Chapter 49 Mental Hospital 1
"Player Lu Cen, please draw your dungeon entry for this time."
"Draw successful. Your current instance is the level 2 instance 'Mental Hospital'. You performed exceptionally well in the previous instance, so you are the first to draw your identity card."
The screen flips over, revealing the identity cards one by one.
Unsurprisingly, from one to five, the roles and names are the same: Patient No. 1, Patient No. 2... Patient No. 5.
Lu Cen's slender fingertips lingered on it. Through the previous instance, he knew that even if the characters were the same, the tasks could be vastly different.
He didn't choose the first or the last patient, but chose patient number three.
A very conservative decision.
"Ding—The copy is loading."
"Loading successful. Please complete the mission."
Lu Cen's vision blurred, and he found himself in a completely white, so much so that it felt oppressive. He was lying on a hospital bed, and the ceiling was spinning incessantly.
"The Second Hospital's psychiatric ward has a long history and has cured many mental patients, earning a widespread reputation. However, not long ago, the only road leading to the outside world was unexpectedly destroyed..."
"Due to a shortage of supplies, a murder occurred at the mental hospital one day. Everyone was terrified and tried to find the killer, but to no avail. New bodies appeared every day, and panic spread..."
"Player Lu Cen, you will pass the game if you survive for five days in this instance and fill in the name of the murderer."
"Since your character is a patient, your buff will last throughout the entire dungeon. Please cooperate with the doctor for treatment."
"Your current buff value is 100. If it drops below 60, you will lose control. If it drops below 10, this dungeon will fail, and you will lose 15 days of survival time. Please take note."
“You are eighteen years old this year. You have suffered from delusions and hunger since childhood. Half a month ago, you came here for treatment. Your attending physician is Xu Xi.”
"Single room in the mental hospital, your room number is 306."
Lu Cen's mind was about to explode.
I felt incredibly dizzy, and I gripped the edge of the blanket tightly with my fingers.
"Dr. Xu, Dr. Xu, the patient in bed 306 has had a flare-up!"
A rushing crowd surged in, all dressed in white coats with stethoscopes around their necks. The person at the head of the group was very tall, probably Dr. Xu. Lu Cen's eyes were half-open, and she couldn't tell exactly how many people there were.
A blurry image had already appeared before his eyes.
"Sedative."
The long needle quickly arrived at Lu Cen's bedside.
He didn't want to get an injection, especially not a sedative.
He grabbed at someone's clothes haphazardly, pleading, "No...I don't want a shot..."
The scene fell silent.
The nurse patted his shoulder: "Lu Cen, please trust us, the injection won't hurt at all. You'll feel much better afterward, and those people who harmed you won't dare come back..."
Having been tormented by illness for a long time, Lu Cen is very thin, with only bones left in his arms. At first, he was still able to stay conscious, and now he thinks he is still in real life. Back then, what he feared most was injections.
The fear of losing consciousness was as if it were attached to his soul.
He struggled desperately, shouting, "I don't want the shot, please, I don't want the shot..."
"Hold him down."
Four people immediately came up and held down his limbs.
A few drops of clear liquid were squeezed out of the silver needle under the light. Lu Cen panicked. The sharp pain lasted only a few seconds. He could clearly feel the cold liquid flowing into his veins.
The struggle gradually subsided, and the pupils became dilated.
"Dr. Lu, Dr. Lu, the patient in bed 305 has had a flare-up."
"The patient in bed 301 has also fallen ill."
"Bed 302, Bed 303..."
"What!"
Soon, only the attending physician and one nurse remained in room 306.
"Dr. Xu, the patient seems a bit off."
Lu Cen, who was about to close her eyes, had bulging veins in her arms, her upper body stiffened, and tears kept streaming down her face. Her mouth was slightly open, and the tip of her pale red tongue was hidden in her mouth.
"Give her another injection." Xu Xi approached and carefully observed Lu Cen's condition.
"No injections..."
Xu Xi paused, then gestured to the nurse to stop.
Lu Cen grabbed his clothes again, weakly saying, "I don't want to get a shot..."
Xu Xi lowered his eyes, his hand with smooth lines. He thought for a few seconds, then gently patted the blanket: "Don't worry, I won't give you any more injections."
Lu Cen suddenly relaxed.
A few seconds later, the dizziness subsided, and his eyes gradually focused. He saw Xu Xi's appearance clearly, and Lu Cen was a little scared at first glance; she was too cold.
He has distinct features and a high nose bridge.
Perhaps it was because he was a doctor and had seen so much life and death, but there was no warmth in his eyes.
Suddenly, Lu Cen felt a little itchy.
It started on her arms, then spread to her neck, and eventually her whole body started itching. In addition, a longing arose in Lu Cen's heart.
An indescribable longing.
He could hardly resist the urge; he longed for someone to come and hug him, or to hold him intimately in their arms.
Lu Cen trembled slightly, her cheeks flushed, as if she had been drinking.
He very offensively grabbed Xu Xi's hand and said, "Can you hug me down?"
His hands were exceptionally large. Lu Cen barely managed to bring his hands together as he looked at Xu Xi with hope.
The latter and the nurse were momentarily speechless.
Lu Cen thought he was unwilling, but the excruciating itch made his rationality completely collapse. He pulled Xu Xi down and wrapped his arms around the other's neck. Skin to skin contact, smooth and delicate, Lu Cen was extremely satisfied. He closed his eyes and buried his head in the other's shoulder.
The heat enveloped my shoulders and neck.
“Dr. Xu…” The nurse was speechless.
Xu Xi made a gesture and, in that position, hugged the person tightly.
He could still hold Lu Cen with one arm, and there was still room for him. Lu Cen smelled strongly of disinfectant, but he seemed not to notice. It wasn't until the sedative took effect and the person on his arm started breathing heavily that Xu Xi put him down.
He stared at him for a long time, then wrote in the medical record that the patient had a stress response to injections and that his hunger and thirst had worsened.
Lu Cen was awakened by a burst of crying, as if a demonic sound were piercing her ears.
He struggled to open his eyes, and a clear liquid dripped into his body. After a long while, his previous memories returned to his mind.
He habitually opened the assistant app.
"Hello player Lu Cen, 2299 is at your service."
"Please don't hesitate to ask if you need any answers."
Lu Cen replied and left with the IV drip.
A woman was sitting on a chair in the corridor, wearing a hospital gown, her hair disheveled, crying pitifully. Someone next to her couldn't help but say, "Stop fucking crying, she's not even dead yet and you're already making a scene."
"Do you think I want to cry?" The woman smoothed her hair, revealing her delicate face. "My buff is depression. I not only want to cry, I also want to commit suicide!"
Lu Cen was startled. Comparing herself to her in her mind, she felt that her buff was better, at least she was not in mortal danger.
The man remained silent for a while, then entered the ward with a look of irritation on his face.
So far, there have been five players, two of whom have made an appearance.
Two nurses in white coats ran over, helped the woman up, and one of them secretly injected her with a sedative before taking her back to her ward.
The layout on the third floor is simple, with wards one through six, one of which is empty. There is an operating room behind the nurses' station, next to which is the doctor's office. Lu Cen's office is at the very back, and the elevator is right next to the nurses' station.
"Lu Cen".
He woke up with a start and looked toward the source of the sound.
Xu Xi took a medical record and said without room for argument, "Go back to your room."
In the middle of the night, Lu Cen vaguely sensed something was wrong. It sounded like something was making a noise, little by little, continuously, very rhythmically, with a metallic sound.
Suddenly the sound grew louder.
Lu Cen realized the noise was coming from her doorway, and her nerves tensed up. In the darkness, Lu Cen lay stiffly, afraid to make a sound as the other person touched the doorknob.
He suddenly realized who the murderer was.
Could he have been targeted by the killer on the very first night?
Is he really that unlucky?
Lu Cen was terrified that this person would break down the door, so she pressed the call bell by the bedside, but no one answered after it rang for a long time. Lu Cen's heart sank to the bottom.
After the call automatically ended, Lu Cen pressed the button again.
I accepted this time.
Lu Cen quickly said, "Hey, there seems to be someone outside my door. Could you please come and take a look?"
"Nurse, can you hear me?"
"Hello?"
"I'm listening."
Lu Cen fell into the ice cellar. It was a completely unfamiliar and strange voice, and it was impossible to tell whether it was male or female.
"Your voice is so nice." The other person said, then let out a few strange laughs that sent chills down one's spine.
Lu Cen was stunned, his whole body was ice cold, and he frantically hung up the call.
The noise at the door started again.
The other person was very patient and not impatient. With a click, the door opened, and Lu Cen screamed, sitting on the edge of the bed, trembling and clutching the blanket. Some of the light from the corridor shone in, and the person was wearing a black hood and holding a baseball bat of unknown weight.
"You're so beautiful." The other person sighed, "Your expression before you died must have been beautiful. You will be my most perfect work of art."
Lu Cen pulled the blanket over her head tightly. What should she do? What should she do? What should she do...?
The footsteps approached like death itself. In terror, Lu Cen jumped out of bed, pulled the blanket over his head, and ran quickly toward the door.
Just as I reached the door, a large hand grabbed my hair tightly.
With her scalp nearly torn apart, Lu Cen screamed and staggered a few steps before being pulled back to the ward. The door closed with a slight sound.
He made such a big fuss here, but the other wards chose to stand by and watch. He was like a fish in someone else's hands; whether he lived or died was just a matter of his mind.
Lu Cen was pinned to the ground, the baseball bat pressed against his face.
"Don't be afraid, it won't hurt at all."
Lu Cen's face showed terror as he watched the baseball bat slowly press against his throat. His voice was barely audible: "No...please..."
The hooded man gripped the baseball bat, his fingertips touching the back of the other man's hand.
"So beautiful." The other person seemed not to hear him and murmured in admiration.
His eyes gradually turned crazed, and he tightened his grip.
Compared to his opponent, Lu Cen's resistance was like an ant trying to shake an elephant. His throat felt as if it had been pierced. Just before he reached his limit, all the pressure suddenly eased, and he lay on the ground coughing hysterically.
