for placing a large pot, and next to it is a smaller stove hole with a diameter of only 50 cm, which is used to place a smaller pot. The other two are small stove holes with a diameter of 25 cm, which are specially used to place kettles, which can be used to boil water in winter; the remaining space of more than one meter wide is used to place pots, pans, kitchen knives and cutting boards.
The pots on the stove are not yet finished. Luo Chong plans to directly cast a batch of large copper pots with bronze. There is no problem in casting cooking utensils with bronze. Humans have been using bronze to cast tripods since before the Shang and Zhou dynasties. What is a tripod? In fact, it is a pot with three legs, and some even have ears.
The eating habits at that time were mainly frying and boiling soup, all of which were cooked with tripods. The nobles used copper tripods, and the common people used clay pots; the large tripods were used to cook rice, and the small tripods were used as tableware.
Although bronze is a heavy metal, it has been verified by history that it is still no problem to just cook a meal, not to mention that the Han tribe now uses tin bronze, which does not contain lead.
The stove in the main house is connected to the bedrooms on both sides. At the back wall of each bedroom, there is a two-meter-wide kang that spans the entire house. Inside the kang is a zigzag flue.
There is a chimney behind the stove in the main house, but there are also flues leading to the kangs in the bedrooms on both sides. At the interface between the main house and the bedroom, there is a standing floor tile as a movable plug board, which is used to open and close the connection between the stove and the kang. When it is hot, the plug board is plugged in to disconnect the heating in the bedroom. In winter, the plug board is pulled out to open the flues on both sides. The
net width of a room, not counting the thickness of the wall, is three meters. Luo Chong divided it into five layers of 60-centimeter-wide flues. First, the ground was leveled and compacted, and then a 12-centimeter-wide and 65-centimeter-high low wall was built on both sides of the bedroom as a support. Four low walls of the same size were used in the middle to divide the three-meter-wide room into five equal parts.
Smoke outlets should be left on each low wall in turn. For example, where the first floor is connected to the stove, the smoke outlet should be left on the north side, so that the heat and smoke from the stove can enter the bedroom's kang. Then the smoke outlet on the second floor should be left on the south side, so that the smoke and heat can flow to the next floor. The smoke outlet on the third floor should be left on the north side and enter the next floor, alternating from north to south, so that the smoke and heat from the stove can flow through the entire kang.
Then build a chimney at the outermost part of the bedroom, that is, the outermost part of the entire house, as the final smoke outlet.
After the indoor kang is built with a flue, use fired large bricks, that is, 5 cm thick, 30 cm wide, and 60 cm long paving bricks, to cover the flue horizontally. Only five rows are needed to cover the entire flue, and the joints are carefully filled with clay. Finally, a layer of lime mortar can be applied to seal it to prevent smoke from leaking in the house during later use.
After the whole kang is completed, it is a three-meter-long, two-meter-wide, 70-centimeter-high, hollow flat brick platform, which occupies half of the area of the whole house. At least five adults can lie down and sleep on it.
If there is one man and two women in a family, the child can sleep with the adults first, and when the child is older, he can sleep in another bedroom by himself. Or one of the women can sleep with the child in another bedroom. In short, there is no problem for ten people to live on these two kangs.
If the chimney outside the house is not counted, the construction speed of the two kangs in the room is still not slow. On the contrary, the small stove in the main house is progressing slowly because the structure is more complicated. The most important thing is to build a round stove. Luo Chong guided the two people to spend half a day to finish only half of it, but the speed of building the wall outside is not slow. 14 bricklayers have built it to a height of two and a half meters in two days. It is estimated that the beams can be put up in another day.
Another day passed. In the middle of the night, Luo Chong was sleeping soundly in the hut with Xiaodie in his arms. Suddenly, a soldier on night patrol called him.
"Chief, chief, wake up, there are people outside."
"Who is it? Who would come in the middle of the night? Is it the enemy?" Luo Chong gently put Xiaodie aside and asked in surprise.
"It shouldn't be. It's a team of about 200 people, men, women, and very young children. The leader is a man riding a horned deer. I think the horned deer and the saddle on it should have been taken away from our tribe."
"Oh? These are people from the You tribe. Take them to our urban area. They are sending people to us."
"Yes."
The soldier on night patrol took the order and left. He was the one who was replaced from the spring meeting this time. He didn't know the guy You Fu before.
Hearing the noise, Xiaodie rubbed her eyes and asked in confusion, "Luo Chong, what's wrong?"
"Oh, it's nothing. The You tribe sent someone to us. You go back to sleep. I'll go over and take a look."
"Oh, then be careful."
"Yeah, I know."
After Luo Chong came out of the hut, he yawned and stretched, cursing You Fu in his heart for being a piece of shit. He didn't come earlier or later, but came in the middle of the night.
However, according to the time Luo Chong requested, he should have arrived. He went to the Spring Meeting for the first time in early February, which took 12 days to go back and forth. Later, he waited for five days to fight the Fire Tribe, and then sent Shu Da to attack the Fire Tribe. He has been gone for ten days. It's almost the end of the month, and You Fu should be here.
