Chapter 40 The Bloody Wedding 11
Lu Cen hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to go up or not. Just then, the monkey landed down from somewhere: "Well done, how did you get out?"
"They ran away." Lu Cen pointed over there: "What happened?"
The monkey's expression was indescribable: "We were on our way to Master Su's house when this woman spotted us. That's how this scene you witnessed came about. She insists that Chen Ning is her lover. Isn't that ridiculous? Even if Chen Ning didn't like women, he wouldn't like a married woman. Besides, she's not even as good-looking as Chen Ning."
After Su Lie's experience, Lu Cen's mental resilience has improved considerably. What he doesn't understand is why everyone keeps saying they've met a long time ago.
His memory doesn't recall this, and Chen Ning probably doesn't remember it either. So, is there a problem with them, or with the people in the instance?
"I bet Chen Ning is about to pull out her dagger; she hates it when people get so close to her," Monkey said gleefully. Lu Cen pursed her lips: "I think maybe Chen Ning really is her lover."
The monkey waved its hands repeatedly: "Impossible!"
"I know I'm not in a position to say this now, but I really had my reasons for leaving you back then." These words drew the attention of both of them. Chen Ning's expression shifted from initial confusion to impatience. She said, "Sister, are you sick? Or have you developed presbyopia at such a young age?"
The other person didn't speak.
Chen Ning pushed her away: "I have important things to do, don't bother me."
Su Lu's face was bitter; she was used to Chen Ning's expression: "I know you've been looking for your sister, and I know where she is."
Chen Ning darted back to Su Lu's side like a gust of wind, her eyes shining like bright lights, her tone ingratiating: "Really? You know where my sister is? Where is she?"
Su Lu smiled bitterly: "As expected, you only have your sister in your heart."
Chen Ning replied, "She is very important to me, as important as my life."
That's true. If she can't clear this dungeon, she won't have any time left to survive, so it's a matter of life and death.
Su Lu's face was deathly pale, as if she had finally found the answer she had been waiting for: "Spend the day with me, and I'll take you to see her at this time tomorrow."
The monkey winked at her from the side; how could she miss such an opportunity?
Lu Cen didn't say anything. He felt extremely uneasy. This Su Lu, like Su Lie, had a deep connection with them. Although what they said was bizarre, Lu Cen had already believed most of it.
Chen Ning readily agreed, "Sure!"
The deed is done, and there's no point in saying anything more.
The four of them stood in the alley, with high and narrow walls on both sides. They were like frogs trapped in a courtyard, only able to see the sky above them when they looked up.
Lu Cen: "...Are we still going to the courtyard?"
The monkey waved its hand: "Go ahead, why wouldn't we go? Aren't we still here?"
Chen Ning followed Su Lu away, while Lu Cen and Monkey went to the other courtyard. They arrived at just the right time, and just as they found a place to hide, the small door creaked open, and several people dressed in the same clothes came out, carrying two corpses wrapped in straw mats.
After a person dies, their weight increases.
Exhausted and panting, the men finally managed to load the body onto the donkey cart.
The two followed behind them and discovered that they were taking the exact same route as the day Su Qiye's wife was buried, but when they were halfway there, the four of them changed lanes.
The woods were deep and secluded, with dense shadows.
Lu Cen felt a chill run down her spine, gripping the monkey's sleeve and trembling with fear. She kept glancing back at him. The monkey, seeing this, said, "Do you know what you're doing?"
"What?"
"Actions that invite death, especially turning around, what if something is perched on your shoulder and suddenly appears face-to-face when you turn around? Wouldn't you be scared to death? Or what if you turn around and there's nothing there, but when you turn back there's someone in front of you? What would you do then?"
Lu Cen had a vivid imagination, and a terrifying scene immediately came to mind. His face paled, and his fingers felt icy cold. The other person grabbed his collar: "Stop pulling! You'll break it if you keep pulling!"
The path leading up the mountain is too narrow for a donkey cart to traverse.
Several people carried the body, struggling to move forward.
One person complained, "Master Su is really something. He made us do this kind of work, why didn't he think to call more people?"
"The fewer people who know about this kind of thing, the better."
"Exactly. If people find out about this, it won't just sound bad, but also those men in the family, each one more difficult than the last."
"This isn't how you do work! You're treating us like cattle."
"Stop talking, we're almost there."
From afar, Lu Cen saw that it was a wasteland surrounded by mountains, with many large pits in the wasteland. The people walked to one of the large pits and threw the corpses in.
They felt relieved and returned home feeling light and carefree.
Lu Cen and the monkey arrived at the wasteland, where they saw countless pits of all sizes, with no end in sight. At the bottom of each pit were corpses in varying degrees of decay, some already ossified, their skeletons blackened by wind and sun, or just a piece of bone remaining.
At the bottom of one of the pits were two corpses that had just been thrown in. They were very fresh and well-preserved. They had thrown them in such a rough manner that the straw mats had been shaken open, revealing the original appearance of the corpses. They had pretty faces, but their clothes were rumpled and covered their bodies, showing no dignity whatsoever.
How one is in life determines how one is manipulated by others after death, just like an object.
Lu Cen was stunned for a long time before he came to his senses. The first thing he noticed was his sense of smell; the rotten smell was too strong for him to bear.
He turned around, not going too far from the monkey.
As a result, something that shouldn't have been there appeared in Yu Guangli's peripheral vision.
There were rows and rows of vats, densely packed together, nestled in the nearby woods.
Lu Cen patted the monkey, gesturing for it to look over there.
As you approach the woods, the chill intensifies, and the large vats add to the eeriness of the night.
The number of tanks was staggering, stretching as far as the eye could see.
Yang Xing climbed a big tree and looked down into the vat. Even with his extensive experience, he was still shocked. The layers upon layers of infant corpses inside looked like a hell. His face turned pale, but he still reached out a hand and scooped out a swollen corpse, whose original features were no longer recognizable.
Lu Cen was startled by him and dared not go forward.
The little monkey examined the body carefully, turning it over and over twice, then frowned and picked up another corpse. Lu Cen was already numb.
After an unknown amount of time, the monkey stretched its stiff back and said in a heavy tone, "They are all babies less than a month old, and I've noticed something particularly strange about them."
The night wind whipped against Lu Cen's back, the chill making him jump. He almost screamed, then asked with a hint of urgency, "What strange place?"
The monkey looked at him, its tone bewildered and complicated: "They are all girls."
